    Thanks for the garden updates. We are having problems with rabbits this year. They have chewed our fence gates to make a gap and several tunnels under the fence. We know they are trying to get away from the foxes we see occasionally but they are no safer with our dog Maggie. She's gotten a few before they could get out.

    Agreed, incredibly challenging year due to weather and increased pest pressure. Your poor pear tree! In addition to voles, rabbits, and deer, I'm seeing a spike in the slug population. From a few towns over in Hooksett.

      Hi neighbor! I've definitely seen a bunch of slugs too, but so far they're not causing me too much grief

    Seems like the rat snakes are keeping my voles at bay for the moment. I've had to fence and tulle and net practically every space I'm growing in to keep the deer and rabbits out. Very frustrating indeed...

      Was neat, I looked on a map and your town is just about PERFECTLY due north from me (7 hours away). We're in Deerfield, NH.

    You’ve really expanded your garden and I’m sure a lot will still grow. How much area do you have now for gardening?

      Hi Cathy! The fenced vegetable garden is about 1000 sq ft. It's hard to say exactly how much land I'm using total with the orchard and berry patches, but I would say it's getting close to 1/4 acre

    Maybe some owl houses and then perhaps the voles or moles will be food for the baby owls . Say bye to mice to . Leave some compost in the middle of the land so the owl can see the mice feed from a perch you provide . Raspberries love rich acidic soil . Your blue berries look awesome . Buy local older trees for fruit soon and when a tree is pruned then you have to look after it for the rest of your life . I do not top or prune my fruit trees . I will take off dead from the tree and i get lots of fruit . Hunting is a good way to bring down deer numbers that being said burnt bones spread in the deer trails may deter the deer but other critters may show up .Long ribbon swaying will make dear and rabbits nervous . Different colors and 5 feet long the ribbon . Hang where dear are coming before the food they seek . You are smarter than a mole , deer and other creatures .leaves , wood chips one year old , kitchen waste , coffee grounds , dead fish , kelp , waste from the grocery store or farmer market , saw dust from saw mill and just about any bio mass will make good soil lay down in 5 inch layers . top of with bio char and wood ash will keep the bugs feeling unwanted . Good piece of land you have . Cheers fellow earthling and may this fine you well your fellow earthling Howie .

    Did your fig tree come back this year? I hope so! I think I may have seen it but I didn't hear you mention it.

      @OakKnobFarm  Год назад +1

      Sadly, no, it didn't come back. I think for any future attempts at figs I'll need to have them in pots and put them in the basement over the winter

      @@OakKnobFarm Dave....I DO have air rifles and NO 'pests'. What the badges don't know about saves on meat budget and court time.
