- In this SoCraftastic craft kit episode I try PAINTING WITH SEQUINS! Paint with sequins using the DIY Sequin Art product, which I demo & review as well as give tips & instructions for. Sequin art kits are similar Diamond Dotz diamond paintings, cross stitch, Perler beads, paint by numbers, & latch hook but with twist. I got this in 6th grade and it came with cardboard instead of styrofoam and I pricked myself so many times and on top of that I spilled the pins on my carpet floor so to this day I still see pins in my carpet

Nice job because after 10 minutes of doing it this way I would have grabbed the glue and dumped the sequence lol
Sarah here's a thought. You could of used modge podge and glued fabric over the styrofoam and glued the velvet picture over the top of the fabric to hide the edges of the fabric. The nicest thing would be you can either use a solid piece of fabric or print like ice cream sprinkles or something. Just an idea for you next time you do one of those. Depending on the size of the frame. You can get a remnant piece or maybe felt. I understand why they used styrofoam. And I agree styrofoam is not pretty to look at either.

I did one of these, I was left with pin shaped bruises on my fingers

Question: Do people ever look at your finished and say, "you so patient". I am not the most patient person in the world, but are os zen to me, so no patience needed. But I get that comment all the time, nd it still confuses me.
How is it a negative thing that it takes a long time? Isn't that a whole plus? It means it has high playability time!
It was a negative for me because I was trying to get it done in a limited amount of time. Or for impatient people. haha Otherwise, high playability time is great!

Honestly when I do sequin art I open one colour at a time, with a bunch of pins in a tray. I find doing it easier that way.

if you are going to paint syrofoam, you need to cover it with a large amount of glue as a base coat because the paint will burn

I just finished a Christmas sequin art kit (and posted the video) I found at Home Goods. I started it in November and just finished it last night. In my defense, I’ve spent part of the last month sick so have mostly been coloring in coloring books for the past couple of weeks.
I stuck my sequin on the pin first and then stuck it into the board together.
Mine was a preprinted sheet that just got stuck to the frame.
Ouch the pins. It looks pretty when done though. They should have used something like glue to stick the sequins in. Also, have you tried Diamond Ay Painting? It’s very relaxing!!! Definitely something not to give to the kiddos!!!

How would you clean the black flock picture if you leave like that? Because the sequins and black flock will attract dust and a cat hairs over in time. The reason why I say this is because. I have picture frame with the flock velvety (material) in back of my picture frames. And I use a scotch sticky roller to remove the dust. But in this case I would suggest to put some type of shadow box. To keep dust away.
You made painting with diamonds and you thought this would be done quickly? Wow, you're one optimist aren't you? ;D Congrats for completing, I don't think I would have patience to do that. Also - yes I believe working with such long nails was making it definitely much more difficult - and for me to watch it as well, sorry! (I mean I don't mean to offend you and I understand you want to look nice in videos but every time I watch you doing handwork like that (or with clay or whatever similar) with such nails it's almost hurting me and I basically scream whyyyy?? %D (as I said no offense intended)).
The result looks surprisingly great and very shiny though, so I believe it's worth it at the end.
P.S. Yes, make the 3D elephant too, that might be cute! :)
I'm British and we call it polystyrene here so mabye thats a British product?? I had one of these when I was little and I had just sorted all the colours into separate containers and then my little sister knocked them and mixed them up I was so upset I moved out of our room (we shared a room) and swapped with my brother (he moved in with her) 😂😂😂 btw love all your videos but would love to see more craft videos again 💕

Yes - please do the elephant. When I was little, we used to do the 3D dolls.... the dresses of the dolls were the styrofoam and we had to put the sequence in w/ the pins. Then you would have a small “Barbie like” doll (from the waist up), and you would stick it on top. Some had chenille arms. There were so many different ones to choose from. I loved those. They are called Li’L Missy Beaded Doll Kit. There are a bunch on Amazon but they are pricey. I found some on EBay (kits to make some) for a really good deal! They are cute! Check it out. I’m tempted to buy one and try it out again. I’d love to see you make one of those! They are from the 70’s. I’m aging myself. LOL. Love your channel.

Polystyrene is pronounced: Polly-st-igh -reen 🙂 Styrofoam is a brand of Polystyrene. Like when people call sticky tape Sellotape but really it’s sticky tape and Sellotape is the brand.

Can you try Diamond Painting?? They sell many on WISH, that’s where I have bought all mine🤩 they have glue instead of needles, and they have a “pen” to take them on with😊

Believe it of not but back in the 1970's we used to do this into fake plastic fruit! I don't know why? But people used to put them in a bowl. Pushing the pins into plastic fruit was horrible! it hurt so bad don't know why we did it!!
I do these all the time and there are several different ways to put the pins on the board but you had the sequins facing the wrong way because the part you had facing up is supposed to face down.I'm only saying this because it might be harder with them facing the opposite way.
I'm surprised that it cost 20 something dollars because in the uk we get them for about £9.89 or something ps you were right it is polystyrene but instead of pronouncing the first y as why we say it as u but not as you more like up.

You could try wrapping some tape around your finger pads. Also, maybe the eraser end of a pencil could help with placement?
You should try the older antique ornament crafts. Styrofoam form, pins, sequins, ribbons, and beads. And they are not specifically holliday, so if you find one you love, great craft room decoration.

You should definitely do the 3D kit. But just a little tip, put a bandaid on your fingertip to push the pins in, it won't hurt your fingers as much, and it's not something big or clunky that's going to make the process uncomfortable for you.
I´d LOVE to see the sequin elephant!! I did make two 3D sequin hearts a couple of years ago and I spent soo long making those aswell. These types of projects are really time consuming

The 3D sequin arts are easier! And quicker! As rather than pinning the sequins in you glue them down! I'm from the UK and grew up doing these 😂
If someone wanted to do a lot of these, I would recommend a pin pushing tool like they use in making bobbin lace. It's a bit of a specialized tool, but there's several online stores that sell lacemaking materials.
