Have watched the entire series and it's been brilliant seeing Quentin being saved and put back on the road. Can't help but think you'd regret selling him.
How brilliant! Just so admire your commitment to Quentin! I know you've identified work to do, but what a wonderful story as to how he got to this stage!
I'm so glad the car is on the road with a lovely new roof. It deserves it. If it was an Escort cabriolet the same age then it would be worth more, yet (having owned both) the Rover is by far the nicer car with a much sweeter engine.
Wow, looks amazing, I think you should complete the whole restoration I.e the paint job, radio etc, the put him up for sale. So we can see the lot from start to finish
I've watched this series every episode and am so pleased it's turned out well for you. You've stuck at it when most would have binned it. Top job, top dedication 👍👍
Get yourself someone that looks at you the way Matt looks at old Rovers, and it will be a fairytale in the making for sure... I really have no relation to old Rovers, and I am not that into any particular brand or model of car the way you are, but your spirit is infectous. I was one of the ones who was worried about your will to give this struggling old girl a new life without getting totally fed up and selling before completion, already from the first video you got it. I now realise I need not have worried myself, this is a work of passion and heart! Thanks for all the entertainment, and congratulations. You deserve it.
Well done Matt. Quentin is an absolute credit to you and your hard work. It's been a real pleasure to watch you restore it. Many Thanks for sharing this journey!
Very pleased Quentin has lived to fight another day. Given the scarcity of these cars you have done the right thing and I'm certain that an enthusiastic new owner will be just waiting in the wings. Well done sir!
Just got my April edition of Practical Classics and noted a couple own a 1998 Rover 216 Cabriolet. In red. Since 2007 they’ve fitted a new door handle, and a new hood. That’s it. So You have saved a British classic from the scrappers without doubt... and you are not alone! Time to form the “Rover 216 Cabriolet owners club” maybe? There are at least two prime examples out there 👍
The car looks lovely in Red Matt. I don't like converrtabes either. here in Spain i get burnt to a crisp, though they are lovely open at night in hot summer nights
Really top effort on this project, well played! Watching this to occupy myself until Saturday, when my tomcat finally goes on the road after nearly 2 years of work!
On the rear window, I have a TVR and was recommend Aerospace 303 protectant. Using it protects from UV damage but also keeps the window supple enough to bend in all temperatures. Well worth a go.
I agree... Quentin was way too nice to scrap, and you’ve done a stellar job in bringing it back! What a smart-looking car. Congrats, and let’s hope it eventually finds a good home. I’ve really enjoyed this little saga.
I really want you to complete it because I know the end the result will be good. The red roof looks awesome. I think the colour of the wings seeped into your unconsciousness. From a convertible fan, leave the roof up. Great job.
Great stuff once again, looks great! What also destroys those back windows in the winter is the use of de-icer. For leather painting, the stuff from Furniture Clinic is great.
Nice one mate. I'm absolutely with you on the rear window thing.. If you remember my MK I Stag has a proper MK I 3-window hood (which I had replaced from its non-original MK II single window hood). However, I can't now lower the hood until the 1/4 windows are warm enough as they fold along two points and back on themselves (hence why MK II hoods only have the one window...). Which, of course, explains why (much as I might have wanted to) I couldn't put the roof down at all during the Beaujolais Run in November - even when it was dry & sunny...! However, as my car is LHD, that extra over the shoulder rear 3/4 vision is often worth its weight in the UK.
Quentin looks great. The hood looks superb and the interior looks very nice for a 25 year old car. If you can afford it I'd keep it for the summer then sell it next Spring.
Congrats from Spain, from a proud owner of a 214 Si 16v MY'95, and a 75 V6 MY'01. Quentin looks gorgeous! I bet you prefer my 214 dashboard with the tea shelf and the long wooden-look trim, don't you?
