    The whole tournament I watched as Marine gains huge mountains and destroys all rivals in 3 seconds. And I had a question, will Suisei cope with it?
    Now I know the answer. And Suisei did the impossible twice

    While I enjoyed the tournament, I wish they could've just sticked to Tetris only. In 10 out of the 13 games. the Tetris players got easily defeated whenever they came across the Puyo players, and it was a lackluster to see some of the strong Tetris Vtubers getting eliminated in early rounds.
    Marine, who chose to be a Puyo player, easily sweeping "The Suisei" with the score of 5-1 in the final round pretty much sums up how this tournament went. Also how unbalanced this game is against Tetris players.
    Edit: Just to clarify, I was so happy and excited to see Marine facing Susiei. They are the best Puyo and Tetris player in Hololive. But I think the final match could've been more fiercely intense rather than being a quick one-sided game if the game mechanics were balanced better.

      @@AthosJosue Speaking of fun, I just scrolled through the rest of the final game after this round, because it was just the repeat of Marine stacking up for a minute and Suisei automatically losing. It really wasn't exciting and intense as much as I hoped for.
      Now, if they competed evenly under either Puyo or Tetris? That could've been much more intense and fun to watch.

      @@hungryim8643 Suisei wasn't fast enough to send garbage and misdropped a ton.
      She had her chances, she just didn't play that well.
      She would destroy any other Puyo player, Marine's just genuinely really good.
      With the way you said "The Suisei", I really feel like you have the illusion like many others that Suisei is supposed to be a Tetris pro, when in reality both her and Marine hover around mid-tier for the ranked scene in these games.
      Higher-mid to high tier games in PuyoTet actually very strongly favors Tetris, to the point where Tetris dominates, since Puyo garbage is detrimental to their setup, while Tetris garbage is fairly trivial if the opponent fails to get a long chain (which is almost always with the speed Tetris can throw garbage at).
      Puyo looked broken in this particular tourni because the Tetris players outside of Sui are simply not good/fast enough to actually make use of their advantage. Very few of them even learned to set up combos and just opted to keep sending minimal garbage that does not affect the Puyo player's chaining in the slightest, while the playstyle of PuyoPuyo is completely dependent on combos. To say this game has a balancing problem from a beginner's tourni seems really misplaced, but I see similar sentiments all over in comments.

    There were still limiters... no 4wide for tetris and no GTR for puyo, otherwise the match would have turned into quick draw, if Suisei decided to send junk one row at a time, it's hard for Marine to do anything.

    • @LilyKazami
      @LilyKazami 3 месяца назад

      Suichan can still combo off in other ways, and Marine knew this, so she used a different building strategy to counter combo attacks. Suisei herself said afterwards, even if she was allowed to 4w, it would be tougher to beat than the GTR that she'd destroyed in practice.

      It's only easy if the tetris player isn't good enough to attack consistently and fast. With less skilled players, puyo combos are easier to pull off competently. So in this tournament it definitely had a huge advantage because nobody was fast enough at tetris to have an advantage.

    i don't know much but by seeing all the tournament it doesn't seem that well balanced to me, the puyo part can get a chain of 5 to 8 that can destroy the tetris in on sec, also true that if they get the enough blocks they can't do anything anymore but that require more time for the tetris part.
    someone that knows better can tell me more?

      Tetris is favored but at this skill level Puyo has an advantage.

    • @Franklii21
      @Franklii21 Год назад +19

      Yeah that's because everyone is actually considered around mid-low level players in the tournament. Tetris advantage all stems from speed BEFORE the Puyo players do their set up. If tetris players are fast enough to stack and keep throwing garbage, constantly harassing puyo set ups, then they are favored. Sadly, no one was skilled/fast enough to interrupt Puyo players in the tournament consistently. The Tetris wins over Puyo were mostly because of endurance and the Puyo players in question were not setting up big hits during free windows like how Marine was and they were simply doing random drops, whereas Marine's always had big combos the moment she breaks a color.
      For Sui in question, as weird as it is to say this, she wasn't fast enough to set up t-spins and should have just opted to ren chaining instead. She certainly has the speed but was beaten fairly by Marine. Remember, Tetris vs Tetris matchup and Tetris vs Puyo is pretty different. You have to change strategies because t-spins don't have as big as an impact compared to Tetris vs Tetris. If you are going to opt into doing t-spins, you got to set them up fast and most importantly, consistently. Throw in some tetrises here and there along with that but if you can't consistently and quickly set up, better just opt into stacking and then ren chaining. I think majority saw what happened when Sui-chan was doing rens in Marine's stream. Of course, good puyo players can see this coming and opt into interrupting Tetris players but that's where the supposed Tetris advantage comes from which is speed.
      edit: If you are interested in the game enough, I highly suggest watching high elo players doing t-spins and tetrises vs Puyo players to see how much impact it can actually make when done quickly and consistently. It's almost night and day between mid and high elo players

      @@Damian_h It's because it is speed vs power. The best player at ppt is not a puyo but a tetris player who even wins 3 vs 1 because his speed prevents power chains from even being formed. Marine's speed basically was the same as Suisei's thus her power output had Sui digging most of the time instead of preparing big combos herself like she did a couple days ago when playing vs Marine and burying her with 12er+ combos because back then Marine was slower.
      Also Marine had a new tactic this duel to put her trigger up higher so that Sui's first attacks wouldn't interrupt her future combos unlike in previous matches.

      @GeneralWPCO Год назад +7

      @@archiec6915 Exactly, one mistake in tetris means combo is broken, you need to build up even more row to get a 4-row tetris.
      Meanwhile, one mistake in puyo you had a chance to get a combo with the next one, no need to buildup the whole thing.
      Nevertheless, Marine is indeed a great puyopuyo player. She can make a consecutive 8 or 9 combos, when average players usually be like 3 or 4 combos.
