Thanks for the review!! However, a lot the features mentioned for the Jabra are also on the PXC 550.
      1. The hearthrough feature can be activated with a double tap on the right earcup on the PXC 550
      2. The PXC 550 can connect to 2 devices simultaneously as well
      3. The PXC 550 can charge and play at the same time and can play audio through USB as well. (It can even maintain the BT connection while receiving USB audio from another device, so that's 3 devices if u really push it).
Coming from a PXC550 user for abt 2 yrs now

    • @LamZL1

@@MikeWat Abt that, the PXC can't play music while hearthrough is turned on except in the kinda odd scenario that you have, on a Windows PC, a music player and a YT webpage open. In that instance you can play the YT vid while hearthrough is active. (Not sure if this is a bug though)
I have experienced and used this ^ method many times and it works. But in answer to your question, nope (to most of the time).

Hi Mike - Thank you for your review! Just to let you know, a new firmware will be released in the beginning of May that will increase the volume levels and address other minor issues, so we hope that you will be on the lookout for this update. Until then, we hope that your Jabra Elite 85h currently shows as "up to date" in the Sound+ app. We would also suggest that you try out the presets in the Jabra Sound+ app, as well as the equalizer function to customize the sound to your liking. We are glad to know that you enjoyed the build quality, simultaneous connections, HearThrough feature and call quality!

Hi there, will this firmware fix the reported distortion issues which users have mentioned? Looking forward to seeing what this update manages to fix/improve. One request which I believe Jabra should definitely consider...please think about enabling AAC Bluetooth codec support for a future firmware update. Only supporting SBC is a step backwards, because even the 65t's can handle AAC. All current competitors can do SBC and AAC at the very least. Will this be coming in a future update? Was it just not ready for launch as it seems like a strange omission? If it is coming in the future it'd be good to let customers know as I think being SBC only will put a few potential customers off. Thanks!

    @simone981 3 года назад +15

Just my 2 cents, man, I don't really agree with you when you say that if you buy those headphones you're paying for sound quality and noise cancelation. If you're a commuter or a student who spend the most of the day dealing with external noise you may be right, but if you sit the most of the time in front of your computer or in your office to work, the ANC is the last thing you actually need. Obviously this is my opinion, but I'm speaking from experience.
Plus, on the competitors, you've something less in exchange of something more: with Sony you've a perfect ANC but the connection is limited to one device at a time; with Bose you're just paying the brand and the "coolness" to possess Bose headphones, but the re-processed sound of those headphones is the farther thing from audio quality; with Sennheiser you've a very nice audio quality but the connection level is something they really should work on (and I don't really like the build quality of Sennheiser headphones).
So, imho, Jabra could be a nice compromise if you're able to equalize the sound properly and if you are planning to use them mostly at home/office. With the additional benefit that the call quality on those is way above the competitors' one. So, you're paying for a durable set of headphones that would perform properly in a given context (with the benefit of future firmware releases) and that will facilitate the daily routines in an office. If you're searching for sound quality and noise isolation per se, you'd better use wired headphones and really high quality audio files.

    • @yp5387
      @yp5387 2 года назад

Can you use this headphone for home/office use? Even Jabra official doesn't support and recommend connecting windows or mac with it. Buttons simply don't work. I can't mute while I am on the call. They are selling Evolve2 85 for home/office use, which are very expensive pair of headphones.

    • @simone981
      @simone981 2 года назад

@@yp5387 I have to admit that my experience is limited (by my memory) on that. I've briefly used them for office and it was quite good, then I got a MacBook Pro 16", so I returned my Jabra and bought a pair of B&W with support for aptX. Even if it's not their field, B&W are perfect for office use if paired with a laptop with good mic (that was the benefit of the MacBook Pro 16"), because their built-in mic is crappy, but the sound is almost superbe for a BT pair of headphones. B&W aside, I don't remember having hard times with the Jabra ones. Everything worked fine on my side. It was the lack of aptX that made my mind in sending them back.

    Good review.
My 85h's are now exhibiting the dreaded blinking red LED fault. I'll need to disconnect/reconnect the battery after a bit of internal surgery for which I've only found textual instructions on Reddit.
My favourite all time headset is the Jabra Evolve 75 unit which features the boom mike.
The 75 was able to do 3 devices (1 on Jabra's "Bluetooth" dongle, 1 on actual bluetooth, and one on USB cable) without much problem.
The noise cancelling was superb. I think the boom mic configuration allowed for better processing with less circuitry. The 85h only marginally cancels noise in calls which is oriented in certain directions (front and rear of your head).
I use my Jabras for office calls primarily, but also to watch computer/phone videos. They are both excellent for what I need. I am not an audiophile having ruined my hearing in earlier life with plenty of lound army noises. But I really wish my 75's still worked. (Their own dreaded mic cable break fault.)
Of note: The 85h set sports the rare but sometimes obligatory Bluetooth version 5 which has excellent security. Good for organizations who are concerned about communication security. Stockbrokers, lawyers, C-suite bigwigs, etc. I'd suppose.
Thanks for the lead on other good headsets!

