- OH URANIA by ANDREW GOLD. A song about hope that there is life out there -- up in the stars. Andrew on piano, clavinet, synthesizer and background vocals... Leland Sklar on bass, Russell Kunkel on drums. To finish off the lyrics Andrew needed a 3 syllable word about astronomy and Urania (Goddess of Astronomy) worked just fine.

Andrew is known for being a singer, songwriter, musician and arranger. His works include the Top 10 single "Lonely Boy" (1977), as well as "Thank You for Being a Friend" (1978) and "Never Let Her Slip Away" (1978).
Gold was a multi-instrumentalist who played guitar, bass, keyboards, accordion, synthesizer, harmonica, saxophone, flute, drums and percussion, as well as more arcane musical devices such as ukulele, musette, and harmonium.[1] He was also a producer, sound engineer, film composer, session musician, actor, and painter.
Gold played and recorded with artists such as Carly Simon, Jennifer Warnes, Linda Ronstadt, Stephen Bishop, America, Nicolette Larson, Maria Muldaur, Neil Diamond, Barbi Benton, Juice Newton, Leo Sayer, Freddie Mercury, The Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, Karla Bonoff, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, John Lennon, Brian Wilson, James Taylor, Roy Orbison, Don Henley, Bette Midler, Diana Ross, Cher, Jesse McCartney and J.D. Souther.
He played a major role as multi-instrumentalist and arranger for Linda Ronstadt's breakthrough album, 1974's Heart Like a Wheel, and her next four albums. Among other accomplishments, he played the majority of instruments on "You're No Good," Ronstadt's only #1 single on the Billboard Hot 100, and the same on "When Will I Be Loved," "Heat Wave" and many other classic hits.

Yes, very sad to read he has passed. I had no idea until just now. I loved his music and I always carried him around as a friend. I had just never met him. In 2006 I was laid up with a back problem and could not move. I was on my own so could only connect with people on the Internet and one day thought of Andrew. I found his email address and wrote to him. He wrote back. Yes, thank you for being a friend.

Having heard Fraternal Order of the All I can now hear INFLUENCE OF BRIAN WILSON HERE. Andrew was incredible at channeling the best in writers and producers and make them his own. My favorite solo record of his...RIP AG.
I love this. It's a bit Elton-ish, but more charming in its way.
Not familiar with that one, but I'll have to give it a listen. That's very sweet that he did that. I like to convey to a woman how I'm feeling about her, too. And music is a wonderful way to channel that emotion, you know? You just hope that the other person knows how you're feeling about them and how happy and wonderful they make you feel.

I’m so sad Andrew had passed a few years ago. This is my favorite song he wrote ,it’s either this or you’re free. I had a question , do you know where that autographed guitar is hanging or where it is? I would love to admire it or possibly purchase it if that was possible. It looks so cool! What a big part of my life he is so something like that would be awesome to see!

A senior in high school, surrounded by Kiss and Deep Purple. I liked Alice Cooper, his songwriting overshadowed by the spectacle. This album never ceased to amaze me. Almost fifty years ago., Todays music still is fine. I just prefer not having to look that far and deep.
