Heir, you should keep your hoplites in phalanx most of the time. I'd say all the time, unless they're pursuing. Units can run and charge in phalanx now, and their charge bonus and attack power are insane. Treat your hoplites like normal infantry and they'll be unstoppable early game.
angelfire1987 Yes, only do this to hoplites in Divide et Impera, not the vanilla game. And I meant sword infantry, yes. Swords are more flexible in DEI but when they're not outflanked, hoplites are extremely powerful from the front when you put them into phalanx. In the base game, phalanx is like a shield wall for hoplites. In DEI, it's a permanent stance they can run and charge in, and it gives an even higher stat bonus to applicable hoplite units.
Broreale Ah gotcha. I'll be staying away from the DEI mod for now while I get used to the vanilla game, but will keep this in mind. Sucks how they're purely defensive in the vanilla game though. I'd be chasing fools with spears all day ha.
New to Heir's channel and listening to his Carthaginian ranting as a (wannabe) Roman through and through. Very enjoyable, Roma Invicta, looking forward to more!
Thanks! Will do! You made me feel like doing a Hannibal at the Gates campaign again. You'll be happy to know I'm playing as Syracuse and Carthage isn't doing too well (just a couple of transport fleets and no settlements) :) Also, does DEI work for the expansion packs? Or is it just the Grand Campaign?
oh when you told us this would be only once a week I was a little sad about the wait between episodes thinking they would all just be twenty minutes or so, but this is nice.
Watching this I got the worst case of deja vu. To the point where I had to skip around in the video to make sure I hadn't seen it before. I feel as if he's played on that exact map using that set-up with the fortifications before...
I know you're concertrating with commentry but it would be nice if you would zoom in more to see the combat, was reallying intrested on how the "greek swordsmen" looked. Don't misunderstand though great series :)
Heir the reason that the javelin men were wavering was because some of the units that boarded the ship stayed on killing them even after their ship sunked
Probably already know this, but the scutarri are really good melee units early game in this mod. They give me hell when i play as Rome and other factions up till the Marius Reforms (like turn 200).
Heir I don't get why you're using those submods, they take away a lot of challenge and difference in a DeI campaign. The negative public order from garrisoning armies actually makes campaigns much more interesting, higher upkeep makes the campaign more of a challenge.
Daemon Blackfyre I know what you mean but it is also a matter of personal preference and what is more recordable. 30 minute battles and only being able to afford 1 army while tediously maintaining public order doesn't always make it fun to watch. I always have to balance making it entertaining, good flow, and fun. If folks playing offline like the original mod better I understand.
HeirofCarthage I guess that does make sense, I just think that the public is _less_ tedious because it's harder. This is because rebellions are more likely, therefore the public order balance a more dangerous thing to consider. The higher upkeep adds interest because you have to think more carefully about engaging in battle. If you lose you could be totally screwed, or even if you just lose a certain amount of men, as replenishment outside of settlements is harder you have to find that right balance.
Daemon Blackfyre At one episode per week, Heir has the right of it here. Using the mods to speed up battles and lessen tedium is the way to go. When you play at home with all the time and patience in the world using DEI unaltered sounds ok, but in reality of keeping viewers interested and himself having fun, using the mods to alter it is a good choice.
So Heir, I have not played any of the Total War since Rome I. I want to buy one of the newer one and play some multiplayer, which version should I buy? Atilla, Rome 2, Shogun 2 ? What is considered the best out of them and where are most players?
Playing along dei mod with this however by turn 3 i had slums everywhere. any ideas why? pretty much matched this move for move. I also had some rebellion that Syracuse put down for me. strange.
***** If they could combine the recruiting and construction mechanics of Rome 2, while having the buildings are outside of the city deal from Shogun 2, mixed with the family tree thing from Atilla, and adding the- you get the point, combine the best innovations of each title and throw 'em all in a melting pot. That is what we need.
SPLegoStudios (Phoenix Studios) After CA cleaned up most of the bugs in Rome II it became a genuinely enjoyable game, whilst Attila still has that stupid Testudo bug (to my knowledge) which can cripple your, otherwise perfect, strategy.
yeah, I figured that swords stands for infantry, but what does it mean when the circle / square is half orange? and how does medium infantry icon looks like? I seriously looked for a reference sheet about it but couldn't find any...
Actually, Heir, the Romans eventually stole/copied Phoenician, or Carthaginian, naval technology, which was state of the art at the time, in order to gain naval supremacy. The Romans captured some Carthaginian ships and noticed all the pieces of the ships were conveniently numbered, thereby making them very easy to duplicate.
