does the trail you went up (goat trail?) the same as trail 17e06.1 on some backcountry map? looks a little bit scary tho.

It definitely wasn't an officially-marked trail. Yes it's the Goat Trail (marked as I7E06.1 on Maps.me). It wasn't too sketchy but very steep

We hiked Mt Tallac at the beginning of June last year! It was perfect timing as the snow was gone