You deserve a medal for perseverance! For the respray if you can see examples of the £900 guys work and your happy use him otherwise if not your confident enough go for it yourself. Just don't use 150 rattle cans!
Yes you have shown remarkable fortitude & great patience, where most of us [even Rover 200 people] would have given up. The fuel pump saga was particularly painful; at least you didn't get the problem where the pump flange and outlet to the pipe work is misaligned though.
I’m honestly impressed with your stoic resolve. I thought you were gonna torch it at one point; mainly with the immobiliser. But it’s amazing that a British vehicle will be kept on the road. Awesome
Quinton looks stunning with his red roof, someone is going to be enjoying this when you come to sell it. Glad you kept with the project, it's paid off.
The red roof totally works with the silver. Quentin looks brilliant and most importantly he is now watertight which should make life a lot easier. So good to see him saved. I wonder if Stonecold would be interested, especially given the rarity?
Looks extremely smart Matt, glad you decided on the red it really does, compliment the silver paintwork and leather interior. Once it's had the respray it's going to be stunning.
Looks brilliant long spirit breaking job but you did it l had an xr3 cabriolet brand new out the box and loved it when the Rover came out I really wanted one . I have really enjoyed watching this particular journey so well done the hardest part is over John
I have fond memories of my mum's k reg 214i cabriolet, she loved that car, so much so that she wouldn't take it in to Birmingham for work in case the roof got slashed so she took dad's Carlton instead! I would love to have another one myself actually. Looks brilliant.
Quentin looks great with the new roof, count me as another who could not understand why you were persisting with this one. Well I think you have proved me wrong, especially as there are so few examples of this model left. Well done FD!
That burgundy roof looks amazing... I think maybe paying to get the paint done might be a better idea. If you do it at home then you're still going to have quite a lot of money in it for materials, so if it doesn't turn out well it's going to be a loss when you sell it or more time having to redo it again. If you pay to get it done then it's up to the people doing the job to create the right result, plus it'll take less time as a body shop won't have to wait on good weather to do it so you'll have the car back at a good time to advertise it for sale as spring is the right time to sell a soft top...
Wow, what a transformation. This car looks so good now, and with new paint Quentin will be absolutely stunning. I'm not sure I could sell him now, I'd be very tempted to sell one of the others and keep Quentin instead. Having both an R8 Coupe and a Convertible on the fleet would be an irresistible proposition.
Many moons ago, my dad an I visited the local Rover dealership to do something boring like visit the parts desk. Inside the showroom, they had a late 216 Cabriolet in top of the range SE spec. I never really liked the rollover hoop on these (nor the Golf, either), but my enduring memory is of the seats in that car, which were so sumptuous and special with their contrast piping. Seeing Quentin brought back to life, I'm reminded of that car. Who knows, maybe Quentin was that very car, posing in the showroom?
Well done for keeping going on this car, Matt, the roof looks great. There’s so much satisfaction in recommissioning an unloved car, I did the same with my Alfa 159. The blood, sweat and tears that go into this kind of thing make you fall in love with them and give them a personality that everyday cars just don’t have. Problem is, you get so attached it would be like selling one of your children and you would never see a profit anyhow. Suppose that’s my long winded way of saying, keep it and enjoy it, summers coming !.
Car looks good. Nice to see it saved. It deserves nice paint to go with the new roof. If the £900 respray really is a good job from a decent bodyshop then I'd go for that. Although that is incredibly cheap.
Looks fantastic Matt. You also forgot the shenanigans of breaking into the boot and the struggle with the immobiliser that went on for weeks. Well done for persevering. Just a pity I can’t find room for it.