Heir when using the brimstone pits couldn't you light them with your armed citizens to minimize the substantial loses to a quality unit? Also using the armed citizens may work as a bait to draw the AI into the brimstone pits.
Syracusian Hoplites put up a good fight. A rear flank would have been better than the slingers. Or a rotation with the javelin men into the back of the Hoplites would have finished them off
Hey Heir, I downloaded the main mod but couldn't figure out exactly which of the submods you're using. Could you list which submods you've downloaded for this amazing new campaign :). Thanks I appreciate it and keep up the great work!
Curtis Cross He talked about it in one of his recent rome 2 multiplayer battles. He said he isnt really interested in it. He might play it to show it, but probably wont make it a regular series.
DEI is definitely harder. When I was fighting Macedon in my Rome campaign, as soon as I defeated their army and left their city vunerable, they instantly moved another army there. Never happened to me in vanilla before.
So I really enjoyed this mod, but I was looking to disable it so my roommate can play vanilla since they are new to TW. I unsubscribed from the mod from Steam, but it still loads up DEI mod. Anyone able to help me by telling me how to get rid of it? Thanks.
heya heir. pls can you sally force for some battles, because i will get very bored of just seeing battles taking place in cities, rather than open field battles
had 2 elephant units in one battle before, was picking a fight with some afican tribe (lower nile region) with Egypt. i think both units got like 1000-1200 Kills. but alas the sheer Number of aficans killed them :( (so i had to kill them with my Galation swords)
here is another great tip for all DEI players :::: place your army outside your city with only one step far and make them patroling (the new stance =extra money and public order) then right click to get them into the city =(more money and public order)
Supermegawaffle Depends. Normal pikes don't do so well, but recruit some good ones give them all the upgrades and level ups and then assign them a chokepoint to hold and they will absolutely MASSACRE the enemy while losing barely 20 guys in the process. I've had my Leukaspidai kill 2,000 men while losing FIVE of their own holding a fort.
antred11 you're right. Some Pikes are complete trash. It matters you're quality of pikes and the quality of enemy troops. I said that from what I heard and my experiences with Levy pikes against Sparta. They completely destroyed my army. -_- Elite pikes are really good units too which I learned in the same battle.
Also Second Wind should be saved for the high point of a pitched battle, and used for the whole army not one unit. Where both your armies are tired and the battle could go both ways for instance. As it only brings the fatigue levels up to fresh for a short time then brings them straight to exhausted for any affected units.
Rome won't put up a fight. I played this mod as the Nervii, and Carthage wrecked Rome in 60 turns without me having anything to do with it. and yes, I saw the "rome fields more armies" message This mod is so overrated. The majority it does it takes from TTT, and it then adds a performance decrease and long load times to it
I am enjoying the hell out of this series thanks for making a DEI Carthage campaign!
36:45 "We can now come around for a proper ramming" - Heir, 2015
That's what she said
Heir, you should keep your hoplites in phalanx most of the time. I'd say all the time, unless they're pursuing. Units can run and charge in phalanx now, and their charge bonus and attack power are insane. Treat your hoplites like normal infantry and they'll be unstoppable early game.
Broreale Hi I'm totally new to this game and have quite a few hoplites. I was wondering what you mean when you say "treat them like normal infantry?"
angelfire1987 Like you would sword infantry i think. Only do this in DEI though, i'm not sure that it would work in vanilla. Welcome to Total War :)
angelfire1987 Yes, only do this to hoplites in Divide et Impera, not the vanilla game. And I meant sword infantry, yes. This made me realize just how much better the Rome 1 soundtrack was, it still fits perfectly too.
Why do I freak out everytime I see a new Carthage campaign video ? and it's an hour long !! you're awesome heir
This is my new favorite series like Saturday morning cartoons thanks for the great video Heir!
New to Heir's channel and listening to his Carthaginian ranting as a (wannabe) Roman through and through. Very enjoyable, Roma Invicta, looking forward to more!
+Jake Hatton lol thanks! Hope you enjoy the videos.
Thanks! Will do! You made me feel like doing a Hannibal at the Gates campaign again. You'll be happy to know I'm playing as Syracuse and Carthage isn't doing too well (just a couple of transport fleets and no settlements) :)
Also, does DEI work for the expansion packs? Or is it just the Grand Campaign?
very very funny episode, good job Heir, can't wait for the next episode
oh when you told us this would be only once a week I was a little sad about the wait between episodes thinking they would all just be twenty minutes or so, but this is nice.
keep being awesome and keep posting amazing total war videos Heir :)
This mod is so good, it makes battles like 40 minutes great video btw
Watching this I got the worst case of deja vu. To the point where I had to skip around in the video to make sure I hadn't seen it before. I feel as if he's played on that exact map using that set-up with the fortifications before...
