Just found your channel. Thanks for all the great tips. I just started machine embroidery and will look for the Pellon wash and go. Also will look for sewing tables at ikea as we are converting a basement room into my sewing room. I got tired of never being able to find things, and my very patient husband is happy to have the dining room, kitchen and sunroom back after 3 years of quilting things everywhere! ThNks!
When I was looking for the backing, I found the panel still out there on the internet. You may have to use a couple of shops to make it work. Good luck!
Good Evening Becky . Happy New Year to you and your family. So nice to see you. I love your quilt and all the fabrics. You are so helpful, thanks so much.😃🌼
I just discovered your RUclips videos! I love them and enjoy your topics. I am originally from South Texas, 2 hrs south from San Antonio and I remember in December they were building the IKEA. I said cool! I subscribed yo your channel.
Hi Helga! Are you the Helga that sent Joy the pig? If so, I absolutely love it and want the pattern! It is so stinking cute! Happy New Year to you too!
I looked up the Getting To Know You pattern. AWESOME! I love BOM's and I always finish them. I am opposite of you in that. I feel like I'm going to get in trouble or something if I don't do my monthly duty. Plus, they are SO expensive! My Route 66 and Oklahoma quilts were BOM's. Cannot believe you already finished that new quilt kit. Love your new assembly line furniture idea. I want ALL my machines out and ready to use. When you have a separate space, you can do that. Your Tin Lizzie is so pretty with all of its artwork. I saw that alphabet quilt years ago, but didn't have a child to make it for. It is really cute. Gonna see if I can find it to make for Luke.
I diligently finished about 7 months of Getting to Know Hue which were the blocks around the outside of the quilt and then life just got in the way. I signed up through Lone Star Quilts up in Bryan, Tx so I had to pay shipping as well. I tried to cancel before the center shipped out and the lady had a fit so I went ahead and finished it. I saw the finished quilt top in person in Victoria, Tx on a shop hop one day and its GINORMOUS. Like king size +. The lady who made it looked haggard while showing it off and I certainly know why. But it was that quilt that really upped my game in the piecing dept. Luke will love the Hungry Animal Alphabet. That's one that he and grandma can play with together to learn his letters! Look in several stores online to find what you need. Some places have the panel but not the coordinating fabrics. Happy and blessed day to you Joy!
Happy New Year Becky! Thanks for the ideas for beginner quilters like myself because I get overwhelmed with all of the quilting things and not really knowing what to get to match the colors.
Pearl, when I come across a quilt I want to make that isn't yet kitted, I rely heavily on the quilt store ladies. Most of them thrive on helping customers put fabrics together. In my local store, one is great at matching colors, one is great at thread & pattern choices, etc. They love to help and love them for it! Thanks for watching!
Happy New Year, I am not a quilter. When Craftsy did the very first free BOM 2012 by Amy Gibson I really liked what she was doing, it looked very fresh. I bought 2 bundles of fat quarters I finished up to the blocks just before the hexagon and it is still waiting for me. I think it was maybe 6 blocks. I love the fabrics I will do it. When????? I am now retired so I really should have no excuse but here I am 😁 that’s me. Enjoyed your video thank you. Val 🇨🇦🇬🇧❤️
Hi Val! I did that BOM too with Amy Gibson. I followed her blog until she effectively stopped blogging. That was my first BOM and I still don't have it finished either. But I do have the entire thing in a clear storage box waiting for me, hense...my resolution! lol Thanks for watching!
What! Tin Lizzie went out of business?! Oh no! I have an 8 year old Tin Lizzie 18...no computer. I guess I should think about upgrading. I have been looking at the King Quilter since it really is a Tin Lizzie with upgrades. I have too much invested in all the items that only work with the TL to switch to a different brand. I am glad you have the King Quilter and like it. You’ll have to do a video of you quilting so I can see how it works. Thanks for sharing all this.
Hi Pam. I'm with you on not switching brands. That means my ruler table and spoon foot would be wasted money. I have the TL 18" Sit Down (no computer and it's not on a frame but in a table) and yes, the King Quilter. King Quilter is proprietary to Sewing Machines Plus and they provide any warranty work I might need. Problem is, they are CA and I'm in TX and I'd have to pay $400 freight to get it there and back. I have had a local guy come to the house once to do some minor maintenance and he said it's a great machine. I wouldn't upgrade unless you absolutely have to. The TL is an awesome addition to my sewing space. Thanks for watching!
As always Becky you made me smile. Loving the alphabet quilt, it is fun to look at. Oh I wish I lived close to you would have loved the table. But I think postage to the UK would be horrendous. lol Happy New Year to you x
Happy New Year! Still trying to get my house back to normal from Christmas and packing away all my ornaments. Had company and had to have my sewing room do double duty as a guest room, so no sewing. Probably start back quilting soon. Looks like you didn’t slow down much over the holiday. You really got a lot accomplished though. I can’t wait for Ikea to come to San Antonio. But I’m not going right away after they open either! It’ll beca zoo. But glad to have one closer than Round Rock. Hate that crazy drive!