Good to see it with the roof sorted. You like to live dangerously listing how it's now reliable and what's great about it...usually the kids of death with mine 😂😂😂
Here Is a good question within a few questions.. Firstly when you buy a convertible Like myself it was An Astra Convertible 2.2 petrol engine its a 52 plate. I have owned it 4-5 years average MOT its cost me close to £375 each mot. The last MOT 2021 its total cost was £720. But listening to your video its really costing lots.. So were do we stop spending on these cars.. Yeah mine in really good condition I have seen them go for sale around £2495 - £6000. Depending on Mileage and history. The bodywork on mine is damaged but I have never polished it to date.. So far I get the feeling I may never get my cash spend back but the longer I Keep it and find cash to get it 100% nice. It also has a £700 quid private number plate..
Hi Matt, what a awesome video, that roof suits the car perfect,I would have said red myself and done a brilliant job on it.shame you gotta sell it eventually.
Well done Mat looks really good all that hard work has definitely paid off. I reckon you can add undersealing Quentin to that list looking at previous videos. Well done again.
Congrats Matt! Looks good in the red! I did notice the passenger glass seems to be overlapping the roof and caught over it. Maybe it was done for filming but maybe the window needs adjusting slightly.
Matt not sure about you not wanting to let Quentin go ? Quentin won’t wanna go , new hood and carpets on the same day 😯 talk about spoiling him 😁, but seriously well done for sticking the course , looks amazing 👌🏻.
Its been a great series on Quentin, after all that I don't know how you can sell it.. I couldn't. Great stuff, best wishes. Don't ever sell 'The Gaffers' Rover in the garage, that's a keeper for life.
The way this roof looks, adds a lot of style and class to Quentin!Sorry you're gonna sell it,but I guess,a man's got to do what a man's got to do....In a strange way, after watching you wrestling with this car for so long,I also feel vindicated.Great work,Matt, keep it up!
I've DIY resprayed a couple of cars, both turned out fairly good. No way would I do a silver car and try to blend it at the door shuts etc, would be a nightmare
Looking good but still think blue would've been better. My inner Lawrence Llewelyn Bowen won't look past where the windscreen sun strip meets it :) Sorry. Still a brilliant job.
People were saying "I'd scrap it." but you hung in there and now you've got one of 30 cars left. As it is, it would be an easy project for someone who'll end up with an absolute minter that could be ready for summer.
Have watched the entire series and it's been brilliant seeing Quentin being saved and put back on the road. Can't help but think you'd regret selling him.
Massive respect to you for keeping Quentin on the road. I'd have given up long ago. He looks cracking.
I've got to say I'm pretty amazed at the way Quentin has turned out - no wonder you're chuffed!
Quentin wants so much to be on the fleet. That roof is amazing. Complete transformation. No dramas cos Matt knows a fellow.
How brilliant! Just so admire your commitment to Quentin! I know you've identified work to do, but what a wonderful story as to how he got to this stage!

Wow, what a transformation! I doubted that Quentin would ever get back on the road but sometimes I enjoy being proven wrong!
I like the red roof.
Incredible transformation, great job. You could have quit 500 times but you soldiered on, and I think the result is worth it
Oh, Well Done, Matt! Quentin is looking fantastic! It has been a long time coming, but the results are well worth it! Fantasic!
Very pleased Quentin has lived to fight another day. Given the scarcity of these cars you have done the right thing and I'm certain that an enthusiastic new owner will be just waiting in the wings.
Well done sir!
Thanks, I thought it was worth saving something so rare
You've done it! Congrats, I've enjoyed the progression of Quentin.
Just got my April edition of Practical Classics and noted a couple own a 1998 Rover 216 Cabriolet. In red. Since 2007 they’ve fitted a new door handle, and a new hood. That’s it. Put some pictures on the facebook group, its always good when a Tomcat is brought back!

I think it was them I was thinking of, Ive used it before
it looks like a nice little car now. The top really made a big difference. Good work!
Matt, what an amazing transformation. That roof is great. You should keep the car. All the time, sweat and tears in saving it. Great content 👍
Well done! Against all odds, you got Quentin finished! Looking forward to seeing him painted.......👍
I do! I have that in my Coupe and its so useful
In so glad you persevered with Quentin I would have give up. It looks really good.