Yes that because he had played on this map with the same units last episode 😂
I do believe the elephants go 'Berserk' on contact, which is different to "Running Amok" in that they won' hurt friendly units.
Legatus Marcus really? shit i can totally play my DEI Seleucid campaign totally differently ahah
Thanks for the info :)
You should keep doing Rome II, in my opinion, it will never get old.
Keep it up heir, great series
Aww, no more kentucky fried Heir...:(
Legatus Marcus It is just a bug in Yotubr that happens on random videos
***** Just a little bug it is
And Heirs KFC accent is great :)
that was an interesting glitch he didn't even notice. he won the naval battle but still lost every single one of his ships
HeirofCarthage if you're loving this campaign you'll thoroughly love any Attila one using Radious' unit and total war mod.
Still 360p, so wait for better quality...
Nice series heir ;)
could you have an arverni campaign or any barbarian factions in either rome 2 or attila?
Yes. The Turds return.
Matthew Stanley Do you mean "The Revenge Of The Turds" ?
You should do these more than every once a week.
It'll ruin the excitement :)
Can't wait for the next episode in another 2 weeks
this mod is awesome. I started it cause i saw the first vid and I'm having so much fun
Almost everything in DeI has missiles. Just started a campaign with Mamlakatin Saba and even the crappy Arabian spears have bows.
Heir, always enable Flying Wedge before charging your general into the enemy. You don't want to miss out on those extra charge bonus points.
I know you're concertrating with commentry but it would be nice if you would zoom in more to see the combat, was reallying intrested on how the "greek swordsmen" looked. Don't misunderstand though great series :)
Hey love you threw it back to total war 2
Heir the reason that the javelin men were wavering was because some of the units that boarded the ship stayed on killing them even after their ship sunked
i am going to clean my room now and to reward myself afterwards i am going to watch the second part of the Carthage campaign
very nice battle, the last one,
Keep them coming.
Daemon Blackfyre agreed, you have to decide between replenishment and public order. :)
Daemon Blackfyre I know what you mean but it is also a matter of personal preference and what is more recordable. 30 minute battles and only being able to afford 1 army while tediously maintaining public order doesn't always make it fun to watch. Daemon Blackfyre Ya I agree, Hes still getting all the bonuses but none of the negatives of most of the new features, both in battle and campaign.
If or when you can make more of these videos plz.
So Heir, I have not played any of the Total War since Rome I. I want to buy one of the newer one and play some multiplayer, which version should I buy? Atilla, Rome 2, Shogun 2 ? What is considered the best out of them and where are most players?
Play Shoooooogun 2 it's the most polished and has the most features
Michael Axiomakarou How is it's multi though? Are there people still playing it?
Skretek112 Shogun 2 is easily considered the best one, great multiplayer, great DLC, great singleplayer
If you are looking for a total war game, which are playing the most gamers, you should buy rome 2
Playing along dei mod with this however by turn 3 i had slums everywhere. any ideas why? pretty much matched this move for move. I also had some rebellion that Syracuse put down for me. strange.
I prefer rome 2 over atilla
Same here
***** If they could combine the recruiting and construction mechanics of Rome 2, while having the buildings are outside of the city deal from Shogun 2, mixed with the family tree thing from Atilla, and adding the- you get the point, combine the best innovations of each title and throw 'em all in a melting pot. That is what we need.
Jacob Johnston Just curious, why? I much prefer the Rome 2 time period but Attila has campaign depth Rome 2 could not ever hope for.
SPLegoStudios (Phoenix Studios) After CA cleaned up most of the bugs in Rome II it became a genuinely enjoyable game, whilst Attila still has that stupid Testudo bug (to my knowledge) which can cripple your, otherwise perfect, strategy.
roma surrectum 3 is far more deep strategic game
Why some flags have different icons? at 44:34 we can see a sword icon surrounded by a circle, and a sword surrounded by a square. can anyone explain?
circle means "light" and "square" means heavy [infantry]
+Ngài MCProGaming sword means infantry btw :$
yeah, I figured that swords stands for infantry, but what does it mean when the circle / square is half orange? and how does medium infantry icon looks like?

I downloaded the main mod but couldn't figure out exactly which of the submods you're using. Could you list which submods you've downloaded for this amazing new campaign :). Thanks I appreciate it and keep up the great work!
He does, they're in the description of the first episode I think
LHommeDeCave
Yeah he puts the link to the 19 submods but I'm wondering which he uses.
*****
I know that's why I'm asking which ones he does use.
Ultra fast combat, English names restored, reduced upkeep cost, no PO penalty for garrison troops. I think that is all.
