    Stuff we use:
CAMERA - This is the camera we have used to film 90+% of our interviews (over 200 interviews and counting) It continues to be our workhorse - amzn.to/2dAercv
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2dUWP8h--
    AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post - amzn.to/2e2AVVt
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/2dFuPZg
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2dApDpp
COMPUTER - Our favorite computer, we each have one and have used various models since 2010 - amzn.to/2fzEYE1

Removing the options of clichés from consideration so that you're forced to conceive more original / unique ways to get to 20 ideas is brilliant.

These videos are so interesting. If you're a screenwriter I imagine they're useful, but as just a moviegoer they're still amazing to learn new things. Keep it up! You're great.

Hi Juan, thanks. It's great to hear that you are enjoying and learning from these videos even though you aren't pursuing screenwriting. We'd like to think a lot of our videos have that crossover appeal but it is not something we hear often. Cheers!

One of the best descriptions I ever read was from a translated mange dub video. It was something along the lines of "the fire in her eyes was audible." There is no way I'd come up with that unless I had gone through a bunch of different ways of doing it. I've been getting stuck, thinking I'm bad at describing things. I'm glad I came across this. It's time to read descriptions and try my own angles.

I just found this video 3 years later when I'm in a point where I'm questioning whether or not I should still persue my "dream" of become a writer, I'm a disable girl, and I've been thinking about writing about story inspired on myself but today's writers only care about toxic and overly sexualized stories, that makes me feel bad cause then my stories won't sell

There are still people who care about non traditional stories, one's that are not generic and are original/thoughtful. Just go with your gut feeling, don't get discouraged.

Never worry about what will sell or who your audience is. Through writing, we are all universally human. What is clear and true will resonate with audiences.

The way Karl went "Huhh" is so cute. Anyway, I'm confusing with my way to get into film industry without losing my soul. The process of learning often beat me up hard, and along the way I lose my way of working on things, which is, as Karl said, being curious and going deeper. I didn't know much about this because people around me don't want to share their experiences or they don't expect much and just want the work to be done on time. That's freaking terrible to me. So this video particularly is saving my soul, Karl's words is what I'm looking to hearing all this time. Thank you so much ❤

I have an idea that I liked so much but I found that it is already taken into a film
    What should do 🥺?
Should I twist it like we twist genre beats?
So it is the same but looks different and unique?

story idea: the movie ghost same idea. the story is about random people as ghosts on the planet like the guy on the train in the movie just existing trying to entertain themselves watching the world. board room meetings parks families various industry news. then the end of the world comes ww3 and they watch everyone die then get taken away. the ghosts go to find who killed them and find them in the deep underground bases some have found out who exactly did it and they converge on those people.

  • @madnessbydesign1415

I love the idea of deeper descriptions of characters, but I always hear you need to have your character and their flaw be immediately identifiable the instant you see them - or you've failed. That's contradictory. A character with any depth can't be clearly defined the instant you see them. I've also gotten the note that 'People don't want scripts with description, they just want action and dialog.'. That's an actual note I got on a Sci-Fi script. Don't have description. I like the way Mr. Iglesias talks about it, so I think I'm going to follow his advice...

Random thought, nothing to do with the video. if my imagination took a physical form, what would it be?
It felt like I knew the answer to that question long before I thought of this question.
our imagination is entirely different, yet when we try to imagine what would the imagination look like..we all agree on one answer
vast dark universe. starts are thought.
it doesn't matter how wild your imagination could be
you cant imagine something bigger than your own imagination
like, that is the maximum of your power
    the border to your ability
    until you learn something new
or get reminded about something you knew
only then you could exceed your own imagination
    your imagination is a fire
    learning is firewood
thoughts are the wood crack while burning
    Don't lose your fire.
you don't know what you are missing
drugs and alcohol don't light up a fire or help you get it back
    they make a fake fire.
you will want your real fire back so bad
you will be addicted to substances that can only provide fake fire
that's how bad you want it
fire warms, fire burns, firelight, fire shapes
fake fire is fake, not there, wannabe,
