I got tickets and went to the concert with a mohalk and my friends used to think I was joking when I said I liked John Denver. At that time everybody got to cool and thought JD just wasn't cool anymore, but I always stuck by him no matter how cool I thought I was. John I think you had to be one of the most beautiful people to ever grace the planet and I miss you

I first heard this in the made for TV movie "Sunshine" in '73 when I was 10. It was intertwined with the plight of a mother who was dying and would die of cancer. Made a tremendous impression on me. While no real obvious aspect of the tune lends toward that dramatic sensibility I can't hear it to this day without that connection coming to the fore.
On The John Denver Show, he sang this song with Danny Kaye and they sang it like they were in England and then Danny rolled up his pant legs to make a kilt and he sang it like he was in Scotland. It was so funny!
My favorite John Denver song is 'Rocky Mountain High' or 'Dreamland Express'. But this is so, so wonderfully pure, warm and genuine. John Denver was so 'real'. On another note, check out the Simpsons epi, 'Bart of Darkness'. Springfield is under a heat wave. A hippie is singing 'Sunshine...' on the sidewalk and a very hot, mad citizen punches him out. *lol*

A lady on PBS used this song to teach American Sign Language: I saw it, taught my nephews and they still remember those signs. Cool, eh?