I don't thing "zoo" even begins to come close to what that opening will be. The lines to get into the parking lot will be a 1/4 mile long I bet! The store is just 5 miles from my office and perhaps I'll go check it out in 6 months or so after the frenzy dies down. Because of the total cost of my furniture, the shipping was free so I'd be a fool not to use that. Glad you can get your house back together!
Hello. Peggy here in Pensacola, FL. Love your quilting machine. Looks like a lot of fun. I don't know if you watch other videos, but I watched on RUclips Angela Walters of "The Midnight Quilt Show" and it seems like she has an easier way to do the Cathedral Window quilt block. ❤️
Hi Peggy! I love Angela Walters and her Midnight Quilt videos. I'll have to look that one up. Shabby Fabrics, who made this pattern, has a video on how to make this very quilt and it certainly is different than anything I've seen before. Thanks for watching!
Becky, Test that ABC pattern before you stitch it out on your quilt. I have the same set up as you (King Quilter & Butler) I tried the pattern on one of the kids quilts and I thought it quilted out funny. It's been a while since I used it, but if I remember right, it seems like it was missing some lines so letters weren't complete. I fixed it by going back and using a ruler to fill in the missing spots, but it was kind of a hassle.
Pam, thanks for that tip so I'll be sure to do that. I usually go on blind faith that the pattern will stitch out properly. Have you watched the RUclips videos that Kim Stotsenberg puts out? She is a dealer for the Butler and I met her at the show last Nov. She shows the entire process on doing the sampler that's in the Butler and one day I'm going to do that - and uses the point-to-point. Also, she shows how to get rid of the "dreaded black line" that I've had happen. Sure enough, I had it show up again recently in a quilt or two ago and reviewed her video to fix it. The fix has something to do with the Merge tool. That Butler has a wealth of things it can do that I haven't yet explored and maybe that should be another resolution to figure it all out!
I haven't seen her videos; I'll go check them out. I've watched every single video from Quilt EZ (most before my machine was even delivered...I was so excited). I am amazed at what the Butler can do and relatively easy to learn. I've only used the point to point a couple of times, I'm sure I'm missing a step, but sometimes it seems to work well others, I can't make it do what I want. The one that I seem to have the most trouble with is crop. I usually get results that I don't expect! By dreaded black line, do you mean when it puts in an extra row of stitching instead of a jump to get to the next point? I've had that happen, maybe I can learn how to avoid!
Well, I didn't test it, but I took your caution to heart and I see what you mean. There's a "B" on the top of the pattern that looks kind of sketchy on the screen and it creates a stop on the pattern. I might look for another "like" pattern online and then switch. I'll see how it goes.
Hi Becky, do you have an email? What thread are you using on top and in the bobbin? I live in Southern California, about an hour or so from Sewing Machine Plus, so I can easily drive to them if I decided to upgrade to the King Quilter. But I like using pantographs, rulers, or hand guided free motion so I don’t think I want the computer.
Pam, if you have the talent to do paper pantos, then more power to you sister! No need to drop the 5k on the robot then. My machine likes a strong thread so my normal go-to is Isacord because I can get it in the local quilt shop for $6 a spool and she has buy 2 get 3rd free on Tuesdays. Total deal there. I started with King Tut on top and So-Fine in bottom as per mfg recommendations but it's SO expensive! So now I just use the poly thread. It doesn't break...ever, and works great for me. What do you use? My email is beckyleethompson at outlook dot com
Well, I broke my resolution (I couldn't help myself! lol) But I'm REALLY trying on this one. I'm doing the Connecting Threads Mercantile BOM. I've done 9 of 20 blocks so far! Fingers crossed! :)
I have 2 of the alphabet panels. I forgot all about them until I saw yours. I need to find some coordinating fabric so I can get them made and out of my stash. Cathedral Window is on my list to try this year. I'm going to attempt a pillow first to see if I can make heads or tails out of this. I've found several tutorials that show different ways to sew the blocks. We'll see!
Yay for forgotten fabric!! It's almost like Christmas! You should have luck finding coordinating fabrics because of the reprint. You're lucky you have the panels...Neither Joy nor I could find any yesterday.
I just love that you said you aren’t creative. I love to quilt also, but I can’t put together colors to save my life, thank you!!!
So good to hear someone who loves the King Quilters sewing machine. I have one without the computer and I love mine too.
I have started to buy the Villa Rosa, love them,
Glad you are enjoying the Villa Rosa patterns. They are so easy and take up very little space!

Love that quilt!!!
