My local airport right here. These are some great planes right, and I loved the F-15. Shoutout to the 142md Fighter Wing at Portland ANGB for keeping us safe
Thanks to the You Tube algorithm for finally sending this my way. As a newspaper reporter years ago I scored a back seat ride in one of the 142nd’s F-4 Phantoms. The pilot was then-commander Donald E.B. “Deb” Ward. What a ride it was.
I live in Portland, it’s so cool to have F 15s sharing the runway with commercial jet liners. Also Atlas air still flies cargo 747s out of PDX for my fellow fans of the queen.
Oregon ANG doesn't use GIBs with their F-15EXs as far as I know. USAF got them because the two-seaters were still in production for overseas customers and they'd have to spend some money to get the single-seat line going again. Single-seat birds were last produced in the US in 1985, last produced elsewhere (Japan, F-15J) in 1997.

Really nice footage! Impressive that you're able to keep distant planes so stably in view with a long lens. Are you able to do 4k in the future? I know the files are a lot bigger, but I think 4k30 would be a lot better than 1080p60.
So, you might be the right person to ask, 10ish years ago I heard a peculiar sounding aircraft, looked up and saw what I thought was a Beechcraft Starship leaving PDX. My friend who is a professional pilot said “no way, must have been an Avanti”. I know the history but also know there are a small handful that weren’t destroyed and are operational. Any thoughts?

@@thardyryll that sounds amazing. On that tip, I've just bought Maj. Gen. Ward's audiobook. I'll listen on the train this winter.
@ Thanks for that mention! I did not know about his book. (And I stand corrected - David, not Donald.
Watching this when my dad used to take me to Newark Airport back in the 1960's and we used to watch the planes from the observation deck.
A not-insignificant part of why I go planespotting is attributable to a Garfield cartoon, I'm sorry to say.
Nice videos from PDX
Thanks muchly.
This is excellent. I'm glad you got to see the F-15's doing low approaches...I caught them doing it twice in just February alone

@dylanrieck6671 Cathay Cargo has 747 flights to PDX as well
I feel like the F-15EX's might be louder than the older F-15C's they've been using.
They do have more thrust so possibly
On the other hand, they've had a couple decades to develop noise suppression tweaks.

It was a lot better before 2020, but it works for me.
