That's a great point. Lett essentially said if you have any opinion, you're wrong - just suck it up and follow the GB. All part of the BITE model. JWs boast a lot about "unity", but here's Lett talking about division among "the christian congregation" over something as silly as facial hair? He's directly addressing disunity, right?
If they change their stance on blood, it would possibly cause an uproar and maybe lawsuits. So many people lives have been lost and families broken because of listening to that GB. Glad I walked away.

True fact. Rutherford and Knorr hated beards so much they even had Jesus clean shaven for a number of years in the publications. The real reason Rutherford changed his view on having facial hair was because of Russell. Rutherford had to purge the Society of most things related to Russell, especially considering that everyone still looked to Russell as the faithful slave. When Rutherford published that the faithful slave was a class of people (the 144,000) in the August Watchtower of 1927, he systematically expunged Russell, his writings, the cross and Christmas. Also, Rutherford had a more CORPORATE-MINDSET, than a spiritual one. The majority of the mandates/rules/regulations of the watchtower is based on his ideology (mainly personal and not scripturally based).

How many times were we told by the elders at the KH and/or the WT, that if something did not make any sense to us, not to question it because all we had to do was to obey? Yes, we were told to blindly obey because that’s what Jehovah wanted. The KH song, “Listen, Obey and be Blessed, is nothing more than a subliminal message; obey and you will have many blessings; refuse to obey and God will abandon you to your own fate. It seems like the WT organization wants to keep its members in a state of fear 😨.

One of them, an elderly “sister”, a hard-core JW, always says: “ Our job is to obey, obey and keep busy with what the GB tells us to do. We have to support them because only then we’ll be part of the sheep, not the goats, and be spared when Armageddon comes. Only by obeying can we make it into Paradise”. There it is, the Fear Factor 🙄.

It occurs to me that ANYONE fearful of the state of death should undergo general anesthesia (which is as close to being dead whilst still alive), I’ve undergone that TWICE, and have retained absolutely NO memory of them at all…

I grew a beard because I didn't want to be doing anything for the Jehovah witnesses. It got me off the hook. I already wasn't commenting at their meetings. The beard just made them not want to ask me to do anything for them. I was rebellious in their eyes and I guess that I was.
I can remember African American elders when sent out to give talks in more rural areas would often be asked to shave their mustache before giving the talk. Not beard, mustache, this was in Michigan but I'm sure it has happened other places. It was always about personal feelings never scriptural! I like how they use the scripture "be no part of the world" but also now say, politicians and businessmen wear beards so it's okay now????

Hey Jay their biggest gaslighting to this day was still the 1975 debacle, when they in 2015 I believe they had a video about how some of the friends ran ahead the organization- “ some had mistakenly thought 1975 would be the end” . When I saw that I literally got I’ll to the point of 🤢🤮. That one really messed up lives I.e people forsaking themselves in opportunities. 🤨
JW organization is a place where such elementary things as whether any man should wear a beard or not depends on the current leaders whimsical liking or disliking of their predecessors.

Now that I am done singing. I have an explanation for this reversal on beards. It goes something like this. God created man to grow facial hair. For millenniums, it was right to grow facial hair without his approval. In essence, it was God's fault for making man in his image. However, one man in Watchtowerland claimed it made people look like Santa Clause. And, we know if we rearrange the letters of the word, "Santa," we get the word "Satan." Satan is God's enemy. Therefore, we should not grow beards like Satan. Now, that Santa is no longer popular, we can grow our facial hair.

I'm only 7 mins in--you're asking your pyramid of beard policy questions--and I'm trying to remember a vid I watched recently that laid out the fascinating history of the No Beard policy. It's juicy! When Rutherford pulled his leadership coup in the 30s (and the Russellites broke off into the still-existing Bible Students group), Rutherford declared the new policy...because he wanted to be as far removed from Russell's legacy--and famous beard--as possible. Of course once the GB was created they pretzel-twisted their dogma to make it seem "biblical"..

