Sorry have another question. I don't like the yarn I chose so will breakdown and order the Paintbox acrylic. Wool doesn't do well in Florida LOL, but could you please tell me what color you are using in the video? Thanks
I used color #817 in the Cascade Yarns 220 Aran Superwash. Since you are in Florida, I do have a couple of other (mid-range) options to consider: www.berroco.com/yarns/vintage (be sure to get the Aran/worsted weight, and not the DK or bulky) which is an acrylic/wool blend. They also make a cotton/rayon you may wish to consider: www.berroco.com/yarns/berroco-modern-cotton. This will be slightly heavier and may stretch out a bit more, but perhaps more suitable for the Florida climate?
Hi Bonnie. Using different wool affects my gauge lengthwise. If I follow the number of rows suggested for the back, my sweater measurements would be 21.5 inches, instead of 20.5 inches (measuring from the bottom of the ribbing to the top. I think instead of meeting the row requirement I should meet the measurement requirement instead. Thoughts? Will wait for your response before moving forward. Thanks
Bonnie, thank you so much for your videos , they are so helpful. I purchased your book Celtic Cable Crochet , I'm working on Orlaith Robe Sweater. The written pattern says for cables and wheat cable to do fpdc and bpdc, but in your , say fptr and bptr, which is correct? Thank you so much for all your videos , and may God bless. Joyce Boenne.
Dear bonnie im making this for my teeenage girl. Can i modify the pattern to make the the sleeve straight without a cap and the outer side of the cardi straight also. I mean in your opinion will this give a good result
This is GORGEOUS!!! 🤗 It looks much more difficult than it really is. I credit that to your great ability to talk us through it. I will definitely try this pattern once I get some appropriate yarn. 🧶👍🏼
I have the book and some Cascade 220 and thought this pattern would be perfect for they yarn, I love cables so much! I got everything ready to start and managed to confuse myself a little; I wonder if you could clarify something please: the video has the cables worked (as usual) with front post treble stitches but the written pattern states they should be front post double crochets. There is no correction for this in the errata so I was just wondering why there is a difference and if you recommend working these with the trebles as per the video or with doubles as per the written pattern?
You can use either fptr or fpdc. I mistakenly defaulted to the fptr when recording these videos (which were recorded many years after the writing of these patterns). I would recommend sticking to the fpdc if you haven't already started.
@@BonnieBayCrochet Thanks so much for your response: I bet that is easily done with the passage of time and the amount of cables you work! I'll give it a go with dc and see how I like it.
@@BonnieBayCrochet No, thank *you* for all the lovely patterns! Its also great having the video tutorials in addition to the paid for patterns when I need to check I'm doing something correctly as intended, it's a fabulous resource.
It can actually be done either way Lynn, and I prefer to use fptr when crossing the cables. Many edits were made by the publisher that I didn't like, which is one reason why I made these videos. I would encourage you to follow the videos where they differ from the book. Also, be sure to download a copy of the errata listing for this pattern available here: bonniebaycrochet.squarespace.com/blog/2016/11/16/errata-for-celtic-cable-crochet.html
Oh just a quick question in your book you call for front post double on Rows 10 and 11, put on the video you’re showing front treble Thank you I don’t wanna go any further to know which is right thank you so much
Yes, I automatically defaulted to fptr (pattern was written several years ago). Either will work for this design (and each sweater fits fine regardless of which you choose), but if I could redo these videos I would have stuck with fpdc. Sorry for any confusion.
I purchased your book to make this beautiful sweater, I am doing the 3x size and it looks to me to be on the smaller side. If I increase the size when starting out by 10 more chains. Would that effect the pattern.
Excellent question Mohamed. You may need to check with Amazon or your book dealers on-line. I know you can get the digital version from Amazon in the US. I also could arrange to send you one from my Etsy store, but the postage may cost much more than the actual book. If you want to do this, please contact me at bonniebay@me.com and I can look into this for you. My Etsy store will not do this automatically.
MOHAMED HAJJAJ I don’t usually ship outside the US due to the high price of international postage. This is available from Amazon worldwide where Amazon does business. Is this in your area?
Dear bonnie im working on the back section size small. After 3 decrease rows the n. Of stitches on each side is 5. Is that ok. I mean shouldnt they be an even n
Started this today and am loving it.I was wondering if you had links for buttons and if you would share them with us? I noticed on this pattern and patterns in your books you have big gorgeous buttons on these, but I have searched far and wide for some beautiful buttons and haven't found any satisfactory yet.
It can Singh, but you will need to add extra stitches and/or follow the sizing you need very carefully. You will most likely yield a smaller gauge when using lighter yarn.
Here are the yarn requirements: Yarn for the Orlaith Robe Sweater: Cascade 220 Superwash Aran (100% superwash merino wool; 150 yd [137.5 m]/ 100 g): 14 [15, 16, 16, 17, 18, 19] hanks, (for sizes XS [S, M, L, XL, 2X, 3X]. Yardage = 2100 [2250, 2400, 2400, 2550, 2700, 2850] I usually have this information in the video description.
