- Here is an icon evolution of the Calculator program in Windows, from Windows 1.01 up to Windows 11. The Metro calculator variants are also included for this video.

Funny thing is, Icons from before XP are higher resolution than XP and Longhorn. Anyways, Vista may be the most realistic icon.
probably because they're bitmaps and scaled in a way that's not blurry (but still see pixels) (or as i would like to call it, nearest neighbor scaling)

No they haven't got higher resolution actually they have way less resolution, you can count pixels. XP icons look blurry because they have more pixels (more resolution) so they are softer. 8 bit era (DOS, Windows 1-3.1) had screen resolutions like 160x120 or 320x240.

How much effort went into making the Calculator icon when they could focus on redesigning legacy components of Windows 11
the graphical designer has nothing to do with the main coders
If they were to redesign legacy code and components it would make the launch feel like Windows Vista. Incompatible drivers, crashes, bugs, most applications not working and etc.

XP was very cool... By this is, Vista and 7 have Microsoft Calculator. Windows 8 have Calculator Old. Windows 10 and 11 have the Microsoft Calculator new.
That prototype 6 calculator icon reminds me of macOS calculator icon.