As someone who reviewed the Jabra 85h's for Amazon Vine, I'm afraid I must take exception to several key points in this reviewer's report on these cans.
First, I had the same problem with low volume when I first tried the 85h's. But I called Jabra and asked what the dealy-o was, and within two or three days, the volume problem had been fixed, presumably through a firmware update.
Second, though I haven't heard the Sony or Bose cans, I can say that the Jabra's sound excellent now that the volume problem has been resolved. I am a semi-pro musician of many years' experience, and I know what good sound sounds like. These Jabra's sound great on all types of music --- when you enable the bass boost in the app's equalizer.
Third, I have NOT encountered the bass popping problems the reviewer describes, and I've been playing these plenty loud. Maybe he had a defective pair of Jabras?
Fourth, I can't compare the NC performance to the Sony or Bose, but I can say that Jabra recommends enabling the Moments routine, even if you disable the automatic NC and hear-through settings, as I did. Apparently Moments gives more accurate monitoring of ambient sound conditions.
So I would suggest that the reviewer try the Jabra's again taking these issues into consideration, and possibly exchanging his pair if the bass problem persists.
The one negative the dude didn't bring up, however -- and it is a highly subjective matter -- is the look of these cans. IMO the "S" bend in the headband looks ungainly compared to the straight bands on the Sony and Bose phones.
But for those trying to save some money on premium NC cans, I think the Jabra's get two thumbs up, especially if phone performance is important.

This is what happens when gadget reviewers and average consumers talk about audio: they don't know what hey are talking about. You give them bass, and it's all they need to be happy. I'm not saying that Jabras sound perfect cause they don't (I'd like them to sound more dynamic and snappy), but at least they have some air and sparkle in the top end and more clarity and detail in the mids than sony. These so called wireless kings, god, there's so much emphasis in the low frequencies that bleed in the mids and make them sound odd, often muddy. Same as Jabra their Bluetooth will try to compete/ snatch signal whichever device play later. Bose doesn’t do that, it demands the first playing device stopped first then the 2nd device signal can jam in, so not that confused. Both with Pros and Cons. Also, glad to hear you'll consider checking out the Denons. As already mentioned these are pretty much my last hope for headphones that don't suck (in my opinion).
Funny how audio Quality and ANC aren't even on my list (anymore) of "must haves" and I'm still struggling to find a decent pair.
The 3 Major things I want is:
      1. Comfort.
I listen to music the whole day and wearing them up to 8 hours isn't uncommon.
Only my wired "Sony MDR-1R" managed to be comfy enough so far.
      2. No touch interface (It'll always be inferior especially when you're wearing gloves in the winter)
      3. MULTIPOINT god dammit!
Honestly, how this not a thing for headphones in this price-range I'll never understand. (Looking at you Sony)
Apart from that there are a few Quality-of-life things I kind of want/expect:
      1. Power switch rather than a button (Long-pressing to turn something on/off is just plain annoying)
      2. Remember ANC state (it automatically going back to "On" is so frustrating. Again... Sony!!!)
      3. When Switching between modes, have a OPTIONAL voice feedback (the QC35 allow to turn it of and have a beep instead and that's just amazing)
p.s. sorry for the wall of text :)

I got the Jabra 85H. I am curious if you test it with windows. I use 2 laptops and if you need to use it for call don't buy it it is very chaotic sometimes works sometimes not. My voice sounds very soft. It reduce the sounds around you a little, if you put it the other way your voice is very very low. But in order to use the mic you need to set it to headset as output and manually select the jabra mic. In this mod the audio is very bad, I think it is mono. And it activates hear-through and you can not change it. The hear-through makes an annoying sound, you can reduce it from android app but it is still audible. When I test the call quality on android it simply peaks all the sound around you very loud, It makes no difference if I put them the other way (like in windows). I am curios if it is just my unit or there are other people with this issues.

I have the Sonys and just tried the Jabras. I vouch for Mike. He's dead on in this review. Jabras are great for calls, but the ANC is not in the same league as the Sonys. I did think they had pretty good sound, but I experienced the exact issue with the crackling bass at loud volumes. They would do it from both speakers when listening to songs with heavy bass. I admit though, if you don't want hearing damage, you don't need to have the Jabras at maxed out volume when playing these types of songs. With less intense songs I did not experience this issue. I do love some of the features like the on/off when taking them on/off. They are also very comfortable and almost feel like the Sony's when wearing them. They do seem to fit my small head a little better than Sonys do. They also have Alexa built in, so it does not need to unlock your phone to use Alexa and Amazon Music. This is a nice feature IMO.

