After 2 visits to India this year 2016 and many endless efforts by TEAM Marco Russ and their promotion of project works globally over the past 10 years, we have achieved that various new farm project developments take place now in India, Africa and other countries as part of large scale developments to combat drought and desertification to achieve food and water security, reforestation program. One highlight of this year was the invitation and official announcement to cooperate with investors, individual farmers, NGO’ s with the support of different Indian government members, TV Channel OK INDIA and related interview by Mr. Sanjay Mudgel, Vice President of OK India started the initiative Green Mission 2017-2032 in India. According to Allan Savory's TED talk, the cause of desertification is not over grazing but the destruction of the natural grazing processes that wild animals would naturally take. Modern grazing processes have small herds just eating up vegetation before moving on. Natural grazing has massive herds trampling, urinating and defecating on vegetation before moving on. The natural system creates an abundance of fertilizer and compost. This retains water and allows vegetation to grow to degrees that are impossible in ecologies that either follow modern grazing or have no grazing.
Grazing is important, it help flatten old grass and prepare the soil for new grasses. The herder just need to graze the lands in a systemically manner. By reviving the desertified land which account 2/3 of the surface will bring the earth carbon level back to pre-industrial level.
The solution to desertification is water management of world scale, not talk, especially from politicians. If they are the solution, desertification should be problem solved already.
planting trees is not the solution, real solutions to the problem can be found by Allen Savory Holistic Management. It may take more than a 3min epic movie but its worth spending some time researching and getting the head around.
