Good evening Sir.I'm right with you on small/independent distillery whisky.I recently bought a bottle of 15 year old Springbank. The first I've tried from this distillery. What a great dram, one of the best I've ever had but with a healthy price tag ( I live in Germany) I'm a big Glenfarclas fan again because they are a family run operation.Their prices though are very reasonable.
Your comments on the current trade tariff drama is appreciated. A lot of people are soiling their trousers and freaking out. Wiser and calmer heads are taking a more "wait and see" approach.
Erik, Ralfy is right, click bait Trump headlines re trade tariffs are sensationalist news. Nothing new here, countries negotiate them all the time, but of course scare tactic news get more traction these days. I wouldn't panic.
I bought a £450 bottle of "Auld Boaby" on Ebay recently. The advert said it would only appeal to absolute "dobbers", which I believe is the correct term for a whisky specialist. I liked the traditional pattern on the box, which consisted of a man playing bagpipes in a green and white hooped football shirt : "Ha-way, ya dobber, ya !" is emblazoned on the label. On opening the whisky, I was amazed by its taste. It was advertised as "uniquely sweet and refreshing" and was extremely similar to cold tea, so I am pleased with the uniquness. However, I drank two large glasses and could feel no alcoholic effect whatsoever. I especially liked the individual gift card, which read " Ya great dobber, ya!!' and included a photograph of the distiller, laughing wildly at the camera, waving £450 and raising his cup of tea to me in friendship. Two of his friends were also in the photograph, both smiling widely and toasting my good health with a cup of tea. I am not sure if I will buy any more "Auld Boaby", as nobody else seems to have heard of it, but will put it down to experience on my journey to becoming a great wallopping dobber.

The precise of you saying exactly the situation what it is, is extraordinary.!!! ..., you are always clear and concise on the subject.... without taking part you all ways say the truth... cheers to that.!
Hey Ralfy, congratulations on your anniversary you magnificent whisky master-ed ! In celebration, appreciation and giving to charity it’s a pleasure to order a North Star.
You talked about tariffs etc in other countries. On line prices in New Zealand converted to GBP all at the same whisky/whiskey specialist shop Tamdhu 15 yr old (same as you reviewed) GBP = 98 per 700ml Glnfdch 15 yr old (Solera) =41per 700ml Glnfdch 15yr old( Distillers edition - Non chill filtered, and at 51%ABV) =72 per 1000ml I can't find your reviewed version of Glnfdch though. Just remember we are an bunch of islands a very long way from anywhere so every bottle would be air freighted in direct from Scotland (half way around he world)
I really like Bunnahabhain Stiuireadair, at 46.3% none chill filtered, and no added coloring, it's a fine whisky, granted there's no age statement but the taste is outstanding!!, So smooth, and the flavour is very nice, I can sip it straight, but adding a hint of water, and it's even better, but just a wee bit. I would recommend trying this whisky, you won't be disappointed.
Thank You, Ralphy, You made my weekend! Hope You will visit one day Moravia (historical eastern part of Czech republic) and taste some of our spirits (mostly fruit brandys) and enjoy them. Enjoy best months of the year!!! Jiří Zajíc
Spot on in regards to the tariffs and culture shock. I've lived abroad most of my life and whenever I go back home (USA) it always seems a bit strange.
@@thewhiskybothy the Juha is right, but you did well sir! It´s very hard to learn the proper pronunciation for non-native speaker so even if you tried to do the "zhee" thing, it would sound totaly wierd, so sticking just to Jiri is so much pleasing to hear..
Notice the fill-level of the Glenfiddich 15 hasn't gone down much Ralfy ;-) I get what you're saying about the difference in price of these malts but I don't see why Tamdhu 15 needs to be £10-20 more than some other great 15YO malts from small craft distilleries. Me thinks they are taking the piss slightly with £80.
I watched an interview with a glengoyne rep and he stated that a european oak sherry cask takes 6 years to make and season and costs around 1500 pounds.
Question. Can you tell me which review you used an alcohol refractometer on please? Time moves swiftly and now I'm unsure which one it was. I bought (on e-bay) one from China. $25.98nz delivered! Very nice instrument, can be calibrated (instructions - easy to follow enclosed) measures to 80% abv. Which review ?
Ralfy! May I introduce you to a scotch whiskey style spirit made in America that most Americans don’t realize is as such? See if you can locate a whiskey called Stranahan’s. Very good, but not as aged as you may be used to!
It will drive up the cost of single malt scotch in the US. Tariffs are sometime needed but there is no strategic rationale behind Trump's tarriffs. The EU is one big protectionist trading bloc but they are a walk in the park compared to what China gets away with. Plus, we need our European partners to help tame China's extreme mercantilist tendencies.
Naked grouse doesn't have to be smooth to be good but a damn fine whisky people are idiots. It is not a beginner whisky black label is shit because its too smooth not bold flavour and watery
Youre a legend Ralfy, well balanced and wise legend. You always seem to uplift me, even when things dont seem so great. Sincere thumbs up
. . . happy to share the journey !

I bought a few extra bottles of Scotch this month but I did not go and panic and buy 10 or 20 bottles of Scotch.

IMy recommendation for you to review would be the Balconies French Oak and Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Batch B5-19. Both Top American Whisky's!
I heard "Maltytasking" tell me I'm wrong :-) Love your channel Ralfy!
Jiři -> yirzhee (assuming it's a Czech name for George).
. . . thanks for the info !

. . . well spotted !
Ralfy can you rant about something please? I really enjoy the honesty
RALFY YOURE THE GOAT!
Ralfy, interested in your thoughts on the new Arran Sherry Cask CS when you get to it. Thanks for everything!
. . . I will look out for it !
I watched an interview with a glengoyne rep and he stated that a european oak sherry cask takes 6 years to make and season and costs around 1500 pounds.
Does the Tamdhu match the Glengoyne 18, 21 or even the Tea Pot Dram?
. . . good, but different.
Ralfy, we know you like your spirits but how do you feel about beer or wine?
Personally they lack a 'kick' for me, in terms of flavour intensity.
What single malt has received the highest score?

Ralfy, a review of the newly released Canadian Club 42YO Chronicles Issue No. 2 would be greatly appreciated!
. . . hard to find where I am !
Bourbons ! yes......... please.
We just checked a customer's review of Tamdhu 12 on an online seller's website. 'Smooth' was the very first word used by the customer. Lol!
Ralfy! May I introduce you to a scotch whiskey style spirit made in America that most Americans don’t realize is as such? See if you can locate a whiskey called Stranahan’s. Very good, but not as aged as you may be used to!
. . . review in the archives !
Four Roses Single Barrel is lovely.

Tamdhu here in Western Australia, $80+ Aud and can only find 12 year old
Rally, please try out some more Lidl whiskies.
They are not worth the time.
ralfy, how about wild turkey rare breed review?
. . . possibly in the future !
Will that tariff still apply if brexit happens ? For Irish whiskey sure, but for scottish, maybe not.
. . . possibly !

Love the political comment on the side. It completes you.
