  • The Cemetery although overgrown contains many old headstones which vary from single upright headstones set into the ground, cross-shaped memorials, with a selection of enclosed (kerbed) graves, some with attractive railings. Some “table” or bevelled stones set into the ground covering the whole grave some of which are inscribed.

    The stone was for the son, child of the father and his wife, who died age 7weeks. No use of punctuation in those days

    Punctuation is everything! The lack of it makes the stone confusing but it’s for the 7 week old son of those individuals. 😊 The drs headstone was absolutely beautiful.

    What a fascinating cemetery. Although it was overgrown, I think all the greenery is very pretty. The church ruin was also beautiful in it's own way.

    It is sad to see what work went into to make beautiful these works for their resting place,bit nature does not stop. But what an honor and what you guys go through to find the graves and read and remember and you do it with such respect and love. Thanx i so enjoy traveling with each video .❤😊❤😊

    It makes me so sad when cemeteries and graveyards are basically forgotten. The one headstone where it said his wife 7 weeks make me wonder if it had been an arranged marriage for when she was older and so she was thought of as his wife. Great job on this video and the beautiful headstones. ❤❤❤

    great old place - the reading on the stone you didn't understand was this Sacred to the memory of Arbuthnot Ronald McTaggart, second son of W.B. McTaggart [ LUIT 14th Hussars and Amy his wife. [full stop] died 28th Aug 1872 aged 7 weeks

    I see now why there is a warning about danger from buildings in that graveyard given the state of the roof in the old church.The railings in the cemetery have been damaged by unwanted visitors from a big town over the years not all that far away.Thanks for the tour and again a lovely old graveyard.I live in Newbridge but it is in the Edinburgh area.The Curragh Racecourse cannot be all that far away from the Cemetery.A lovely place to live in away from the graveyard.

    This is what I love about your youtube channel and Sue's as well both of you have Great Finds in history and I see that the kids haven't spray painted graffiti on the walls of the old church and such history in the stone tells the story of the people of that town thanks for making this video

      Yes same in Australia we've got some very deadly snakes here and I need to remind myself when I see these that they don't have snakes. I believe it's the same in New Zealand

    The bent iron fence was probably from a fallen tree years ago. I can't think of anything else that could have done it otherwise.

    Magical looking place, but sad that it’s been mostly forgotten. It’s be nice if someone or several someones could go in with string trimmers and mow the weeds & grass & shrubs down

    The infant Ronald Arbuthnot died of diarreha 28th of August 1872. I think the inscription means that he is the son of W.B and Amy. The way the inscription is makes it confusing. Great find . Sad to see a graveyard forgotten about.

When I see a graveyard like that I'm always hoping to find someone of historical interest that migh get enough interest to have graveyard cleaned up. They are beautiful places and hold so much social history. I keep missing your lives as most times not getting the notifications. Enjoy watching though. Dont know if I can mention website publicly.

    We as humans erect these monuments and sadly the cemeteries are overgrown and the people lay in the ground in a rotten wooden coffin there bones disseminated and forgotten to time.🤨🙄😒😏😮

    beautiful but very overgrown glad you didn't fall somewhere in those weeds , the doctors tombstone was beautiful , strange that man erected his own tombstone ? I suppose he he pre bought his plot ? loved tge iron work of those fences . what a shame they left this place to rot

    Fascinating graveyard, unfortunate that it is so neglected and overgrown. Perhaps one day, someone will clean it up, but I am afraid, that it will take a great deal of work, time, and money 💰 🤑 💸
    I do not know what to make of that 7 week inscription on that headstone, if you ever figure it out, or obtain any new information, please let us know. Also, I would really like to know, what bent those iron rods on those fences?

    There was a Scottish doctor, born April 29, 1667 and died February 27, 1735. John Arbuthnot , son of Rev. Alexander Arbuthnot and Margaret. That was the only family members I found.

    Going to these overgrown cemeteries, be careful of snakes and other creatures. Maybe you need to wear long boots.

    This graveyard is probably owned by the Church or England or Ireland. It doesn't belong to a city council. Because of the danger caused by the crumbling ruins, groundkeepers can't carry out any work there. It will be difficult to get permission to knock down the ruins. Some complain about overgrowth, but there are always good reasons why.