I am a ex Presbyterian minister, 22 years a minister and 33 years a Xian. And this, in principle, is why I reject every religion.
Yes Jay, they are the authority over your salvation or death by pretending to be Jehovah’s chief representative avatar in the form of Jesus Christ himself, remember “when you listen and obey the Governing Body you’re listening to Jesus Christ himself” so that no one will question them when they command you and will be totally obedient to them, and if you disagree with them, it becomes a disagreement against Jehovah God himself, thus using fear, intimidation, obligation, and guilt, remember what the Governing Body said, “you need to listen, follow and be obedient to what the Governing Body says no matter how unreasonable or illogical it seems from a human standpoint“. “you need to listen, obey and be blessed“. These are the words from one of their many songs of psychological conditioning.
Once I read "Crisis of Conscience" by ex governing body member Ray Franz; I became fully awake to what this organization has been doing all of my 65 years on this planet. It's all about the human opinions of a group of old men in New York Bethel; JW HQ. Ray emphatically drove home the point that "rarely was the Bible ever used in discussions about policy"!!
And then in recent years, when I located excerpts from Watchtower articles in which they stated that "the governing body is neither inspired, nor infallible. They can err in doctrine and organizational direction." That's when I realized that no matter what rules or policies they produce, the ultimate criteria for following them is this: IS THIS WHAT THE BIBLE CLEARLY TEACHES? If not, then go stuff a sock in it, dipweeds! "We must obey God as ruler, rather than men."......."For one is your leader, the Christ". (Acts 5: 29,......Matthew 23: 10)
Way back in 2018 we had a CO that raised holy he'll about beards during his public talk. I as the cobe was at fault for his rant! I had been very sick fighting cancer for several years and the effects of treatment, during the midweek FS meeting I was to tired to shave that morning and it set him off. He stated during his talk Sunday " In My circuit No one will ever have beards!" . So I wrote a 3 page letter to the branch with all the scriptural reasons there is nothing wrong with beards, I included several examples of medical reasons to have beards, examples of things they claim are improper for sisters in the publications but they do anyway without much said, and examples in the scriptures that in principle allow for them without issue( 1cor 7) and hot that equally applies to beards. To avoid trouble for myself I mailed it unsigned and from a post office 100 miles from my home(I traveled of my work). So it probably winded up in the round file cabinet 😅😊.
I recently went to the Kingdom Hall ,they're using phones now no Bible's 😮 oh no the world is changing😅

Rutherford undoubtedly made many unscriptural errors/mistakes by making them part of policy to follow in the Organisation. However, the JW's and unbaptised students were/are looking for spiritual guidance and teaching from God's holy Words in the Bible, so within the Organisation both policies and scripture has to be adhered to in order to be a member. The brothers & sisters are genuinely seeking God and believe Jesus is their redeemer, as all Christians should believe.
The mainstream Church also have some policies, like no smoking & alcohol etc. Though grooming and attire are more relaxed.

Might help to keep in mind that Watchtower has had to contend, in Court, with the argument that rank and file Witnesses are Watchtower’s ‘agents’ and therefore Watchtower is legally responsible for criminal acts by said agents. I believe this has come into play with CSA cases.
They of course argue that this is not the case and therefore the Corporation is not to blame.
New policies regarding issues such as turning in time and prohibitions against beards may well be the result of these court challenges. The less they appear to have control the better for Watchtower when it comes to liability.

Yes the term used was Pikuach Nefesh. Life overruled all religious dogma, where life is deemed sacred, and if it meant saving a life on the Sabbath, so be it.
So its a good positive move if the current GB are improving on some policy changes that are not unscriptural. Why should we disagree with beards anyways, if well kept and tidy. Rather than keep a policy that is unscriptural, no matter how long its been in force, gladly turn it around and let it be personal choice.

I try to be respectful, because I enjoyed positive affects through my association with JWs. Then again, there are lingering issues I suffer from to this day because I was discouraged from pursuing my education. Sometimes I get mad enough to want to sue for the grief....but would it be worth the trouble?
