WASHINGTON, D.C.; JOINT BASE ANDREWS, MARYLAND; FORT MOORE AND PLAINS, GEORGIA, USA - A state funeral for Jimmy Carter, the former U.S. president who died on Dec. 29 at the age of 100, will be held at the Washington National Cathedral. U.S. President Joe Biden, who will eulogize Carter at the funeral, has directed that Jan. 9 be a national day of mourning. After the funeral service, Carters remains will travel back to his hometown of Plains, Georgia, for a private funeral service and interment at the Carter residence. Prior to interment, the U.S. Navy will conduct a missing man formation flyover to honor former President Carter’s service in the Navy and time as commander-in-chief.
Supreme Court justices, members of Congress, and others will arrive at the U.S. Capitol Tuesday for President Jimmy Carter’s lying-in-state ceremony.
Vice President Kamala Harris is set to deliver one of the eulogies for Carter following his death on December 29 at the age of 100.