Hi. Love your videos. In the book it says bpdc/fpdc but in the video you say treble crochet. Will it matter other than Treble crochet is more comfortable?
Bonnie, love your work and have made several of your patterns from your books. So book say cable are fp double cables, your video is showing us fp treble cables. Which should it be?
Great question! Either will work, but I would use fpdc if I could redo these videos. I automatically defaulted to using fort when recording. Sorry for the confusion!

Hi Bonnie, just got my yarn I'm using the paintbox yarn and I must say I fell in love with this yarn. Still waiting on my book, but since I'm making the small size for granddaughter who's away at college I'm just following along with you. This my first time making a sweater of any kind, thanks for making this so easy. Blessings 💖
I love this pattern but I'm frustrated by the errors in the book. Where is the Errata listed? I can't find it. Can someone please put the link in the comments section so I can use the errata pattern?
I understand. I was frustrated beyond words (as the author) by the editing myself. I apologize for any inconvenience, which is why I spent many hours creating these videos. Here is the errata listing: (also listed in video description) www.bonniebaycrochet.com/blog/2016/11/16/errata-for-celtic-cable-crochet.html
Thank you for posting them. I just want to confirm that the 4 post cable is a FPTC rather than a FPDC? I read the errata and wanted to double-check. On the left panel R10, it says to skip the first stitch. I'm not sure what you mean by that. If I skip the first stitch each time I repeat R10, won't that be a decrease each time I repeat? Am I misreading the directions? Thanks again for your help! @@BonnieBayCrochet
When filming this (almost 9 years after the book was published) I defaulted to using fptrs instead of fpdcs as written in the pattern. Both will work, but I wish I had used fpdcs as written. The "Skip the first st" does maintain the stitch count if you work in the turning ch.
Either one will work, although fptr will yield slightly longer fabric. When writing this pattern almost 10 years ago I used fpdc and it worked very well. Sorry for any confusion here Patty!
@@BonnieBayCrochet thank you! No confusion at all, I know that changes get made and just wanted to see what you recommended! Thanks for another amazing tutorial! I am in it!!
It really doesn't, but when I recorded these videos I so wish I had worked fpdc as written in the pattern Carolyn. Both do work. This is a 10+ year old pattern, and over that time I defaulted to fptr instead of fpdc.
@@BonnieBayCrochet Thanks! I tried the fptc and it is looking good so far. Thanks for responding so quickly! I'm making it in light amethyst Gaelic aran superwash wool. I can't wait to see how it turns out!
Great question Patricia. Either will work. I unknowingly defaulted to using fptr in the videos but wished I had used fpdc as in the book. Again, either will work.
An addition should be made to the errata. The pattern published in the book says that the four post and wheat cable stitch pattern should be done in double crochet, but in this video, these stitches are worked in treble crochet.
Sorry for any confusion Gail. You can actually use either fpdc or fptr for these cables. Of course the fptr will yield a slightly longer fabric. I unknowingly defaulted to fptr finding it easier and more natural.
I'm not sure Ghada, but you can follow the dimensions from the errata listing (link in the video description below) to see if this will work to achieve the size you wish to make.

This will be slightly heavier and may stretch out a bit more, but perhaps more suitable for the Florida climate?
Thank you
Thanks
You should be fine to stop at shorter rows Carrie.
Beautiful 👍💖
Es precioso 😍. Felicidades por tan excelente trabajo 👏👏. Muchas gracias por compartir.
Está muy hermoso!❤ Felicitaciones!!!😊
Dear bonnie im making this for my teeenage girl. Can i modify the pattern to make the the sleeve straight without a cap and the outer side of the cardi straight also. I mean in your opinion will this give a good result
Not sure how to advise on this Ghada. Would be a design change. Do feel free to give it a try though!
This is GORGEOUS!!! 🤗 It looks much more difficult than it really is. I credit that to your great ability to talk us through it. I will definitely try this pattern once I get some appropriate yarn. 🧶👍🏼
Bonnie have got link please so i can download it
I have the book and some Cascade 220 and thought this pattern would be perfect for they yarn, I love cables so much!
@@celebuial Thanks for your understanding!
@@BonnieBayCrochet No, thank *you* for all the lovely patterns! Its also great having the video tutorials in addition to the paid for patterns when I need to check I'm doing something correctly as intended, it's a fabulous resource.
Bonnie, sorry but the pattern book I have said row 10 is fpdc but you are doing fptr. Do we do fptr?
It can actually be done either way Lynn, and I prefer to use fptr when crossing the cables. Many edits were made by the publisher that I didn't like, which is one reason why I made these videos. I would encourage you to follow the videos where they differ from the book. Also, be sure to download a copy of the errata listing for this pattern available here: bonniebaycrochet.squarespace.com/blog/2016/11/16/errata-for-celtic-cable-crochet.html
Thank you for the errata
Please iam from egypt can I get ur book how much does it cost
Excellent question Mohamed. You may need to check with Amazon or your book dealers on-line. I know you can get the digital version from Amazon in the US. I also could arrange to send you one from my Etsy store, but the postage may cost much more than the actual book. If you want to do this, please contact me at bonniebay@me.com and I can look into this for you. My Etsy store will not do this automatically.
