i have a very botched chest tattoo that i got for my first tattoo and my tattoo is raised and blow outs galore from where she stopped and started and it's all shaky because she rushed the whole thing it would have taken her about 6 hours to do the tattoo properly but she did it in 2.5 hours. Then charged me $760
Super late to this, but i'd love it. I went to a fairly reputable tattoo artist to finish up a tattoo, and was quoted as it being around 3 sessions, 4 hours each session at $200 per hour. Was like, okay cool, good tattoos cost some money. Spoke with her about the concept, what I'd like, and asked if I could see some sketches in a few weeks (the first session date was 3 months away) and she said sure. Time went by, no sketches. The week of the session, i was panicked, and honestly I should have listened to this. But I didn't, I emailed going "hey how's the sketching going?" and she said it was common to freehand tattoos without sketches... As someone who got an illustration degree, alarm bells were ringing, but i swallowed the panic down and continued. First session went great, so i was eased. However, the 2nd and third sessions immediately destroyed that. The background was completely phoned in, there's no subtle lines, colors, and she went flat black for MOST of the details in the background. I kept asking if maybe it would be a good idea to use some purples to contrast with the orange and yellow of the fire (the whole piece is a falcon escaping a forest fire) and she kept saying no, it wouldn't heal right and it wouldn't be visible, etc etc. All in all, I paid around 3k including tips for a tattoo i hate and have been considering getting the background lasered off, if not the whole thing. Additionally, she ruined the original line art that was done extremely well and had aged perfectly over 10 years. There's no longer any feathering, any line variation, and i'm just SO angry and frustrated that i didn't listen to myself, and that the artist took advantage of my trust.

Hey, I have the Eeveelution/Vegeta sleeve, and have to say, the image is super blown out from the sun, and trust me, it is slathered in sunscreen and I wear gloves to my armpit in the car. It has obviously lost saturation since day zero, but I gotta say the artist definitely increased saturation in the original images and my arm doesn't look that dull in real life. Thanks for the review ❤
Yeah I think he forgot the part of the email where you said you’re in Australia. It definitely got sun. But every couple of years you could get it touched up with some fresh color to make it pop again.
@@erics2091 oh when I say blown out from the sun I meant the photo. In person people always comment about how vibrant it is and it doesn't look old. It's a terrible photo
@@redwolf0331 thank you. Honestly it's not that faded in real life. Also, I'm a light/medium olive skin tone. Of course my natural skin colour will change the hue. I'm not pasty white enough to keep full saturation.
12:28 the tattooer 100% boosted the contrast & saturation. You can see that the owner's old orchid right above the new piece looks way richer in the tattooer pic than it does in the healed pic, hell, it's not even the same colors.
Not saying you're wrong but the orchid tattoo would have aged 2 more years as well, so it probably wouldn't look the same... but I agree they had to have done some photoshop, unless the artist used the crappiest ink in existence or the dude sat in the sun the entire 2 years. (And they don't look tan at all, so I doubt that).
Zero chance you can say that for certain. Do you even have the qualifications to make an educated guess? I am not saying you are right or wrong but you are not able to tell without seeing the actual pictures close up.
As the owner of the arm, yes, the artist heavily editing the original image to make the colours pop for his Instagram, and the orchid is like 8 years older than the anime one. The images I did myself I tried to get in natural lighting but I think the sun just blew it out too much (white balance is off). And trust me, living in Australia, I cover my skin religiously (and work night shift, and goth, gloves and sunscreen). Definitely more saturated in person
Hey man, can you show a featured artist that has good examples of color on dark skin? These artists are incredibly difficult to find, even more so for someone who doesn’t know the tattoo industry very well.
I swear every time I see one of these super saturated pieces It literally looks like digital art, I mean there aren’t even pores or skin definition, and as a digital artist I can immediately tell it’s been enhanced in PS, I don’t see a problem with fixing the colors to how they would look in person, but it’s really giving people this unrealistic standard of what tattoos are supposed to look like, kinda sad
Hey Pony, I really appreciate your vids. I got my first tattoo 19 years ago but haven't been able to afford to get more, well, not the the ones that I really want in any case. I have to say thank god I couldn't, because after watching your critiques I'm sure I would have been stuck with a lot of mediocre tattoos. Now that I have the knowledge on what to to look for in an artist I'm super excited to be adding to my collection soon, I just wish I lived close enough to get one from you.
