@@tammietriestoread I haven't read Blood Like Magic yet. Not big on romance subplots, and it sounds pretty central to the story, but might give it a whirl since I liked DM so much.
I've heard mixed reviews about Catherine House, but loved your perspective on the comparisons to Frankenstein. I've got a list of Frankenstein-adjacent books to read, so happy to add this one.
"this month's reading has not been going well", yes same here omg horrible horrible reading month :( i maybe should read catherine house cause it's been on my tbr for ages and u seemed so into it!!
I’m so glad you enjoyed catherine house!! it was one of my favorite reads of 2020. I remember I got it from the library, sat down to try a chapter, then devoured the rest in one sitting. the writing is so hypnotic I couldn’t stop!!
💐🥀🌺 Really happy to hear that you loved Catherine House. I have learned that I like to read modern gothic fiction. So, I have been on the search for some gothic fiction recs. Adding Catherine House to my TBR. I have The Last Tale of the Flower Bride on my TBR as well, even though I dnf'd The Gilded Wolves. Hearing your thoughts on the audiobook, I think I will stick to a physical read for it. As I am typing this comment, I am listening to the audio sample for it and really like hearing the male narrator's voice. Nonetheless, I am still excited to read Roshani Chokshi's adult debut, especially for this fairytale-esque gothic novel.
I seem to be one of the few people who actually liked the last tale of the flower bride lol. I can understand why you wouldn't want to read about a toxic person though.. she does get worse as the book goes on (though that's very intentional). I read it physically so I didn't know about the accent thing but yes that does tie in to something later in the book
The Last Tale of the Flower Bride is my most anticipated book of the year for me!! Oh noooo hahaha I’m worried now. I’m hoping this is stemming from the very strange audiobook narrations 😂
i really do think it's the audiobook! because the writing is honestly 10/10 and i think if i read it physically without the narrators distracting me it would be a much better experience
haha i was the same! i have such mixed feelings about her but her writing is really so beautiful that i'll still continue anticipating her releases for now 😂
i really didn't enjoy the audiobook of the last tale of the flower bride either haha and wasn't very invested in the characters or bridegroom's pov so i ended up giving it 3 stars

I had a similar reaction to the PoVs in Delicious Monsters, but I really liked the book as a whole.
i definitely did like it too, hence the 3ish star rating! it just wasn't as strong as her debut imo so i was disappointed

i don't mind the fact that she's toxic, i just didn't find her particularly interesting! glad to know the accents were done on purpose at least 😅

I love open ended endings and gothic vibes!! Catherine house is on my list!!
accents are the qiuckest way to ruin an audiobook. that and terrible voices
Great video bb 🌸💕

The Last Tale of the Flower Bride is probably one of my most anticipated books of the year even though I don't usually love Roshani Chokshi's books 😅