Ok how much does it cost if I got it from ur store
MOHAMED HAJJAJ are you in the US?
No iam from egypt
Hi Bonnie , can this project be made with 100% acrylic light 3 yarn.
It can Singh, but you will need to add extra stitches and/or follow the sizing you need very carefully. You will most likely yield a smaller gauge when using lighter yarn.
Is there a link for the left hand version?
I sure do Patsy! ruclips.net/video/IYd2uLbfOHw/видео.html. You can always find this on my homepage.
BonnieBayCrochet thanks so much!
Can I use a smaller button
Very good. Thanks& bless u
Can u do us non sewing cardigan ( like one peace project)?
Please can you tell me, how much wool you spent on that sweater?
Here are the yarn requirements: Yarn for the Orlaith Robe Sweater: Cascade 220 Superwash Aran (100% superwash merino wool; 150 yd [137.5 m]/ 100 g): 14 [15, 16, 16, 17, 18, 19] hanks, (for sizes XS [S, M, L, XL, 2X, 3X]. Yardage = 2100 [2250, 2400, 2400, 2550, 2700, 2850] I usually have this information in the video description.
@@BonnieBayCrochet okay, thank you so much.
Hi. Love your videos. In the book it says bpdc/fpdc but in the video you say treble crochet. Will it matter other than Treble crochet is more comfortable?
The pattern says fpdc but you are doing trebles??? in row 10
Oops! I think she said she mis-spoke. I'm deaf so I have the captions on.
It is treble crochets.
Judy K part of my mission with the videos is to correct the book. Use trebles when crossing the cables only.
Bonnie, love your work and have made several of your patterns from your books. So book say cable are fp double cables, your video is showing us fp treble cables. Which should it be?
Bonnie, no need to respond, I see your reply to others with the same question. Guess I’ll have a bit of fun deciding….
Great question! Either will work, but I would use fpdc if I could redo these videos. I automatically defaulted to using fort when recording. Sorry for the confusion!
Hi Bonnie, new to your channel and came across this cardigan I just have to make. What is the ply of the yarn, please let me know
This is a worsted/Aran weight yarn.
Hi bonnie, beautiful cardigan I'm doing this on 95% acrylic 5%metallic it says use a 5mm/5.5mm with this cardigan what hook would u go for I'm doing size small. thankyou for a beautiful tutorial :)
Hi Bonnie 👋 , I was wondering do you know what size the girl in the photo is wearing? I was thinking it looks a little big on her so I was thinking the size she's wearing might just fit me perfectly I'm a size large so I didn't know what size I should make .
Que hermoso cardigan sueter...pero me gustaria en español 😥 le pongo los subtítulos y me aparecen las letras grandes en pantalla y no me deja ver el tejido
So sorry about that Maria! Maybe you can rerun the sections where you need to see the fabric with the closed captions off.
Hi I am enjoying your work . Now I am working on this but I am facing a problem with the left panel. I don't think its identical. Should we reverse it? thanks for the wonderful work and videos
Definitely add another row if needed to make these the same Nina.
@@BonnieBayCrochet thank you I let you know when it's done
I want to make size m. Can you send me the pattern please
Blessings 💖
My pleasure LadyRose! I love this yarn too.
@@BonnieBayCrochet Thank you for your reply. I prefer the FPTC as it is easier to work in the larger stitches. Thanks again!
Can I ask you a question can I use a different yarn and do I really need to buy the book or can I make this just with your video
Video uses fptr for cabling . Whereas book instructions uses fpdc. Which should I go by?
Either one will work, although fptr will yield slightly longer fabric. When writing this pattern almost 10 years ago I used fpdc and it worked very well. Sorry for any confusion here Patty!
@@BonnieBayCrochet thank you! No confusion at all, I know that changes get made and just wanted to see what you recommended! Thanks for another amazing tutorial! I am in it!!
When starting the cable rows for the back panel, your book says fpdc but this video says fptc. Does it matter which I do?
It really doesn't, but when I recorded these videos I so wish I had worked fpdc as written in the pattern Carolyn. Both do work. This is a 10+ year old pattern, and over that time I defaulted to fptr instead of fpdc.
@@BonnieBayCrochet Thanks! I tried the fptc and it is looking good so far. Thanks for responding so quickly! I'm making it in light amethyst Gaelic aran superwash wool. I can't wait to see how it turns out!
in the book it says front post double crochet on the video you say fptr is is correct the book or the video patricia
Hi Bonnie I'm in south Africa how can I get the book please
Do you have amazon.com there? I would try there first.
Dear bonnie. There is no shipping to where i live. I need to make the xs size. If i follow your size using a size 4 hook will that work out
I'm not sure Ghada, but you can follow the dimensions from the errata listing (link in the video description below) to see if this will work to achieve the size you wish to make.
