- today we're looking at the worst kickstarter ideas, some of which are scams, or just flat out impossible business ideas. i forced nickisnotgreen to look at ps5 sunglasses, an invisibility shield, a flaming lightsaber, on kickstarter and indiegogo, and more

They are specifically designed to refract light better
It is placed on a frame for you, so it stands up, not everyone can or wants to do the work of making a lens into a "shield"

As someone who loves metal detecting: those shoes wouldn't even work in concept. You're not supposed to put weight on the coil (the part that actually metal detects), and 4 AA batteries wouldn't power it. Normally they're powered by what looks like a mini car battery.

I could only see someone using it to narrow down a location, but it would be so much easier to carry a smaller handheld detector.

I could see how it would be good to do paces if they were throwing the quarter instead since then little kids wouldn't have to throw as far as adults. Still a really stupid game
so for the random people trying on the glasses, that was filmed outside of the Santa Cruz boardwalk, near the wharf. SC is a big tourist attraction and so I'm convinced that the people in the video were just visiting the city that day probably that it was one of those quirky beach attractions, instead of a product that people were scammed into funding

Yeah, I don't think the video was very good, but the glasses are awesome. I wish they sold them at a store so people could try them. They are a game changer. I use them occasionally at work.
Invisibility shields have been circulated around the internet as protest/riot gear, and I think they’re pretty useful for that-in a low-light situation, when you’re trying to hide yourself from cops, it makes sense. But there are also just tutorials online for how to make them yourself, and they’re almost definitely less expensive to build than they would be to buy from a company.
Not to mention, we don’t need a company selling invisibility shields. There’s only a single application that I can think of, and you can DIY it. There’s not enough demand or necessity for this company to be relevant.
Yeah there's like two or three things you need to make it. I don't think it's easy to find those ridge things in that scale though. But you can definitely make it at home
The US military has an actual cloak that turns the wearer "invisible". Like in Harry Potter. Your tax dollars hard at work. 🙄

Not only was the light saber a complete scam they stole the idea from another RUclipsr named Alan Pan.
A man who knew what he was doing, and in another video reviewed their light saber and the severe safety flaws.
I bet butt quarters was a "unique" game played by this ONE family, and the $120 is from them.
Uncle convinced them it was a very popular traditional game because he was drunk and bored on thanksgiving.
It's a variation on an old Dutch children's game where you tie a piece of string with a nail on the end around your waist. The goal is to put the nail into a bottle. You all start a distance away from your own bottle and the first one in wins.

They have a point with it drawing less attention. The best places to metal detect are those that don't allow metal detecting. Discrete metal detecting might have a market.
Evan and Katelyn actually did a video earlier this year on the second product;the it's called a "lenticular lens", and it basically has a bunch of tiny ridges in it that bend light; which is why it's blurry behind the sheet. They make one at home with resin and it's pretty cool :) Definitely not an "invisibility shield" lol.

4:27 A "band" that can get you "128 gigs", that is impressive! It can literally get you into 128 "gigs". As an audio engineer, getting 128 gigs by just wearing a headband is a godsend 😅

i feel like the shield thingy could be good for windows in like, a confidential place... it would probably be less shiny and distracting than those bright ass one-way windows on office buildings in bigger cities, _and_ if someone tried to look in, they wouldn't be able to see anything... i'm not entirely sure how it works, but if it does work from all angles i think that could be an interesting application of it
you can do a similar thing by removing the polarizing filter from a screen. it will look just white. and then put the film into some glasses. so you can see the screen
My favorite part of the XR glasses ad is that they used the Switch in their example of the glasses making it so that you don't need a TV, when that's the entire point of the Switch itself.
What’s more ironic is that PlayStation/Xbox have an app where you could literally play on your console through your phone too
I have a pair. Yeah it's a trust me bro thing but it's freaking awesome. Connecting to my phone and using a controller playing gamepass is awesome. But being able to watch tv, through my phone, whole just walking around or at work is the best.

That lightsaber is not only dangerous, they also completely stole the idea of Allen Pan’s video and made it worse
Regarding the invisibility shield (2nd object), it appears to be a lenticular lens, which is composed of multiple very long yet very thin lenses that emphasize horizontal structures and "hide" vertical ones
The invisibility shield is actually something made by the military. It is used for stealth missions and helps people hide in places a gillie suit wouldn’t work (example: a hill with little to no coverage) It works by bending light rays around an object

PS5 remote play is a thing. But you need a SOLID connection to make it run smoothly and look crisp. I could pull out my phone right now, remotely turn on my ps5 and load a game, but honestly, I’ve never had a great experience with it. But the glasses are still ridiculous, remote play works only okay in most ideal situations, so adding in another layer to it would likely further hamper the experience. Instead of going from PS5 > Network > Phone, it would then be PS5 > Network > Phone > Bluetooth > Glasses, probably doesn’t work that great if it even works at all.
On a ps4, but my mom enjoys playing final fantasy 14 on my old iPad air 2. Controls are kinda the same as her vita, but all she can do is craft cause it takes too long for controls to input. Can’t imagine trying to play a ps5 on those glasses, not on a stable network, and expect anything to even load. Might work for an offline console like switch but doubt it
It's a wire connection to your phone to do the remote play. It's not too bad when you're at a hotel or something. Gamepass works pretty well, though.
The Viture glasses are actually legitimate and can actually be purchased. They actually work as described but makes most people nauseous.
With the invisibility shields, if you look at them from an angle you'll see blurry colors, but can't really make out anything of it due to how wide an area they typically suffuse the light. As for why you would want to own one, isn't it just cool to say you have your own invisibility shield?

the irl ‘invisibility shield’ is a real thing- though it doesn’t need to be marketed that way or that expensive (if i recall correctly). there’s a video about it on ‘evan and katelyn’ s youtube channel but i can’t remember the name. it’s is cool stuff!!

There's actually this really cool korean drama called "memories of alhambra," where a video game is created that uses lenses and you literally just go around and fulfill missions that are tied to actual locations. it's obvs sci-fi, but has some romance and maybe just a touch of magical realism. The first kickstarter just reminded me of that and it's a seriously well made k-drama (but really underappreciated, i'd say) with really cool effects. :D

The PS4 streaming part is literally the most normal part of this, it already exists on your phone. Also you can use wake on lan to avoid having to have your roommate turn on a device.

The “invisible” isn’t hard to understand the science it’s super simple light refraction. That stuff been around for like a decade now and that was more than likely just a drop shipper pretending to sell a new product
