FWIW, I started at a company as a Data Analyst and it was like "go make this report". In learning how to make a good report, I learned the business and built connections. This helped me build enough of a reputation to manage a project, they saw I was good at it, and then I made a lateral move/promotion to Business Analyst. It seems from a career perspective that there's a bit of a dead-end where you can only rise so far as a Data Analyst and either need to go the business/mgmt route (people skills) or double down on technical side as a data scientist or database dev. Great video!

I agree that there's a bit of a cap on how high you can rise in a data analyst title. It's not much different from other professional roles though. Eventually you have to choose a technical or management route to keep rising within an organization. And it's also perfectly fine to be content with staying in the same type of role for an extended time!

data analytics in healthcare would nice to have but it's hard to get your first job in analytics.

I can definitely relate to the job title confusion. I am a business analyst with a management degree and a certification in data science. I actually do both jobs heavily (ba role plus heavy data role) and am one of the few BA's on my team that also has coding skills. This puts me in a unique position to do it all with one salary. Should I ask for a raise or title change??

Hey Catharine! If you're in a company (or switch to a company) that recognizes the value all those skills add, you should be able to get a higher salary and/or title. It's hard to say specifically without know what you're current salary and industry are, but you're in a position where your skills are very in demand in the market so it could be a good time to leverage that.

I have a background in software testing...left it in 2017. I'm interested in learning data analytics, but have some reservations. My math background is weak, but I have experience in SQL, and know programming in C# and Java. And I have worked with Excel for 20+ years. What's a good way to learn statistics and other aspects of the "analyst side"?

Get on her calendar and she will walk you through. But I have found a lot on Coursera… Google has a Data Analytics certification program. Udemy has tons of training also.
