    Europe's steel industry is in danger. China is selling steel in the EU at less than market value. Steel workers in Germany are scared of losing their jobs and are calling for more anti-dumping tariffs on Chinese steel.

    EU should regulate not the price but the environmental conditions under which the imported steel is produced. EU should demand the same environmental standard of origin. This is a way of controlling imports.

    So, the German government is doing absolutely nothing to protect such an important domestic industry. Once you lose an industry like this, it is very hard to get it back.

      You don't need high quality steel for everything..... And if they break quickly then they will make it again. Most companies nowadays are not trying to produce long lasting products so they don't care about low quality steel with which they make these products. Thank you

    protect essential industries under attack is what I believe. if what the video says is true, China is dumping it's cheap steel which is produced with allegedly few environmental constraints and perhaps poorly paid employees. no company producing steel that obeys the laws and offers employee protections can compete with that and a country cannot afford to allow it's essential businesses to be put out of business by another country. it makes the citizens and the government too vulnerable so German should provide at least partial protection to it's steel industry and other essential industries under similar attack

    These are inevitable consequences of open economy/free market.

    • @Godzilla52
      @Godzilla52 6 лет назад +5

      No, its the consequence of protectionism. The EU is extremely protectionist is several industries and so does China. Protectionism hurts both parties instead of helping them, Free trade helps both parties. When China or any country dumps steel or other cheap goods on an economy, they do it at a cost to themselves . The Chinese Tax pay is subsidizing the selling of goods below their production cost to foreign markets. So China is losing money while foreign markets are money because of China's stupidity. The same thing is true Europe's milk Industry. Don't blame the free market for the failure of protectionism.

      China's dumping practices, copyright violations, little to no environment regulations, etc are far more than unfair. They should have never been accepted into the World Trade Organization.

      The steel industry should be protected as chinas workers rights are sub par. Its not reasonable competiton when you have better wages and regulation. Steel prudoction is also an important industry that is not easily rebuilt when it ends prudoction. How would it help to have no regulation of essential industry? It can only be more cost effective by lowering standards and wages.

    The Chinese government subsidizes industries to remove foreign competition there is no choice but to use aggressive measures to protect western companies and industries. Sure it might mean us customer pay more for the end product but there are a few national priorities that are greater then the free market such as critical industry. and there is a need for a clear balance between free market, keeping China in check by making them dependent on their economy and protecting western industry. Strong leadership is needed to balance this.

    The exact same thing is happening in the solar PV market. Why won't our politicians act on this? The environmental damage caused by Chinese manufacturers should be enough reason to enforce tariffs.

    Why do the Germany manufacturers buy cheap Chinese steel instead of the more expensive domestic one, especially if the quality of the foreign product is inferior. But if the quality is the same then the users of steel should explain to their share holders that they reduce the profit margin by supporting the domestic steel producers patriotically.

    The matter of globalisation is not that important. It's simply rethorics, it is a simplistic tag used by sindicates when they don't want to bother explain the complex mechanisms of the markets to people who don't understand them.
    The real matter here is the chinese manipulation of their currency, allowing them to export more.
    But this can not last forever and will lead them in the end to recession. As someone commented here, it's only a matter of time.
    So stay strong !

    • @Godzilla52
      @Godzilla52 6 лет назад

      China manipulating it's currency and dumping cheap goods hurts China. The Chinese Taxpayer is paying to subsidize Chinese goods to sell them below production cost to forging markets. China is losing money through dumping and sending the money to foreign markets who make money from the cheap steel and other products by selling them at market costs. If China's dumb enough to think they're helping their own industries buy subsiding foreign consumers, let them. We get richer because of it. More problems are created by our governments saying it's unfair and imposing trade barriers on Chinese products, which makes things more expensive for us (Look at the effects of Bush and Obama's steel and tire tarrifs for an example) or Argentina's 25% tariff on all electronics.

    • @darklazerx7913
      @darklazerx7913 3 года назад

      Fine, but how do you solve this problem for the EU? You need protectionism from Chinese goods. Otherwise, EU's industry will dissapear and the EU will be dependent om China, and their terrible enviormental and working conditions.

    Does China have a gun to the heads of their customers . They are free to choose their sources . So . Where does the problem begin ? Punish the buyer ? I think that the buyer ( product manufacturer ) of the underpriced product is at fault . This demand fuels the overproduction .

    I believe in the innovativeness and ingenuity of Europeans.. One can create steel with a twist.. When China produces the 'ordinary' then beat them with what is 'special'.. That is what competition is all about.. Perhaps, the last resort would be LOYALTY..