HeirofCarthage
Thank you so much!
1071 kills... from nearly uncontrolled berserking elephants. *jaw dropped*
Why 360p. Lol someone had to say it
How does his slingers have so much ammunition (~40)? In my DeI, my slingers only have 15 or 20 ammunition.
He edited the .txt files for the mod or something. He mentioned it in the first episode.
Do this series daily pls
Yea! Hail the mighty Carthage
What screen recorder do u use? And edit u use?
Mushy, brown, disgusting, corn filled defeat
Lol
How do you minimize the HUD, putting it into a cinematic mode without going into unit can
K I believe if I can remember correctly
Oh 360p? Damn
TotalMadnessMan Oh, the sadfulness!
Rush4in Yeah gotta wait for HD :p
Dasagas is gonna be where it's at.
why is every video in 360p? is there a way to change this?
Chris Hummel yes, its called waiting
What is TGN army and how do you get in
At the last battle, the skirmishers were out of skirmish mode
are you going to play Total war Arena heir???
Curtis Cross He talked about it in one of his recent rome 2 multiplayer battles. He said he isnt really interested in it. He might play it to show it, but probably wont make it a regular series.
gg. Rome2 starting to look playable, pity still no working senate.
Heir , Vanilla or DEI ? challenge speaking ?
DEI
DEI is definitely harder. When I was fighting Macedon in my Rome campaign, as soon as I defeated their army and left their city vunerable, they instantly moved another army there. Never happened to me in vanilla before.
DEI is the best mod for realism
52:30 u told your slingers to attack a unit then that unit routed and they followed
can you put a link of where u finded this mod?
Steam
1 episode per week, I can see this dei campaign last for a few months if not a year lol
It will speed up eventually :)
So I really enjoyed this mod, but I was looking to disable it so my roommate can play vanilla since they are new to TW. I unsubscribed from the mod from Steam, but it still loads up DEI mod. Anyone able to help me by telling me how to get rid of it? Thanks.
Yep, I think that this is my favourite campaing now.
Glad you enjoy it. Thanks!
please continue other campaign
im trying to buy or build my own gaming rig but i have no idea what im doing. somebody help please. i would appreciate it.
What religion did Carthage believe at this time?
Carthaginians believed in phoenician gods such as Ba'al, Tanit and so on.
"Crap dang it" - HeirofCarthage 2015
i still like it
What mod is this?
heya heir. pls can you sally force for some battles, because i will get very bored of just seeing battles taking place in cities, rather than open field battles
Yea I can try that. Though it is easier to bottle them up in a settlement. Too bad most settlements look the same :(
had 2 elephant units in one battle before, was picking a fight with some afican tribe (lower nile region) with Egypt. i think both units got like 1000-1200 Kills. but alas the sheer Number of aficans killed them :( (so i had to kill them with my Galation swords)
More!!!
why is on 360p
the fact that he doesnt curse makes me uncomfortable
here is another great tip for all DEI players :::: place your army outside your city with only one step far and make them patroling (the new stance =extra money and public order) then right click to get them into the city =(more money and public order)
wooo in before HD!
These r fun
360p?
thechosenonenumber It's rendering...
i onece killed 1200 enemys with my elephants. i was like :o thats a lot of lvls :D
I love this shit
I have Rome Total War 1. Funnily enough you are using the music to it. Nice hacks lol
Karthago delenda est!!!
@#@#@# HOW DO I GET 160 MEN IN 1 UNIT,,,,,,,,,??????????????
Heir if you want a falcata I'm a blacksmith
Pikes are complete trash in DeI. Love the series too.
Supermegawaffle Depends. I said that from what I heard and my experiences with Levy pikes against Sparta. They completely destroyed my army. -_- Elite pikes are really good units too which I learned in the same battle.
Would u like to play online against computers some.time
Skirmish doesnt really work. Its useless to use it really.
Also Second Wind should be saved for the high point of a pitched battle, and used for the whole army not one unit. Where both your armies are tired and the battle could go both ways for instance. As it only brings the fatigue levels up to fresh for a short time then brings them straight to exhausted for any affected units.
Blood thirsty elephant's.
Cant deal with 360 😡😡😡😡😡
turditani XD
720!!!!!!! :D:D:D:
1st comment o.o
Lets get a big cluster.. crap going here....i know you do not cuss but that seems like such a bad cover xD
to long
Rome won't put up a fight. I played this mod as the Nervii, and Carthage wrecked Rome in 60 turns without me having anything to do with it. and yes, I saw the "rome fields more armies" message

Leaving your armies inside towns reduces public order. Kind of cringey to watch.
Rome was inginuitive but not original they stole a lot of greek ideas
