  • Using a 2009 Chevy Aveo I show you how to change the thermostat in response to a P0128. This 1.6 engine is found in many vehicles such as the 2002-2011 Suzuki Swift, Pontiac G3 etc so this how-to guide should be applicable to those vehicles as well.

    Thanks for the video. Really helpful. I changed the thermostat (just the thermostat, and not the housing) on my Vauxhall Astra estate 1.6, 2013, and fixed the problem. The cooling fan had been running permanently and I had an error message on my dash saying 'service vehicle soon'. Now all fixed and didn't need to reset the error code either.
    Thermostat part cost me about £45 online. One garage quoted me around £250 to fix it. What a con! The work only took me about 45 minutes, start to finish.

      Not always is the thermostat tbf:
      when fan kicks in non stop or doesn’t turn on while the coolant boils up one of the four errors could be the culprit
      1- engine coolant temperature sensor
      2- expansion tank sensor
      3- radiator sensor
      4- the thermostat
      - Bleeding procedure turn on the cabin ventilator at full heat and high speed leave the coolant expansion tap on.
      Hopefully this will help alot of ppl from being ripped of in future

    My coworker has a 2011 Chevy Aveo, overheated, got a flush, and its still happening. Helped him get a new lower hose (recommended), and thermostat. Thanks for the video! I'll be doing the work for him, so this helps a ton, looks pretty straight forward.

    We just pulled one of these today and you can also use a 12-point 5/16 inch socket to get those four screws on that housing off. It fit perfect

    You made this Look So Easy except for dropping your screwdriver twice. Good video I'm going to be doing the same thing this Saturday. What is with those oil droplets in the reservoir before you added fresh coolant? I got those in my 2009 Chevy Aveo. I thought somebody put brake fluid or oil in the radiator Reservoir. That thermostat look like it with brand new did you test it? What happens if the thermostat is stuck closed. Mine doesn't overheat but all the water disappears and when I add water it just goes in the reservoir and nowhere else. Until I run the engine. The top radiator hose on the right side near the coolant reservoir doesn't suck in any water.

  • @daundunn638
    @daundunn638 Год назад

    With oil in the radiator reservoir the is an oil seal leak .it is most likely at the oil cooler housing needs a gasket.the reason I know this is my car is a 2009 aveo 5 hatchback.and mine is doing the same thing..if you get your oil changed at Valvoline make sure they do not overfill with oil because if they do this

      Oil in the coolant tank is usually the oil cooler I changed mine for £35 but be careful as I had to change the radiator aswell as the oil blocked it up.

      The thermostat is the housing

    • @tanuow

      In this particular car the thermostat is built into the housing hence it’s so expensive compared to just a thermostat.

    • @LehewTech
      @LehewTech  5 лет назад

      The AC will not work if the CEL is on. A stuck-on thermostat will not cause a misfire. Is there a coolant leak or has the engine overheated?

      I mixed once in an s10 and it said universal but the truck blew up 3 days later maybe it was just a lemon because I didn’t own it long but the shop who sold it to me said that’s what happened although I doubt that because why was it low in the first place