The west australian tattoo Evie’s and dragonball Z would see A LOT of harsh sun, we have a hole in the ozone layer over australia, and everyone who has experienced it can confirm….. it is savage. The Favorite one is insane, big props to the artist. On the other hand if I got the Pokemon and DBZ one I would be pissed, healed it looks like a bubblegum "tattoo" after wearing it for a week
The Alan Lee leg is breathtaking I have never watched Dragon Ball Z but on RUclips the channel TeamFourStar does Dragon Ball Z abridged and it is hysterical and I also love VanHelsing Abridged. “Bitches love cannons” lol
Eeveelutions tattoo: I'm looing at a freeze frame of the side by side shots and I do think that if we saw that tattoo in person it'd be somewhere in the middle, but closer to the healed photo's faded out look. Someone else pointed out the older tattoo above the sleeve, the purple orchids and the blue thing, is very over-saturated in the artist's photo as well even though that doesn't look like it was part of the fresh tattoo. Healed photo, left side, there's a pink flower to the left of the top pokemon (Sylveon) that has way better colour quality and detail for a healed tattoo than the Eeveelutions, so I doubt this is an aftercare issue. Overall the eeveelutions went from looking super vibrant to looking like someone gave an 8 year old budding artist a greyscale colouring page and some coloured pencils. Eevee (bottom, brown) looks okay in both versions, though the mane shading has gone from shading to dirt. Vaporeon (blue above brown) faded, lost some line detail, but okay. Leafeon (yellow/green to the right of the blue) wow, what happened. Espeon (purple) turned pink and the smoothness did not improve. Flareon (red) is the most coloured pencil texture looking one of the bunch now and it lost the highlights that made the paw/leg look passable. Umbreon (black) improved. We lost detail, yes, but it smoothed out with fading. Putting the mouth back on would make it pretty good. Glaceon (blue at the top) went from having 3+ shades of detail to flat 2 colour cell shading and it's passable as the character but a major downgrade from the highlights of the fresh tattoo. This and Flareon really show a reliance on white ink and why it's a dangerous choice. Jolteon (yellow, top) oh boy. He lost his chin and the detail where the yellow meets the white is completely gone. The angle's not the same, but it's clearly not what it was before. Sylveon (pink at the top) went from standing out from the purple flowers to being almost the same colour at the flowers.
I just saw the comment-response video and would love it if you went a lil’ more in depth for applying for apprenticeships. Like, are digital or paper sketches better? What type of paper and pen would you suggest to avoid small ink blots? Do those ink blots even matter because they are so common for pen sketches? How do you present yourself? Casual or hyper-polite? Something I would love to see if a Pony Lawson version of “Ink Master”. I use to love watching Ink Master, but it’s nothing like it used to be, it’s overly edited and washed down now. Would love to see an authentic version hosted/judged by Pony Lawson
Hello pony Lawson I was thinking of getting a patchwork sleeve of a black widow and a rose but I was wondering what others would go well with it. Any thoughts?🤔
Despite knowing it was a lack of skill and not by design, I actually kind of like the way the Eeveelution and DBZ tattoos have faded. It reminds me of the manga I borrowed from the library, or secondhand Pokémon game boxes we got from GameStop. The “vintage-y” look suits the subjects, I guess
I have a request. I was watching one of your coverup videos from a couple of years back, and you had mentioned using skin colour ink to lighten a tattoo instead of getting removal done, the next time you or Gary do one could you make a before and after video of the process? There aren't that many photos, and I couldn't find anything on RUclips apart from one shitty video that talks about using it as an alternative to removal, but not as a base for a coverup, it would be interesting how it looks..
I like to compare the skin tone to get a more realistic picture of a tattoos color change over time. You could even match the skin tones with photo editing software
The eevee/Vegeta was almost certainly over edited on the artist end. The flower above the eevee's seem to be an older separate tattoo - and that one looks like it was brought up so much the color looks almost purple rather than pink like in the healed picture by the client.
