    I use the Sovereign GT as my main detector for all uses. I hunt dry land, not so dry land, salt water beaches both the dry and wet sand. Depending on what coil I use on the machine I may get some EMI near power lines. To solve that I go with a smaller coil in those areas. Is it easy to learn. Not exactly. However I love the different tones and the depth that I find targets. I have no problem pinpointing with the machine. Practice make all the difference.

    @pastypacker - Thanks for the feedback. GB is just a ritual I have for both GT and Vaquero. I jump to all metal at times in some of the fields I hunt. The GT and Vaquero are truely awesome MD's.

    Thanks for the comment. Although I'm not crazy about the price increase, the GT is an outstanding detector. My only, wish would be that the very wide tone you get when sweeping over a target. Sizing becomes almost impossible.

    Been swinging the Sovereign series for years, in fact I've used them all except for the original. I'll never sell my GT.
    I also use a CTX though and both together are one hell of a punch. I do love though on the CTX that I can change the pitch of my tone ID to whatever I want. It really makes targets pop to life! I made some great finds with the Sovereign though.

    Just watched this again for about the fourth time, I'm not a slow learner but you have made an excellent video and as I'm a newby to this unit your video has helped me be more confident with the GT. I'm usually swinging an AT Pro with numbers and it's a bit weird not having them to back up what you think you may have found. Anyhow thanks again and please post some more if you have the time. Many thanks. Chris.

    Sorry if I came across as defensive - I welcome all feedback. Thats whats so great about this hobby, I've learned a good deal from feedback / others perspectives. I had an F75 and wish I ever got rid of it. In some areas it out performed my other detectors. I'm sure you'll do great with it. No experience with the 8000, I'll have to check out some of the videos and reviews, Good md I'm sure. Thanks again.

    Great video nice to see a fellow CNJ hunter. I'm seriously considering the GT as my next machine. Currently using an Excal so the switch should be simple enough. Anyway I'm sold thanks to your videos.

    The GT is an excellent detector with maybe one exception. The broad tone makes it tougher to pin-point then a Tesoro. The GT is very deep and great in dry sand as well. But, at 2 1/2 times the price of a Cibola, I'd just get the Cibola, or throw in a few more dollars and go for the Vaquero with GB.

    I don't think I was rating the detector only sharing my finds. However, I have owned both the Ace 250 and the GT and there is no comparison in performance, construction / durability. With that said, I had fun with my 250 and did find some nice peices on my hunts. I will agreee how ever that success is in the hand of the one using the detector.

    I saw that video. He's right, but keep in mind the GT can do things other MD's can't do. But thats true with most MD's. As you may already know, I've tried them all. All the top end MD's and I can say, for me, Tesoro makes the best MD for the money. I still think the Vaquero is the best on the market. I also own a Whites MXT which is also excellent, maybe the best, again, for me, the best display unit out there in the hiher priced units. Just my opinion.

    You have an Etrac and I am insterested in your comparison of the Etrac to the Sovereign GT.
    I am trying to decide on my first detector. I have been reading, have watched many videos and I am at the point where I think I may be doing too much of that. The more I read and watch, the more difficult it is for me to make a decision.
    My interest is primarily coins and jewelry.

    Haven't heard that before. I also just found out minelab no longer makes the meter for it, which was one of the main reasons I wanted a gt. That and the ability to change coils unlike the excal.

  • @mjcz5853
    @mjcz5853  12 лет назад

    Its an outstanding beach detector more for dry sand however. It might take little time to understand what its telling you though so watch the videos on youtube, and just use it. It is one deep machine and will get you the goods for sure.

    The GT iy all time favorites. My only, small gripe is the 8 plus inch very wide target footprint. This makes sizing pretty much impossible

  • @mjcz5853
    @mjcz5853  11 лет назад

    Two other comments. On the GT, the broad tone you get makes sizing a little difficult as well. I've never owned a GTI 2500 so I really can't comment on comparisons.

    The tones are variableyou have to train your ear , takes a while to get used to but once you have mastered it theres not a better detector , I like a fool sold mine along with a 705 to fund a Deus which is a brilliant machine but it aint a beach machine .
    I had my Soveriegn for five years now going to buy a new one its sadly missed !!!

    I was not knocking your video, your Minelab or what you said. Just sharing on the topic. I Have not been in the hobby for over a year. Will be getting an F75 or an Omega 8000 with three coils for the summer., see what happens. :)

    fucking amazing mettle detector awesome on the beach. i have just literally got used to mine and i love it. As long as its ground balanced right this thing will find :) it screams at sliver and the sound is very clear. This was a risk as i new nothing about mettle detecting and i had some cash so wanted an all round detector and the sov this thing has had some proper thought put into it

    Thank you. I've been looking for this machine for a long time and today my patience was rewarded. The unit I bought looks like it's never been out of the box. The only fault I could find was one of the battery lugs was broken off. I guess if the other one goes I'll have to use a rubber band? Any ideas? The lugs feel a bit flimsy to me. I just subbed you. I was told this was a great beach machine and I was hoping it would be ok in parks also and this video just answered that for me so thanks for that. HH&GL Chris from Oz.