I listen a lot of music, different genres and I could not tell any difference between 85h and q20 with anc on. q20 without anc sound has a little more bass, on some music it is nice in others it is ok. 85H has an equalizer on android and mac you can change a little bit how they sound but I could not say that there is a big difference. Call quality including noise suppression was very similar. ANC and passive isolation was a little bit better on h85. For me anc does not make a big difference in the end I can hear the voices around me but they are more soft. The only think that I missed on q20 was the possibility to pair 2 devices. For me both are comfortable, I think 85h fits better on smaller heads and I have the impression that my ears are a little bit hotter with 85h.
I would like to hear a sony or a bose to see the differences.

I have also received a reply from Jabra with regards to these issues and they have informed that a new firmware is rolling out in May to fix them. Ironic, I return them and now there is a firmware coming out to fix things, going to have to buy them again. I really wish that companies would test products more thoroughly before making them available to the public. If I was making a video about these headphones I would have mentioned these same issues and encouraged people not to buy them, so Jabra gets a bad rap and people do not buy them and that is just ridiculous as the consumer walks away and finds an alternative and Jabra's sales take a massive hit. Jabra, do not rush things and end up with frustrated consumers, take your time and have happy consumers = Intelligent business model...right?

Couldn't agree more with this, it's maddening. Videos like this stay on the internet for years, and during the product lifecycle I'll bet these reviews put off so many customers who watch them in six months and are just not aware that firmware updates have probably already resolved a handful or all of the mentioned issues already. I'm sure Mike would put a comment up if there were any major changes but still, this isn't always seen. Either way, the end result is they are scared of purchasing and go elsewhere - and Jabra lose out simply because they didn't wait another month to release them with the issues already fixed and there would be positive reviews all round. It's not as if they were competing with another release by a major competitor and trying to beat them to release. Strange really. Only thing I would say is Jabra themselves aren't shipping their own pre-orders until next week, after this newer firmware is apparently going to be available. Their site has always maintained early May is the shipping date for these, so I was surprised when Amazon etc were getting them earlier. Maybe they allowed third party sellers to release them too early, which in my eyes was a big mistake.

The only good thing, so far there are hardly any reviews out there, so there is a chance they can release the firmware in time to catch some other major reviews before they are published. My fear though is other reviewers are probably doing their write ups now and will probably put them up over the weekend, mentioning a load of things which are going to be imminently fixed, and then you are reliant on the reviewer bothering to update their review. Frustrating!

@@movisman I agree with everything you say and it echos the point I was trying to make.
I had these on pre-order with Amazon and was really excited about them and was left underwhelmed after setting them up and using them for a few hours, however, I could really see the potential and loved the build quality and simply couldn't fault them in that area, so darn comfortable and packed with innovative technology.
I was not aware that Jabra was not officially until early May, so this makes sense the reply I got from Jabra with regards to another firmware update.
I am definitely going to grab another pair in a few months and maybe I was too quick to send them back, but you see from this video that the issues are real and basically unacceptable.
Jabra should have not allowed these to be shipped out by third-party sellers if they were not ready for prime time, hopefully, the firmware update is the solution and that not too much damage has been done in the way of sales for Jabra.
I have both the Elite and Evolve 65t's and I cannot really fault them, yeah I could be super picky and find something, however, there is nothing that is going to be perfection...right?

@@n666fst Right, completely agree with you. I just find it amazing that companies (and not just Jabra) rush these products out the door and then the web is swamped with average reviews which don't always get updated. It must be so damaging for sales - I almost think I am missing something here because this often happens. The solution seems quite simple in my eyes. If they had just kept the retailers release date the same as the one on their own website (UK pre-orders like mine ship on 6th May I understand) none of this firmware business would even be mentioned as it'd already be out by the time the product was released to the masses, and reviews would be much better as a result. Although, maybe they have kept a close eye on the initial user comments regarding sound, volume, distortion and other bugs and prioritised/fixed accordingly. Still, most of this stuff should have been picked up during internal testing, before release. I will keep my pre-order as like you say, these are packed with tech and I can see the potential even though I don't have them in my hands yet. In the meantime some BOSE outlet stores are selling their QC35 II headphones for a very reasonable price (factory renewed, usually 30 day returns) but this is available in stores only. I might pick up a pair of these as there is a store 30 minutes away from me, and compare the two when my Jabras arrive. QC35 are not even close in tech, but I'd be curious to see the difference in actual sound and comfort. I can send back the pair which doesn't stack up. Just a possible idea I might pursue.

Reason 1 - Sound quality. Because its sounds flat..... 😐
How quality matches with flatness of frequency response? Flat frequency response in opposite provide us more true sound because of no masking one rrequency on each other

Jabra is one of the best. People keep ragging about Bose QC35ii and when I bought it the sound quality was so very normal compared to Jabra. Even now when you tested Jabra's mic was the best. Add to that multi-connection. Sony maybe good, but I don't like throwing my headset when connected to pc to answer the phone. I think you are so bais!

@@MikeWat Since most phone screens are going with a wider aspect ratio. On my P30 Pro for example I have black bars on the sides
Edit: your videos are now 16:9 because of that 2:1 might look like it's much different but 2:1 = 18:9 which means it's just a little wider