I don't have tattoos myself, but I really like to look at them. For anime tattoos my fav is Arcos_Noir_Tatts. Most black and grey with little color highlights. I can't get enough of them
The very first one is mine. The photo is the artists photo which is a little bit boosted, but it's still very vibrant in person, and I'd be happy to share pictures of it now. It's about a month into healing.
I got all my tattoos black and white so I could color them in with markers. I don't have to worry about color fading. I can even coordinate with outfits or seasons (I have some sunflowers and in autumn I make them more red and orange)
The one with the eeveelution and Vegeta tattoo where you go over the difference in saturation--the artist absolutely edited that photo. As someone trained as a photographer, it immediately strikes me that the background is so dark, but the harsh line of a flash or light is there. That tells me they pushed the contrast, and the shadows, to get punchier colors. Likely in conjunction with upping the saturation a bit. This might be to offset the brightness they needed, or some skin blowout if the lighting wasn't the best for the photo. Could also be because they were (for whatever reason) trying to minimize the background. Either way, those colors are not true-to-life at all.
Is Alan a Therion fan or a Dragon Rouge member perhaps? The symbol on the skull's forehead is the clavicula nox, which is used by the organisation and by the band.
Hey! Alan here. I just told the artists to do whatever they wanted with my leg so they put that on lol. I asked them and they told me they think it’s the symbol for “sulfur” or something haha
@@ScrubLord Hi! I don't think that's a symbol for sulfur, that's usually the levithan cross used by LaVeyan Satanists and the like. The clavicula nox is more particular. But you should know you're not alone, a lot of band members in Therion are members of Dragon Rouge and have it tattooed on them!
the first tattoo was hella dope, but one thing i didn’t like about it was the way the artist did the pinky on the hand. to me it stands out like a sore thumb.
As far as the tattoo artist photo editing goes…. There’s a tattoo shop in my area that specializes in anime tattoos and almost all of their artists edit the HELL out of their tattoos before posting them…. Even as far as correcting linework on their iPads in the pictures. Colors fade quick as hell after healing from what I’ve seen on a few of their previous clients. It’s super shady and I think it should be considered false advertisement
Man I would sell my house for a tattoo as epic and well done as allans. Unfortunately, there just arent any artists I can realistically reach out to within a 400km radius from where I live
I miss having money for tattoos, its been years and I am way too bare still...and I'm not getting any younger lol😂oh what did they do to poor Wolverine! Oh help him! Somebody help him!😂he needs some milk!
Man the tattoo with the Naruto crossover concept the lower arm is broken in two pieces … the elbow isn’t connected to the lower hand and wrist at the right angle
The tattoo of the guy with dreads and the red coloured see through cloud? The healed picture is the same pic..... There's NO hair regrowth on dude's leg. No sure why...but it's the same photo.
Very slightly. That's my tattoo! But it is quite vibrant in real life. The color is boosted a bit in that picture. But not when compared to the two that faded out. You can see the pixelization in the black background on those because they bumped up the contrast so much. If you want, I can throw my Instagram up. I've got a picture of it after 3 weeks, unedited.
No editing at all really just a completely blacked out shop with no light a polarized light and cpl lense on a iPhone ! My tattoos also heal almost identical if not brighter than fresh !
(57) Those were very interesting. And the black/grey leg tattoo really was the cream of this crop of examples. And I'm NOT a fan of "anime". It all looks the same to me.
I've got one! It's really simple though and I dint even think most Bad Omens fans would see it as that. I've got the M, so the 3 bars, of their current logo on my left wrist.

I like to compare the skin tone to get a more realistic picture of a tattoos color change over time. You could even match the skin tones with photo editing software
Robocop in the background??? Detroit is very proud of you, sir.
😅 If he hated you for your critique of the Wolverine tattoo, it would probably be his refusal to accept the truth you laid out for him. 😂
I think the joeydoy one works well with the face, seems to bind togheter the caroony and the more realistic imo
Can you please put the link for the video you reference from Geon about adding black to colors.
