I've been a JD fan since he started (in fact John's dad was my dad's commanding officer at Carswell Air Force Base back in the early '60's) but I have NEVER heard him sing this one. What a hidden gem.
Just miss him…beautiful birthday wishes to his daughter. First time watching this November 2024. Merry Christmas to Denver family. Hope Anne is keeping well. ❤🇨🇦
Have been a fan since 1969. I was driving home & heard this song on the radio about the Rocky Mountains, which I have always loved! Couldn’t wait to get home & tell my hubby I heard this guy on the radio singing about the Rocky Mountains! Have all his recorded songs! Saw him perform in Tulsa twice & met him! Used his music for staff meetings at the camp which we directed. I’ve been to Aspen & I’m thankful for his heart, for his generosity, & for his music! Nothing like it before or since!
We are very fortunate we can listen to John's beautiful songs. He was a unique and an amazing talent. Sleep well John and thank u for ur beautiful music. ❤❤❤
It's a very rare talent to bring thousands of people to a standstill. To hang on every note and be immersed in the beauty of the music. JD was blessed with a voice that cut right through to your heart and soul. I was fortunate enough to see him in concert a number of times.
John Denver was my late husband most favourite singer and he played him constantly on Utube and CD's in the car. Since his death a year ago I have constantly played his music and it has been a comfort and helped me to feel closer to him. His words are beautiful and I have come to the realisation there weas noboby else like him. Linda Martin
I think of myself (ok…I know I’m not the only one, but I really believe this) as John’s biggest fan, but I’ve never heard this either! Is it from an album? Clearly I missed something. 😅 In any case, John, I’ll miss and love you forever. 🌹🙏🏻❤️☮️
One of the songs my dad used to sing and play on his guitar... he taught me to play when I was in my early teens. We both would sing and play together. He left us September 2017 at 93... miss you Daddy....
4 yrs later....my friend, jn wd, the feelings are ever stronger every day...10/18/20......God Bless You 'John Denver'..........RIP....my dear friend....LOVE>>>LOVE>>>LOVE...FOREVER..
John you were my hero and still to this day your loved by so many were are you when we need you now with your special mind your projects are needed now more then ever I love you ❤ gone but not forever forgotten. 💯❤️💜🙏
Denver is like Karen Carpenter and a few other singers who have preciously unique voices that impart a personal stamp to whatever they sing. This isn't 'better' than the Tom Paxton original, it is lovely because it is John Denver's voice singing it.
It's a lesson too late for the learning Made of sand, made of sand In the wink of an eye my soul is turning In your hand, in your hand Are you going away with no word of farewell Will there be not a trace left behind I could have loved you better, didn't mean to be unkind You know that was the last thing on my mind As I lie in my bed every morning Without you, without you Each song in my heart dies aborning Without you, without you Are you going away with no word of farewell Will there be not a trace left behind I could have loved you better, didn't mean to be unkind You know that was the last thing on my mind You've got reasons a-plenty for going This I know, this I know For the weeds have been steadily growing Please don't go, please don't go Are you going away with no word of farewell Will there be not a trace left behind I could have loved you much better, didn't mean to be unkind You know that was the last thing on my mind Are you going away with no word of farewell Will there be not a trace left behind I could have loved you much better, didn't mean to be unkind You know that was the last thing on my mind
I love him and his wonderful songs, sung by his great voice! I think, we all miss you John. But I believe we will see us one day again!RIP! I will never forget your songs!❤❤❤
John was and is the greatest singer of this generation. I loved him, his music and the life he lived. It was just so short. His music is a gift that always gives. He has shaped many memories in my life, my first boyfriend and I discovered him together. He passed in 2005. This so reminds me of him. His name is John too. Love you John both of you.
From Bandersnatch Coffeehouse, Denison University, Granville, Ohio, 15th March 1969 and from The Skip Weshner Show, KRHM-FM, Los Angeles, California, 23rd March 1970. John never recorded it. Enjoy the event at the Pacific Grove!!! -- Thanks and glad you enjoyed the video.
If you like this song, do yourself a favor; listen to the song, picture the person you love above all else. Now imagine the person you love has passed away unexpectedly. Now, because you still can, go share what's in your heart with that person. WOW WOW WOW!! - What a great find for a song I know so well and never heard John sing. Same as so many that I thought I heard all his songs. Almost like a new song, well at least it is for me. Miss you John, the world is so less beautiful without you.
As Dan King commented, I also had never heard John sing this song. It's a song I have loved for a long time and John does a beautiful heartfelt cover. Vocals are just outstanding and so much feeling put into the way he sings it and lovely arrangement.
You can hear how young he was when he recorded this. It was probably just following his time with the New Christie Minstries. He sounds like a folk singer. What a talented man he was!
I agree 100%. Paxtons version sounds too upbeat and without feeling. Denvers voice even cracks in a few places as it would if your love left, without a farewell, and no trace of them left behind. Oh man, so sad.
One day I may be able to listen to this without crying- but I doubt it (and hope not) !!!❤😢
I've been a JD fan since he started (in fact John's dad was my dad's commanding officer at Carswell Air Force Base back in the early '60's) but I have NEVER heard him sing this one. What a hidden gem.