This car is a real credit to you. You've put a lot of time and effort into it, someone's going to get a nice motor.
It'll be a shame to see it go but needs to make way for the next one
Hurahh! Quentin isn’t beating you up for a change. He looks great. Love the roof (hood). Congratulations!
Another Rover saved, well done !
You deserve a medal for perseverance! For the respray if you can see examples of the £900 guys work and your happy use him otherwise if not your confident enough go for it yourself. Just don't use 150 rattle cans!

That could have happened, its incredibly tricky getting all that lined up!
I’m honestly impressed with your stoic resolve. I thought you were gonna torch it at one point; mainly with the immobiliser. But it’s amazing that a British vehicle will be kept on the road. Awesome
That (or the fuel pump) were close to getting the matches!
@@furiousdriving 😂 it’s not very often that you lose your cool (on camera) but this one seriously pushed you
Quinton looks stunning with his red roof, someone is going to be enjoying this when you come to sell it. Glad you kept with the project, it's paid off.
Its worked out really well! Im properly impressed with how good it looks
Fantastic job and Quentin looks amazing, great job saving him and the roof in red really suits the car. You cant sell it!!!!!
£900 pounds for a full body respray sounds like a bargain, I hope it goes well for you.
Sounds like a flash over, at that price!
£900 respray wont seem like a bargain a couple of months down the line!!
During the Pandemic, they should be lucky to have jobs to do. So they have to lower the price, and they have to do the job properly.
Absolutely. I've just paid £240 to get my bumper professionally sprayed.
The red roof totally works with the silver. Quentin looks brilliant and most importantly he is now watertight which should make life a lot easier. So good to see him saved. I wonder if Stonecold would be interested, especially given the rarity?
Looks great. Love the red roof. Suits it nicely
It looks great. You might as well keep it for the summer, you’ve earned it . Well done!
But summer is the perfect time to sell a convertible!
That’s true. Just watched a bloke rattle canning a wing, looked great when he’d done .
The roof color matches perfectly with the front right fender. Consider that an unique stylish detail. Like Golf Harlekin, but classy.
Looks extremely smart Matt, glad you decided on the red it really does, compliment the silver paintwork and leather interior. Once it's had the respray it's going to be stunning.
I cant wait to get it done now!
Red Roof was a good choice. There has been lots of (LOW'S) with Quentin. I am Glad to see you on such a (High) at long last. 😊👍
Well done Matt - I've been following this car's progress with particular interest and it's great to see it looking so handsome again.
Looks brilliant long spirit breaking job but you did it l had an xr3 cabriolet brand new out the box and loved it when the Rover came out I really wanted one . I have really enjoyed watching this particular journey so well done the hardest part is over

I wasn't convinced by the red either, but quentin looks bloody brilliant. Looks a real credit to you 👍
Wow, what a transformation. This car looks so good now, and with new paint Quentin will be absolutely stunning. silver with a red roof , not a car colour pairing i would ever think of ... and it looks stunning , nice one
I’m so pleased to see this little car transformed!! Fabulous job!! 🙌🏼🙌🏼
Well done!! Looks great in that colour. Much like the Porsche boxter combo
Looking good. Think the roof matches the red wing really well... 😉
That was the aim!
Many moons ago, my dad an I visited the local Rover dealership to do something boring like visit the parts desk. Inside the showroom, they had a late 216 Cabriolet in top of the range SE spec. Who knows! I actually dont know where he started life..
Well done for keeping going on this car, Matt, the roof looks great.

That red roof looks absolutely fantastic! Can’t get over how far this car has come!
When the weather was bad you didn’t have a roof. Pick the car up with a new roof and the sun pop’s out! ☀️🤦🏻♂️ Well done looks great 👍
The Quentin effect...
Turned out very very nice the red roof sets it off well done
Roof looks stunning, love the colour! Great choice. I admire your perseverance.
