Hey Caleb, please do, I am sure you would make some great content with it. It would also be cool to see how your editing system handles the 6K files. Thx for checking out the vid.
This mode can be interesting for re-framing in post. Especially if you need room to move the frame up and down. I actually made some tests with the camera in portrait mode. You can do something like a dolly-zoom with the converging lines if you do a pan move up or down and keep an object like a building constant in the center of the frame when re-framing in post. Looks like a shift lens that is shifted while filming. One problem is, that there is more danger to get moiré in this mode.
Hi Ulrich, yes I definitely did a lot of re-framing during the edit. That's good to know regarding the potential "moire" issue. One of the reasons I did this test is I was considering shooting part of my weddings in 6K. I have a wedding in a week and I will probably do a few 6k shots through the day and see how they turn out.
@@StoryDrivenFilmmaking If you put a camera with a wide angle on a fixed location and let it run you can pick unforeseeable situations a bit better. You also have more space to follow moving persons in post. Actually, I think this will be the most important use case for 8k in the next years if the camera has 8k (and can take a whole event without overheating). Re-framing in post will be more important anyway because 360° cameras are offering this feature in a great way. Have you considered 360° cameras?
@@Ulrich.Bierwisch I have only used a 360 camera once. I had a business idea about 4 years ago. I was going to start a side wedding business where I would set up 360 cameras in the front row of a wedding (I would not attend those events I would just have someone set up the camera and then come pick it up after the ceremony). The pitch to potential clients was going to be after their wedding they could sit down and experience their wedding ceremony just like one of their guests. I sold one package and actually did it. The couple liked it but I decided no pursue it further after that one event.
@@StoryDrivenFilmmaking If you look on the usage of 360° today, you will find that keeping 360° footage is not the interesting thing. The latest cameras like the insta360 one R have a fantastic electronic stabilization and software to take normal frames in post. This allows to put the camera on a stick that will be invisible and take drone like close up shots while moving the camera over heads or within crowds. They take everything in 60p and you can get the perfect camera angle in post. They are not that good in low light but there is a potential to get gimbal shots with a heavy moving camera to a total different level. I think this re-framing in post is so important, because you don't need to get the perfect angle of view in camera. In a lot of situations, you don't know when the important action will start and how it moves.
@@StoryDrivenFilmmaking please upload a short tutorial on how to do this. I have this camera and lens and never knew i could do anamorphic mode without that type of lense.
Beautiful 🤩 Getting ready to shoot a docu on 6K . Have u used it with an external recorder like Atomos Ninja V? Does it get black screen when you hit record ? Also , is this CineD profile ? Thank you !
Hey costa did you ever find any info on how to use a external monitor with gh5 6k anamorphic mode? My ninja inferno gets a display in 6k mode but once I click record my ninja inferno goes black and doesn’t show a display of what I’m filming
But were you using an anamorphic lens (I don't think so as aspect ratio). So you set it to use the whole sensor? It was gorgeous. Nothing more cinematic than sunsets, snow and rain! You got me good, cause my real personal passion is using haunting, beautiful music with appropriate imagery...and that was beautiful visually and the music was so whistful...wonderful! Those images were crispy. I have the 16mm for my a6400, but now realizing I should have the 16 and the 30 for the gh5 to not be hindered by lower light situations. That was a good one!
Hi Randy, thanks! Yeah, I tried my best to make that dreary day look good haha. And nope, no Anamorphic lens just the trusty Sigma 16mm. It's my little work horse. Regarding the aspect ratio, I was curious to see how the 6K Anamorphic GH5 footage would look if you used a non-anamorphic lens as I would potentially like to try using that mode for some of my weddings shots. I was really happy with the look. Even though it was dark out I didn't see any weird artifacts in the shadows (which I often see when shooting 4k 60p 8bit). The downside was the 6k is not easy to edit at all in its raw form (I had to create proxies). The funny thing is, I almost didn't upload this video as this is just something I always do. I love going out to film in the rain for some reason, I usually just put it on Instagram, but filming in the rain is so peaceful to me (and no one else is outside lol). Regarding to you getting additional lens (the 16 and 30mm) You know I am thinking of moving to all cine lens for my GH5 so all of my shots will have the same look. Thanks again for watching.
Hi Walsh, thank you. I can't wait to do some more testing with this mode. Did you have to create proxies to edit it or was your PC or MAC able to hand the files?
@@walshm8630 Oh ok. Yeah I thought my PC was powerful until I worked on 6K. I'm running 2 graphic cards (SLI), I9 processor, and 64gb of ram and I couldn't even play the footage in Davinci. I might do a test and see how Premiere handles it and then try it in Final Cut on my Mac as well.
great test! i definitely need to play around with the 6K anamorphic more!

So you shot it in 4:3 and scaled down to 16x9? I was able to watch in 2k in iPad with iOS 14 beta - looks great!
Hi Ted, thank you very much. Yep that is exactly what I did since I don't currently own a Anamorphic lens (shot in 4:3 and up-scaled).
