How to make an Octopus for a Premature Baby (No Sew, Crocheted Octopus for a Preemie)

  • I have been making Octopus for Preemie's for a few years now. They are my go to quiet time project. They are a fun quick make and you can often donate them to your local NICU. It is essential though that you use cotton yarn it is less likely to shed loose fibres.
OCTOPAL FACT: The octopus or "octopus" acts as a calming aid for premature babies. The tentacles replicate the umbilical cord, which babies hold onto in the womb. With tentacles to hold on to, the babies are less likely to pull out tubes and essential monitoring equipment that are attached to their bodies.

Thank you for the tutorial! I'm not sure where Ive gone wrong on the ruffle though because mind just turned out all the same length and was more like a skirt. So I did in the first loop single crochet and half double ( yarn over pull through) then in the next loop I did double crochet ( yarn over pull through 2 pull through 2 again) then in the next loop I did half double crochet and single. And then repeated this sequence 🤔

    • @njcraftycreations

You are most welcome! Sorry you had trouble with the ruffle. I mis-spoke during the tutorial but it looks like you saw the comments that it is a Single crochet and HDC... then it should be 3 x DC in the next loop, before going back to the HDC and Single... and then repeating that entire sequence all the way around. From reading your comment it sounds like you may have done too few Double Crochets. I hope this helps!