Its turned out excellently, Im very pleased with it
gorgeous, it's indeed a good combo to have a winered hood on a silver car (well, minus the red front wing xD )
Great job I remember when you started and now the car is one of a kind lovely car it's a lovely car. Keep up with the good work
its looking good matt, cant wait to see it finished! hopefully it'll be done in time for summer(which is the best time to sell)
You got that colour combination so right, Matt! The roof guys have done an amazing job! Thumbs up all round 👍🏻👍🏻
It looks perfect to me!

Good call with the roof colour, looks amazing. It will be hard to see it leave the channel when you sell it.
What a difference the hood colour has made, definitely get it resprayed professionally it will make all the difference at sale time
Top job, nice to see how this has come along from what one might at one time have referred to as a knacker! 😄👍👏🙏
I'm not a fan of drop tops either but Quintin does look really good. Very nice job.
The new convertible hood really suits this car, deep red with silver looks amazing, good choice of colour x.
Hi Matt, what a awesome video, that roof suits the car perfect,I would have said red myself and done a brilliant job on it.shame you gotta sell it eventually.
All that hard work paid off matt , great content great channel !!! STAY SAFE STAY DRY..... 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧☕☕☕
Thanks, I had a freezing there was a good car hiding in there!
Looking good. If you let the professionals respray it then it will help more when you sell it.
Looking good with that new roof. Makes a really big difference on a convertible so has to be worth the investment.
Its gone from worthless to fairly valuable and definitely desirable at a stroke!
The red roof looks awesome and surprisingly high-end 👏🏼
Well done Mat looks really good all that hard work has definitely paid off.
I reckon you can add undersealing Quentin to that list looking at previous videos.
Well done again.
Yes, thats another job to do - as well as on the Mini and Volvo...Im going to be under cars and covered in goop alot this summer
Congrats Matt! Looks good in the red! I did notice the passenger glass seems to be overlapping the roof and caught over it. Maybe it was done for filming but maybe the window needs adjusting slightly.
It just needs nudging under or the window dropping a fraction when that door is opened so clear the seal, new cars do it automatically
Matt not sure about you not wanting to let Quentin go ? Quentin won’t wanna go , new hood and carpets on the same day 😯 talk about spoiling him 😁, but seriously well done for sticking the course , looks amazing 👌🏻.
You’ve done so well on this Matt . Congratulations to you 👍👍👍👍
well done on your complete dedication to the Rover
Great video good progress :-) continued praise and respect for your perseverance with all your cars.
Awesome job done to Quentin, after all that hard work, you can see the results.
Its been a great series on Quentin, after all that I don't know how you can sell it.. I couldn't. Great stuff, best wishes. Don't ever sell 'The Gaffers' Rover in the garage, that's a keeper for life.
WOW! It looks really good with the new roof 😎👍
Oh wow. It looks fantastic. You have to keep it at least for the summer!
The way this roof looks, adds a lot of style and class to Quentin!Sorry you're gonna sell it,but I guess,a man's got to do what a man's got to do....In a strange way, after watching you wrestling with this car for so long,I also feel vindicated.Great work,Matt, keep it up!
I hope you hit 50k and go on to the next milestone as you are my favourite RUclipsr. Even better than mustie1 so consider yourself honoured
Thanks!
I've DIY resprayed a couple of cars, both turned out fairly good. No way would I do a silver car and try to blend it at the door shuts etc, would be a nightmare
Is it really a rover if the project is never finished 😉 Great video.
Lovely roof you certainly persevered looks good.
Well done - looks smashing 👍👍👍 Selling it will be quite emotional......
I was only pondering about this video today and here it is thank God
Amazing what time and patience can achieve looks great and works.
I was sure it was a decent car waiting to get out!
Justifiable pride. You should enjoy this, you really put in the hours and the blood, sweat and tears, literally! Great vid.