I can't get enough of them
Some if not all of the best tats seen today looked photoshopped though
The very first one is mine. The photo is the artists photo which is a little bit boosted, but it's still very vibrant in person, and I'd be happy to share pictures of it now. It's about a month into healing.
Holy shit I said McDonald’s French fries too the moment I saw that hair
I got all my tattoos black and white so I could color them in with markers. I don't have to worry about color fading. I can even coordinate with outfits or seasons (I have some sunflowers and in autumn I make them more red and orange)
That's a really cool idea!
Whoever did the Eevy sleeve should have their camera privileges taken away.
I was so conviced that you would complain about the wonky lines of the triange circle shape thing on the allan thigh
Okay, fancy t-shirt!
Could the last one that faded so bad be also due to ashy skin and no lotion??
i need to know who did alan lee's leg piece
Thoughts on tattooers wearing watches/bracelets while tattooing?
LOVEING the Market secret club shirt 👀
Man I would sell my house for a tattoo as epic and well done as allans. Unfortunately, there just arent any artists I can realistically reach out to within a 400km radius from where I live
I miss having money for tattoos, its been years and I am way too bare still...and I'm not getting any younger lol😂oh what did they do to poor Wolverine! Oh help him! Somebody help him!😂he needs some milk!
balenciaga on that drake/diddy bs
Man the tattoo with the Naruto crossover concept the lower arm is broken in two pieces … the elbow isn’t connected to the lower hand and wrist at the right angle
I’m dying for you to critique the flower tattoos I sent in from Mambo in Italy!
Mambo is so good. I'm sure you've got a solid tattoo from him! I'd love to get one done by him.
Wait! Your Christina shirt is top tier 🤌🏾 this is my first vid but already a fan
His much Deleon’s you guess the keg tattoo costed?
Also think the Pokemon sleeve doesn't use sunscreen.. that's a lot of even fading.
I’m work on getting my tattoos to heal better sometimes there scratchy or a line will come out
The tattoo of the guy with dreads and the red coloured see through cloud? The healed picture is the same pic..... There's NO hair regrowth on dude's leg. No sure why...but it's the same photo.
oh no… not the balenciaga shirt….
Balenciaga top, really?? Remember the kids in BDSM gear
Don't be a coward - let us review Pony's tatts
The Gengar has a gladiator helmet
Yo pony love your channel think listening to purple rain while creating will cure you from purple Kryptonite
That MF GENGAR is AMAZING!!!!
The head on the wolverine oof
Being from Omaha, your not wrong
isnt the first tattoo edited????
I thought he would point it out.
@@STARPHASE sorry is it your tattoo on your body or your the artist?
@@parsaa.z7985it's on me, but r3stless-ssb33 there is the artist.
(Bad Omens) yes they are A band. video idea tell me what their tattoos mean……………………please
What's good pony!...
Alan's healed photo looks kinda like a green screen background.
The right side of that rose on the Wolverine piece is so janky, like they lost a petal or something.
06:20 What happened there? Does he have miniature hands?
Is that Eddie? :O
Hey I’ll take the shout out to Omaha 😅😂 not the best shout out but hey we’ll take it
Wolverine missing a blade
(57) Those were very interesting. And the black/grey leg tattoo really was the cream of this crop of examples. And I'm NOT a fan of "anime". It all looks the same to me.
Lol bro your funny 😂😂
I think the leg tatoo might of been photo shop
No that’s my tattoo and it’s real!!
I feel like MF Doom would be rolling over in his grave if he knew people were getting Pokémon mashup tattoos of the mask
Give those clients LOTION prior to taking a pic GEEZ Pony - couldn't pick up on that? Lol
Bad Omens tattoos question mark
I've got one! It's really simple though and I dint even think most Bad Omens fans would see it as that. I've got the M, so the 3 bars, of their current logo on my left wrist.
Omaha gentlemen’s club
It would be an honor for you to critique my work ❤ I think I've sent some submissions but I can resend some more.
Do you ever critique celebrity tatts? Please take a look at Till Lindemann's back and now both arms. His FIRST ink. Smh
The orange floating bits in the first tattoo were a mistake. They look like inflamed sores and really distract from the image
