What are your thoughts on using both a pressurised and a box filter? I’m thinking of buying a pressurised filter to replace an old bog standard box filter, but thought I could somehow use both of them in sequence, rather than throwing the old one away. I.e the pump would feed first into the box filter (and do most of the work) and then I connect the outlet from there to the inlet on the pressurised one so it can do a final cleanup so-to-speak.

The pressurized filter would need to go first, as the box filter is a gravity return and could not then feed into a pressure filter. In essence, there is no harm in doing this. the pressure filter would do most of the heavy lifting mechanically so it would be important to get a decent filter with an easy clean feature, whilst letting as little particulate matter through as possible, such as the OASE filtoclear shirleyaquatics.co.uk/product/filtoclear-pressure-filter/ or even the cheaper OASE biopress. Other filters often tend to allow particulates through so as not to impede the water flow. The box filter would then be supplementing the biological filtration and would need little cleaning. You could add a fine floss filter pad to the box filter for fine polishing, or replace the foams with a higher surface area plastic media for additional biological filtration such as K1 plastic media
