A catio - or “cat patio” - is an outdoor enclosure that keeps cats and wildlife safe. Catios offer cats healthy exercise time as well as safety from outdoor hazards like cars, predators and poisons. It’s a win-win! Catios come in many forms. DIY, store bought or custom built, window size to yard size, frugal and fun to fancy with flair! Furnish it creatively with old tree stumps and perches for climbing and scratching. Put your green thumb to work by adding cat-friendly plants. The possibilities are endless!
The Siamese cat race is one of the first distinctly recognized breeds of Asian cat. Derived from the Wichianmat landrace, one of several varieties of cat native to Thailand (formerly known as Siam), the original Siamese became one of the most popular breeds in Europe and North America in the 19th century. The carefully refined, more extreme-featured, modern-style Siamese is characterized by blue almond-shaped eyes; a triangular head shape; large ears; an elongated, slender, and muscular body; and various forms of point colouration. Other than colouration, the modern-style Siamese bears little resemblance to the original stock, and the more moderate, traditional, or "old-style" Siamese, with a much rounder head and body, has been re-established by multiple registries as the Thai cat. The International Cat Association describes the modern Siamese as affectionate, social, intelligent, and playful into adulthood, often enjoying a game of fetch. Siamese tend to seek human interaction and also like companionship from other cats.

Yes for some of them! You are right. Its just not the case for Mino so this is fine. Within one year nothing happened.

@@ximenacorrea5305 agreed. All you need is a local predatory bird such as a hawk eagle or owl to get too close & too hungry before problems arise.

This is very helpful and inspirational for me. But I would definitely close of the top with the same net, and secure the bottom.

I bought my cats outdoor dog kennel for the summer months and they hang out in there and I don't have to worry about the escaping except for when they're going in and out of the dog kennel but they love it and I put hammocks in there and everything. 💖
I absolutely love this idea and I’ll definitely do it for my cats in the future😊 though I’d definitely cover the top and the rest of the sides as well since I’m planning to keep Siamese cats who are very skilled jumpers❤️

My Gracie is too adventurous. She would climb or jump over it I am afraid. Glad Mino is cautious. Nice view for him and fresh air too. Kudos.
Thanks a lot! Yes it really depends of the type of the cat. Mino is very cautious and also afraid when he sees birds or so. He usually runs into the house whenever he sees a bird or hears barking dogs on the street.

Just a couple of things I think will help you. Weigh down the netting on the balcony floor he could climb under it. A tall slim cat tree would keep him happy he could look over with no trouble 😻😽.

It also looks a bit scary to me being the owner of 2 cats that climb everything. Having said that it depends on the cat - and also the age - older cats are less likely to climb high or wander far away. If it works for you guys then it's all good :)

Never happened within 8 months. If there are birds on the roof Mino always runs inside the house. He is kind of afraid and shy of birds.

Mino is a very cute cat, nice job :) I am about to make something similar in my apartment. I was just wondering, do you trust Mino out on the balcony when no one is home? Or is Mino only allowed out when you are home and can keep an eye on him?

Very glad to hear that! :) we only let him out when we are at home but in 2 years he never tried to climb or jump the fence once, even with birds frequently on the others houses roofs. When we are at home we sometimes eat in the kitchen and let him be alone on the balcony without our supervision. He’s absolutely fine with that. We will finally upload a new video of Mino tomorrow, by the way :)

what if the cat wants to climb all the way to the top of the netting? Then it would fall over the side of the building. I would put something in where it bends forward so they wouldn't be able to go over the top

I unfortunately don’t know, some tough nylon I guess.
Needs to be covered at the top and all over so it is enclosed.
Are you sure he is not going to jump? the top part is open! does not look safe and I think you a smart enough to sense that.
It is now there for more than half a year and he never jumped, while being outside everyday for hours. There were also no attempts to jump by him. He even learned how to walk on the balcony step with the net. It does not fall off when he leans on it, because the middle stick holding it is enforced in the bottom and top, so there is just about 2-3 centimetres space to walk for him on the balcony step.

Yes, but Mino will not do it. At least not during the last 8 months when he was on the balcony. If birds are coming or there are barking dogs downstairs he immediately runs inside.

I'd be very careful. The cat can easily climb on the fence and it is very flimsy, so actually is dangerous.

No net is needed, the cat would never fall off that massive ledge.

He will not jump but it is better to have it. So that he will not climb up the roof. Fortunately Mino is quite heavy and cannot jump high, so the left and right sides of the net to the roof are already out of his reach. Also, he is afraid of birds, runs immediately inside the house if one comes close. So only insects are his friends :)
this is TERRIBLE advice, my cats would have climbed out immediate (always close off in the top, it's for cats and not for dogs)
No, you’re wrong! My cat AND 3 others who have stayed at our place have NEVER climbed out for months! I don’t know what’s wrong with your cat. I also put a camera there to monitor and they didn’t even attempted once in 90 days! So what? Maybe your cat likes to commit suicide by jumping from the 3rd floor if they climb over the net but ours do not.

In Sweden you are not allowed to adopt cats from any of the big shelters without showing proof that your (if you have one) balcony is completely netted in, pretty weird that it has gone past you lol

@@mino-the-cat you are right, not all cats have the instinct to run away. My friend has 4 cats, he regularly lets them out on his balcony with no issue. No net, they never tried to climb or jump down. They are just happy to watch the scenery.
I trust that if your cat developped a will to explore, you would have adjusted the catio accordingly. That being said, I hope lessons will never have to be learned the hard way (I hope no accidents happen).
I think the net is a good deterrant to jump directly ahead, and it is too weak to hold if the cat tried to climb. its easier for them to climb chain link fences because they are stable, but the net moves and doesnt provide a good balance. thats probably why they dont climb it. too much of a challenge for kitties who have a comfortable life and no desire to lose it.

You’re really funny 😆 I‘m not in Sweden and my cat does enjoy life a lot, maybe not yours. But I can’t make an assumption. Also here in Germany there are no such laws that you mentioned. Why should I know the laws in Sweden when I’m not living there, that’s pretty weird lol. And I’m basing my answer on 90 days of camera data, and now almost 2 years of actual experience with him and others playing on the balcony. I think that’s way more data comparatively. If that’s pathetic to you then you can make a 10 years statistic of Mino’s balcony endeavours with your own cameras if you fancy that 😂Anyways, I’m not here to argue, have a great day.
