    . this instructor has real experience in fighting tech that work. my only advice (30 yrs of boxing) is open up/set up with more lead variant jabs. especially w/combo #1 . Dont attempt a liver rip w/o setting it off a jab or 1-2. even if opponent is shelled up your to open to a strong counter. start with a jab and end with a jab variant (if necessary) thats a boxing rule.really good stuff!

    • @MMAShredded
      @MMAShredded  6 лет назад +48

      Hey rick! Thanks for your advice! I've learned that from my coach before, jabbing away out of the liver hook. Im still not too good at it tho. I find the only time I can avoid getting hit after a liver hook punch is to step out with a low kick right after.

    • @christossid
      @christossid 4 года назад +3

      Distance is everything, well said Mister. Also the Jab at the end during your reset creates a " safe area " especially with fighters that have the tendency to answer every hit.. The final jab really discourage them to do so..

    • @anitainment6426
      @anitainment6426 4 года назад +2

      This is muay Thai/kickboxing not boxing, it's okay to throw a lead liver rip without a jab, watch some Rodtang fights, he's amazing and it's one of his go to kill shots.

    • @christossid
      @christossid 4 года назад +3

      @@anitainment6426 It's 50% boxing if not more.. Especially at the modern era of western style we have 3-5 basic kicks and the rest is boxing history... So of course you can throw a liver punch without setting it with jab or 1-2... BUT against western style it's rather difficult to execute it right and at the same time to find the opponent off guard due to style.. At Thai this very common ( liver shot with out setting ) because ITS COMPLETELY different style...
      So if you want to succeed with a liver shot best and most safe case scenario is setting up liver shot with Jab or 1-2 or kick-3 or whatever suits best your style... One way or another you must force your opponent to raise his guard in order to find open spot for liver...

A lot of the times you practice a combo on a bag not knowing if it will work in a sparring, then you find it out isnt sometimes. My job has HIGHLY irregular hours, so I can't always get to training sessions. When I do get the chance I jump on it. Also the gym/dojo I'm with is actually 4 different gyms that work together; everything from BJJ, MMA, Karate, HEMA, Kenda (and one of the gyms is at the same location as indoor archery, but they aren't part of the package deal).
      My coach posts to the group chat "Tomorrow morning, [gym location], who is coming" and I immediately said yes.
      I then ask if it is no gi and my coach replies with a picture of some brutal ground-and-pound and says "fight like this, 8 rounds." and I replied "I'll see if I can last 2"
      And sure enough I lasted 2, gassed out totally in the 3rd round.
      _______________________
      If you still then I made it all up, so be it.
      Truth is I actually held back on some details (such as my coach's name) because that would be even LESS believable. Sometimes reality is stranger than fiction.

    Your videos are awesome man! I always share them with my training partners and coaches. Love how you show the fails and are honest with yourself and the viewers such as why you go leg kick after body hook because your boxing isn’t as developed. Great videos, great martial artist, and keep on the hero’s journey!

    As a beginner. I've found many videos on basic combos, but everytime I try them out I feel out of balance and that I am doing something wrong.
    The fact that you explain your footwork, makes it so much easier to pick up. Specially for beginners like myself. Thank you very much!

    What i really like about Jeff 's style is that he is a muay thai stylist, but not the typcal very planted type of muay thai guy that doesn't throw combos and doesn't have volume, he has great footwork, head movement and combos in his muay thai style, also his boxing has goten so much better over the years, he is so sharp with his boxing combos now

    Sometimes when you pause the video to highlight something the music stops playing, not really a major problem but I thought I'd say it still.
    I love how you pause the video and graphically illustrate the technique, makes it real easy to follow. Showing real sparring makes the technique so much more credible as we viewers see how you implement it and that it does indeed really work.
    Liked and favorited the video, great advice, really like the combos. You are really great at explaining why the combo is one of your favorites and pointing to small things that help you execute the combo better e.g when you said to aim for the palm of your hand to make the knee connect better really helped me out. Or When you explained that in combo 3 the crucial step was to step outside 45 degrees so you opponent walks into the kick.
    Great Stuff, keep up the good work!

    Your method of sparring reminds me of my head instructor at the gym I go to. He spars with, Jab, Cross, Lead Hook, Teep, and a Right Round kick. He just casually will walk forward and just take people apart with about 90% of just a 1,2 combo and the occasional Low round kick. He says that 90% of his training is just basics. His timing and shot recognision is insane!
