This is the first video I've seen that has really shown me how to set up my filter without all the hype. Fantastic. Many thanks 😀
You're very welcome, it's the first video kickoff to the new youtube channel. Be on the lookout, a follow up video will be out soon showing how to dig it into the ground and also how to do a complete cleaning of the filter media.
I agree! So much run around and no-one ever explains ANYTHING!
Shut the pump off first before using the diverter switch. It is best to take the pads out and wash them off then set in sunlight to let the rays kill the tap chlorine. Backwashing flushes out the bacteria formed at the bottom of the filter that eat the waste. Use a separate UV light too.
Sure would have been nice to see the inside of that filter (guts that is). Big oversight !
what made you decide on this brand of system. I moved into a house with a Pond allergy in place. It has a "Biotek 5" system in, from what I can learn it is plumbed in reverse. From a lot of trial and money spent, I am slowly figuring this out. the only system that I can find that is sold locally is the Laguna system that you have shown. I don't want to spend another summer standing in the pond cleaning it. the system that you have shown seems like a no brainer, pretty easy to set-up and use. I was just wondering how you came to settle on this brand? thanks so much. Great video.
Matt
You did not mention what size pump goes to the filter
You'll want to use a pump that corrosponds with the GPH of the filter.
Wicked pond
Cheers for a great vid
+Gregs Adventures12 thanks!
How do you know when to stop running the waste water hose? Does the water turn clear then you switch the valve back to the pond flow outlet?
Yes, the water at first will come out looking like sludge. Once it clears back up you can switch the valve back.
Good job
I know you posted this video long ago but hopefully you can still help me ! 😭🙏 I have a pond with a 3 tier waterfall that stopped working ... so we're replacing the pump & filter the filter was a Laguna 1400 & the filter was a 2750 flow? Something like that ... my question is on your filter that in the video where the water is spitting out is that we're you attach the hose so your waterfall will flow ?
Your filter should come with a length of flex able hosing, you can use hose clamps to connect the hose coming off the outlet of your filter to the inlet on the top tier of your waterfall. You may have to make some sort of a manifold or connection out of PVC pipe depending on how the top tier is setup. If you shoot me a message on our facebook page: facebook.com/DIYourselfDad/ I can probably help you a bit more as I can post pictures for reference over there. Thanks and good luck!
Do I need both of them or just the canister? Thx
You need both, the canister is the filter, you still need a pump to get the water through it.
Any opinions on using this for an indoor aquarium? What is the noise level?
You really wouldn't hear anything because the pump is submerged, the pump is pretty large though, how big of a tank are you running? There are pressurized pump setup that are designed for aquariums that will probably fit your application better.
what size pump? GPH are you running on the 1400?
+Eric Petrosino currently Im running a 1600gph pump
Is this available for a smaller pond overseas? I like it but is too big for me but would possibly do 2 ponds?
These type of filters are are available in many different sizes. What size is your pond?
One is 1200L 2 others are 300L each Thank You for instant reply so good!
Nice man, check out my 100,000 pond I recently set up a new pump and filter similar to what you have and its working great
how do you get the fish to not go up the hose?
Is the UV bulb easily replaceable?
A couple of screws on the top and you can get in and replace the bulb. It's a standard UV bulb.
DoItYourselfDad Can you post a video on replacing the bulb?
Any tricks to clamp on the pressure flo, as it cannot hold the clamp after i seat put in the o-ring
I haven't had any issues with mine, but in other things I've done where I've had trouble getting clamps or O-rings seated I've tried using petroleum jelly.
UV light? Is that seperate?
The UV bulb is part of the filter.
how know the uv is it funtion ? can make other vodeo?
There’s a little window on top that you can view the bulb through.
how do I take off the top the lid on the 1400 UVC
+Joseph Plantamura There is a snap ring around the top of the filter, you loosen the snap ring (requires no tools) and then the entire top of the filter comes off exposing the filter media and bio balls that are inside. I've had mine apart a couple of times since installing it to clean it out.
what diameter hosing for this filter/pump
These filters will run hoses from 3/4 to 1 1/4 inches. I would recommend the largest diameter hose you can run to cut down on restriction in the line.
Where can I buy this in uk
I picked mine up on Amazon. Here's a link to it on the UK site: www.amazon.co.uk/Laguna-Pressure-Performance-Pressurised-Steriliser/dp/B00TA6BY64/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1536029152&sr=8-3&keywords=laguna+pond+filter
