Love from Ontario, Canada! What a show by the buffalo herd! Lives up to its reputation! Fiercely loyal to their injured comrade till the comrade decides that it is enough of his time on earth. The fallen buffalo was perhaps their herd leader of the yore. Must have seen its prime. Must have warded off many enemies to protect its charges throughout its life. We have not seen a buffalo herd to keep their defenses up for such a long duration. Hats off to the buffalo. Go Buffalo Bills. The next Super Bowl is yours.
everybody relax a bit - those guys were not a 'film crew', but some tourists that got lucky to witness an encounter between lions and buffalos. they zoomed as much as they could, and they can't move closer, because for protection of the animals they are not allowed to leave the track, which is a very good thing. so maybe simply be happy that those guys did film it, and did bother to share
I must say you did a very good job in capturing this. Much better than many profesional vids I have seen. The panaromic view makes it a delight to watch.
Great vid dude (even if slightly ruined by the 4x4 'train'). Not often you get to see a hunt from start to finish in one shot. Good work. So amazing to see the tactics used by both sides and the rewards and losses from a such hard work.
They are not going for the tail first, they are going for damaging the spine to immobilize. The woman in the video asked why they went for the tail. Also, you can't go for the head first due to the horns.
I was there too!!! Wasn't that incredible? That poor buffalo. He had one loyal friend who kept trying to help. Obviously there were many tourists there that day but I was in one of the vehicles a lioness walked right by. Three days prior to this I had witnessed a cheetah track and kill a wildebeest. So I was super lucky on that safari :). It's so cool to see this video again.

It's good, but very long, and unfortunately a little too far to see anything properly. But the interaction of the herd was brilliant, till in the end, hungry, thirsty and needing to cool down, they had to sacrifice one of their number. It was obvious he wasn't up to running away with the others. Just maybe the bull pushing him over, on that final charge, wasn't as much an accident, but as an act of martyrdom. Lol Thanks!!
Bevanna kittykattqueen ah.. spoiler alert**** haha - i was just scanning thru the comments as it is a tad boring at the beginning... it's still awesome to see how the herd acts as well as the lions - wish I could be there myself to see stuff like this. :)
Amazingly well done video. Again, I noticed the lions are using the safari vehicles. One for shade and two as protection from the buffalo. One nice thing about this video is showing how well organized the lions are. Wouldn't it be awesome if someone figured out how to train lions to round up cattle. Of course, just like the buffalo did in the end, you would have to sacrifice at least one of the cattle.
It's so mind boggling to watch the lack of common sense by buffalos when confronted by lions. All they need to do for survival is move in units, stick together, and never separate from the unit. The only thing the lions can do or try to do against a buffalo unit or herd is trick individual buffalos to seperate from the group.
Lions are not jackals they are just trying to survive, Unlike humans, we’re just there to watch and enjoy. The panoramic view was great, however with all those cameras, didn’t anybody have a zoom lens to zoom in to the action after the buffalo went down?

Those stupid tour guides should leave large gaps in between every four or five vehicles so the lions and buffalo can get through. There are entirely too many vehicles interfering with the animals. 28:56 11 lions. The large buffalo they got will feed them for a while.
It depends on where you go and what you want to do. A ~30 day trip with airfare from the US and back with spending money would run roughly $8,000. You can do it for a bit less if you are frugal, or a huge amount more. I recommend checking out GAdventures. That is who we did out trip through, and it turned out great.
Very impressive. My wife, daughter and grand-daughter were there two summers ago and have a similar video on RUclips...you should easily go past her 82,000 hits. Her video had a smaller group of lions and a smaller group of water buffalo. The lions were trying to cut out a young water buffalo. Seems like the lions always win.
Buffalos did very well this time. His partner was injured in his hind leg and they understood (after several attempts) that there was nothing else to do. 12:26 The camera missed the first attack.
They went away then came back. His partner sniffed that injured leg and new what was going on. The injured bull could never make it to water so he was done lions or no lions. Unless the herd can carry water back for him lol.
The cars keep on the roads, no off-roading, and the country needs the income from tourism. It spoils it alright but it helps pay the rent and the animals are used to it, the Crater is well-populated with wildlife and is more accessible than many other conservation areas.
A win-win. The lions live another day, the buffalo suffered minor casualties & Tanzania gets to keep a diverse ecosystem (without which there'd be less tourism, less $$ for imports, and so the locals would have to cull all the local buffalo anyways). Of course the lions get hated on, because they're at the top of the food chain. But just look how brave they are, taking on a much larger sized herd of much larger sized animals.
Awesome to see it go from just hanging out in a chess match and then the end. P.S. I know you can’t get off the road all the other trucks are on and your not set up like nat geo out there so I won’t make silly comments about distance and quality etc etc. lol!
how many tourist can you fit in a small area?...i donnt even want to know how much they paid for that .... someone please tell m,e can you film with your I phone?
AMAZING trip to Africa! You were so fortunate to have been able to witness this perfect cycle of life! The people criticizing you and this video must be vegetarians or vegans, because those of us who eat meat understand the lions. LoL! There are only about 25,000 lions left in the wild and hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of buffalo. They NEED the lions to eliminate some, just to make sure they have enough to eat.
@@garythegman9680 lions are the only cat that is social..ie lions live in a familiar unit..all blood related except for the adult male or males..the adult male will father cubs and will rule the pride usually from 5yrs of age to 10yrs would be a good run and a day would come that a younger stronger adult male would fight and win and then the pride is his...all of the lionesses can stay and any males would be chased off or if cubs they are killed to ensure the adult males bloodline...all male lions after a certain age are naturally territorial..possessive.when a prides young male cub starts to reach sub adulthood status he is exiled from the pride..which helps to keep a clean bloodline and also he is competition to his father for takeover...Lions are super interesting awesome animals