    You don't need to ground balance when running with disc on, gb is only used in all metal. Nice vid...

    Would you think the GT would get deeper than the Cibola? Also, depth wise, do you think the GTI 2500 would be comparable?
    Thanks and great video!

    With out being able to use it, it's tough to comment. I would just call Minelab. Based on what you're saying, I'm sure they'll probably want you to send it to them.

    im having problems with my gt soverign apparently i dont think the ground balance switch is working, or its just not handling the interferance cause it keeps going crazy on a plain feilds, my pin point dosnt seam to work too. so maybe the switch is broke and its not that old, what u think i got 2 years half warranty still

  • @neilgutteridge6405

    It looks like you were searching in disc mode so why did you ground balance the machine.......if you switch into disc it is totally unnecessary to ground balance as it uses automatic ground cancel.Ground balancing is only used if you are searching in all metal mode where you ground balance and use fix if the ground is evenly mineralised or trac if the ground varies.

    Hi. I've just managed to buy a Sovereign GT in immaculate condition. Do you still use your GT? I've been using other makes and models before getting the GT. I'm finding that it has a slow recovery rate after its passed over a target, can you tell me if this is normal please. If you still have your GT I'll sub and follow you. Cheers. Chris down under.

    my understanding is you never want to run notch higher than Disc. am i wrong. i have an Elite

    • @magoomagoon
      @magoomagoon 8 лет назад +2

      +Ron Fletcher You've got it the wrong way round. Never run DISC higher than NOTCH.
      Think of it like this, DISC discriminates every conductive target below the setting position, NOTCH lets you fine tune what you are discriminating against within a fine band.
      For example you could run at a low discrimination to get rid of most trash and iron targets, but say you were fed up of digging pull tabs you could 'notch' the pulltabs out.
      This would casue the detector to ignore the pulltab signals but still accept the narrow band between disc and notch.
      Using another way to explain it.... Say the disc and notch settings have 10 levels. level 1-2 is trash, 3-5 is low conductive coins / some gold. 6-7 is pull tabs. 8-10 is high conductive coins (copper silver etc).
      Say you set your disc to ignore iron and trash at level 2.
      If you wanted to ignore pull tabs at 6-7 you just move the notch over til the pulltab signal nulls.
      You will then ignore anything within the 6-7 band but still accept everything from 3-5 and 8-10.
      If you had used DISC to ignore pulltabs it would ignore EVERYTHING below that setting.
      Hope this makes sense?
      There is a pretty decent diagram in the manual available to DL for free from minelab which may explain it better!
      Always run Disc lower than Notch.
      I realise this reply is a bit old now! but hope it helps others if youve already sussed this :)

    Peter Abbott i would never swap a GT for a deus ever even if it was a straight swap with out putting a value on both. GT is probably the best you can get. Your ears need to be trained your right... check out the vid E track vs sov GT

    • @restrainingdylan2524
      @restrainingdylan2524 9 лет назад

      ***** sovereign will never beat the deus .deus has same depth and way faster recovery .

    • @owenkitto27
      @owenkitto27 9 лет назад

      Blake Garvey try using a Deus on wet sand! If it even works the GT would smash it. The deus has a much faster recovery speed on the dry sand As for depths mate The GT has a staggering Depth on sandy conditions. ITS as deep as my CTX and MY CTX is deeper than the deus! the deus is not a bad machine by any stretch. If you want light and fast its grate and yes it hits hammered coins very well...

    • @restrainingdylan2524
      @restrainingdylan2524 9 лет назад

      ***** the deus is fine on wet sand with the new 3.2 update there is plenty of people using the deus on wet sand .i had a ctx and it was a piece of shit the fbs technology nulls over good targets mixed in iron and the recovery speed is incredibly slow .i know this because i had a ctx for 2 yrs and was in a club with 5 other detectorists who have them we hunted out tons of parks then did the same with the deus and found so much more coins .the deus will also get 12" with the 11" coil so depth isnt a problem depth was only a problem with the 9".

    • @restrainingdylan2524
      @restrainingdylan2524 9 лет назад

      ***** the real problem with the ctx is it has a inbuilt silencer this is why you dont find many bottle caps with the ctx because of its strong silencer the only problem is having such a strong silencer you also miss good targets and coins a percentage of the time .
      its like the deus turn its silencer on 4 and you will miss some slanted coins the thing about the deus is you can adjust the silencer so you can turn it down to get most the coins with the ctx you cant and this is its major flaw apart from its slow recovery speed .i can hammer a park over and over with the ctx and find some coins and then i can use a deus and find every coins and this is what guys who arent good with electronics fail to understand im not just some deus fanboy i know how these detectors work back the front inside out and the silencer and the slow cpu on the ctx is whats hampers and ultimatly destroys its true potential .

    • @restrainingdylan2524
      @restrainingdylan2524 9 лет назад

      ***** this is why deus is the no1 selling detector because people are seeing the flaws in the ctx .too overpriced ,too heavy,too slow and nulling over iron .i used to love minelab but thier new machines are no where near the deus in performance .
