Thank you for being so transparent on this topic. I think we all have the “I wish I was this homeschooler “. I wish I was the homeschooler that did field trips more often and read a louds. With toddlers in the mix it’s not so easy to do right now.
I wish I could do all the fun crafts and sensory activities with my preschooler but we get caught up in routine and forget to do the more interesting things sometimes!
I too forget to include the fun activities sometimes. Also I don’t do a lot of preschool fun activities because of the amount of time and work that goes into my older kids homeschooling.
Not sure what state you’re in but it took awhile for me to find a program that helped paid for curriculum here in Indiana. Many people are anti-school choice in the local community so it took a lot of effort to find. I know they’re in Idaho too.
I also live an hour or more away from most opportunities. I can totally relate to that. You spend $1200-1300/year?😳 My first year I spent $450. After that I have always spent $300 or less. I can't fathom spending over a thousand dollars. We use the library and notebooking for a lot of our learning. Good for you for trying to branch out and grow to do better for your children. That's a fantastic trait!
I have always spent that amount per year too. I don't know how people can spend less. Hehe. A lot of times Literature based homeschoolers spend a lot on books. That has been the homeschool style we chose from the beginning (6 years ago). I can't use our library because where we have lived, they never had the books I needed for the curriculum I used. And it is mentally very difficult for me to keep up with life and illnesses, chronic pain, homeschooling two kids and a household to maintain... to add scheduling our history, and literature to our library loans! I just can't do that. I admire the moms who do. So... I buy used and new books, depending on what was the better or best deal for our Bilingual Homeschool. That being said, a good chunk of our money goes to great quality curriculum such as Logic of English which is very pricey but so worth it. In the end, I am short on money for other things such as spending money for myself. I have literally one lipstick. That is it. LOL. So... Depending on people's priorities... people can freely decide how to best spend their money.
@@numbersandstars I put my comment here mostly for people who are considering homeschooling that see this video and hear how much she spends and that "you can't homeschool using just a library card no matter what anyone says". That quote from her is a lie. I wasn't going to call it out like that, but it's true. Obviously her family has more money available than mine. Which is great for them, but people need to know it can be done much cheaper. I could homeschool for the whole year with $100. I could go cheaper if I needed to. If there's a will, there's a way. I completely agree about priorities. That's why we are able to homeschool. It's a priority for us. We are poor. My husband made less than $25K last year. Spending $300 is a lot of for us, no matter what it's on. We don't spend money on make up, vacations, or other luxuries. Spending $1K+ on curriculum is completely off the table. For families like mine, we have to budget tightly. Which means spending $300 or less on curriculum per year. We don't buy clothes new, nor furniture. We don't own our home because we can't afford to save up for a down payment. The list goes on. As far as curriculum we use the ideas of literature based curricula, and make our own. We use the resources around us, including the library. This saves us a ton of money. It's still literature based, we just don't use the exact resources since they're not available. I have a lot going on too. I struggle with bipolar disorder. That makes daily life difficult most of the year. I also am homeschooling 2, while caring for a 3 month old. Everyone has stuff going on in their lives. The thing is though, even through all of this and all the things we don't have: we have what we need and God always provides. We are always able to get the things we need to care for and educate our children.
@@mamaofthree8585 I appreciate you sharing your thoughts on this. I think every family situation is unique to their family and what may work for one may not work for another. I share my homeschool budget as an example of the many possible situations in the homeschool community.
Great video! I've definitely been MIA but we're on break this week so I have time to catch up. 🫣 I wish I was the homeschooler that woke up before my kids and got tons of stuff done before everyone rises for the day! 🥴 But life is in seasons and that's just not my life right now. One twin sleeps through the night and the other is up 3-4 times throughout the night. Mama needs her rest! 😅 I also wish I was the homeschooler that could do all the things but I have to be realistic about my capacity and time commitment for everything.
I love the Mama Librarian, too!

What a nice video to wake up to this morning! ❤ I definitely have my own inner “the homeschooler I wish I was” thoughts!

Thanks for the suggestion!
I wish I was the homeschooler who did all the field trips. We do take field trips, but not every month (travel, cost, and time to take effect).
That’s a good one! We only do a handful of field trips throughout the year.
❤

I too wish that! My kids sleep through the night but I still have to drag myself out of bed every morning 🥱
