@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ I had noticed on the first review video you did on the KingChii that there was something going across along the outside bottom of the opening where the lid comes to rest. Did you use smoker lid gasket?
Tom, great video. What are the swing temps on that controller? As we have talked in the past, my Z 6002B has swings of 25 up and down. They have sent me a new controller and I am installing it and trying today. I want to like my Z, but I am not impressed with this PID.
Thanks for watching! The smoke Daddy is plus or minus 5 degrees or so. Strange on your z-grills mine are plus or minus 5ish. Hopefully the new controller works well for you
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ So I changed it, and ran it with some beef dino ribs @225. Ran between 218 and 230 with most of the time 222 to 228. This controller is much better. I bought this Z based upon your reviews and recommendations. If the controller craps out, Im going with a Smoke Daddy. Thanks again for the help
Hi Tom I wish I had been as successful as you, I bought the king chief and a smoke daddy controller and it ran 100 over setting constantly. Called smoke daddy and they blamed me for hooking it up wrong. Not possible auger works on feed fan blowed. They agreed to send me a new one, worked slightly better but worse than the one it came with. I’m at a loss to understand what went wrong
Thanks for watching Jack! They still sell the vertical and have a bigger vertical coming soon. Not sure why they stopped making the more traditional type
Honestly the market is too flooded with all the Traeger, Pit Boss, Camp Chef, etc. with that said, our model was not selling very well, while the vertical smoker has not slowed down in sales, so we transitioned to those, and are releasing the double door vertical smoker next month
@@Smokedaddyinc That’s too bad. I bought mine from you guys a few years ago and absolutely love it. That thing is a tank! And huge space (I got the biggest one you had at the time 1090 I believe) Do you still sell covers for it?
@@jackwebb5917 It is very sad, we loved the model too. Like you said it is a tank! Unfortunately, we do not. I don't want to send you to a competitor, but the Traeger covers fit almost perfectly on the 1190
Hope I am asking this the right area?? I just ordered the King Chii pellet grill and it seems common complaint are the temp swings. Considering what the Smoke Daddy does yes the price warrants it. However I a not in position to afford to buy it so I was hoping with your extensive knowledge maybe you can help?? Are there any other PID controllers that make not be as good as the Smoke Daddy but are better than OEM?? Currently looking at Meatender Universal as an example.
Thanks for Watching! Haven’t used any after market controllers other than smoke daddy….. if you have something else that’s PID and is cheaper, go for it
One question yes it pretty simple my only question the green wire that goes to ground the new board just like the pellet pro does not have provision for it? May not need it?
What did you do with the ground wire? The video explains its pretty much plug and play but after you were done it looks like you tucked the ground wire inside. Just wondering what you did since the Pellet Pro does not have a connector just for the one green wire ( the ground ). @@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ
It did not hurt to ask. I think its just a secondary ground since there is another green/ground wire on fan motor connector. Going to turn it on see what happens? Thanks @@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ yes, the Traeger Tailgater almost resembles the KingChii. I’ve looked at so many pellet grills because I’m about to purchase one that can’t remember which Z Grill it was that I thought resembled the KingChii. I did take notice from one of your videos that the components are pretty similar. Maybe that’s what got me to think they were similar. Most parts are made in China look the same just branded for the company. I’m leaning more to buy the KingChii for that reason because it seems like I’ll just be paying more for the brand name. I also noticed that KingChii has 2 different ones for sale which look identical but one has an oil box and the other comes with an oil bucket along with a cover. It appears one is called Pro Series 1 and the other Pro Series 2. I can’t figure out if they are in fact identical with the exception of the oil containers. Would you happen to know which of the 2 is the most current model and which is the better of the 2?

What an awesome overhaul!

How much for each part? Looked like fun tho! With Awesome results!

Did you just leave the RTD probe in the middle there or eventually put it back on the side in its regular spot?

@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ I had noticed on the first review video you did on the KingChii that there was something going across along the outside bottom of the opening where the lid comes to rest. Did you use smoker lid gasket?
Yes, I typically will install a high heat gasket to the lid of most of my grills to lesson leakage