Love John Denver. He was one of God‘s gifts to us all.
He was never given the credit he deserved for his guitar playing skills. One of the best.
My God.... how beautiful. I'm 65 now and this song brought me to tears... Been loving John and his music for SO MANY years since the early 70's...
John didn't write this, but his version is awesome
He lives on in each of us who loves John...❤❤❤ forever JD
❤💯
I am 73 years old. Still listening to his wonderful music here in Auckland, New Zealand. RIP John - you were a joy to the world.
Saw John do this at Red Rock will never forget the crowd dead silent till the last note fell then a standing ovation. Chills on chills.🙏

Linda...all of us who shared and loved Denver's music share a common bond in our appreciation of his talent.

I listen to his music nearly daily. He was a good man.
Yup! CD in my car now! Hit play as soon as I get in!
Ahh but this is beautiful... Really tugs at the heartstrings. Can only be John Denver... Great heartfelt interpretation... Unforgettable!
Beautiful voice & beautiful song! They both will live forever in American legend.

😢 John will never be forgotten.
I really miss him.He was a great singer. I am a Colorado native.
His soft voice has touched many lives and still continues to do even though he's physically gone. oh, dear john, such a blessed soul.
Such pain and sorrow in each note and phrase. Would that he was with us, appreciated for what his music meant to so many ~
This is surely the best version ever of this beautiful song. He is so sincere, almost sounds as though he is singing about a personal experience .
One of the songs my dad used to sing and play on his guitar... he taught me to play when I was in my early teens. We both would sing and play together. He left us September 2017 at 93... miss you Daddy....
The talent of John Denver will not soon be seen again. Relish what he left us.
Awsome song… i have played this song over and over its such a well written song that just brings u back to the 80’s

Sensitive man. I love his music, it's always relevant & relaxing. Love you John!

A FIND FOR ME AT 85....I WILL NOW SEEK THE LYRICS...I GOT ENOUGH TO BE QUITE MOVED.
It's a lesson too late for the learning
Made of sand, made of sand
In the wink of an eye my soul is turning
In your hand, in your hand
Are you going away with no word of farewell
Will there be not a trace left behind
I could have loved you better, didn't mean to be unkind
You know that was the last thing on my mind
As I lie in my bed every morning
Without you, without you
Each song in my heart dies aborning
Without you, without you
Are you going away with no word of farewell
Will there be not a trace left behind
I could have loved you better, didn't mean to be unkind
You know that was the last thing on my mind
You've got reasons a-plenty for going
This I know, this I know
For the weeds have been steadily growing
Please don't go, please don't go
Are you going away with no word of farewell
Will there be not a trace left behind
I could have loved you much better, didn't mean to be unkind
You know that was the last thing on my mind
Are you going away with no word of farewell
Will there be not a trace left behind
I could have loved you much better, didn't mean to be unkind
You know that was the last thing on my mind
