I bought one of these about 12 years ago and am still enjoying it. I just rebuilt it with a HW brushless system, all Stainless steel screws, 17mm hexs and better tires. It's like that wrist watch... it takes a lickings and keeps on ticking !!!

I picked up a couple of those ECX trucks that where returns to the store (better known as trashed trucks) on Ebay. I rebuilt them for a couple of neighborhood kids that wanted to get into RC'ing a couple of years ago, but didn't have means to buy new ones. They are a inexpensive way to have a lot of fun! Even when you beat the snot out of them and break them, parts are super cheap (except the replacing tires) I know the two boys that I worked on their trucks had loads of fun for a couple of summers with them things and I had less than $150 into both of them combined. (Starting out) I probably had 300 into each of them by the time the boys moved away but I didn't have to mow grass for a couple of years so I was stoked!...lol they were worth every penny I put into those trucks just watching the boys have fun..

I'm a beginner and despite what people say, bought a traxxas jato 3.3 nitro buggy, super cold here in Sudbury Ontario so I was only comfortable doing the first tank of the break in process.. lmao but what a blast I had with that quarter throttle, such power and speed! I know beginners shouldn't really start with nitro, but, Im hungry to learn about engines, and I have a big drug problem. so anything thats not drugs to keep me occupied and literally off the streets is great for me! so excited, re learning how to tune nitro engines, breaking it in, learning how they work and how to upgrade and increase efficiency!!! thank you rcsparks! for reuniting me with a hobby I loved for the brief time when I was 12 and got my first nitro buggy that was so cheap, the engine broke down while breaking it in. now I have a quality engine to play around with once I'm done breaking it in, in the spring. & yeah, love it! you've definitely earned a new, and very loyal as well as enthusiastic subscriber/hobbiest my dude!!! ;) again, thank you for reconnecting me with a hobby I've always, literally ALWAYS found so captivating!
Maybe it's just the type of people that buy ours... We get them back all of the time for odd things broken. The one thing it does an awesome job at though is introducing people into the hobby. However it is not a truck really to grow with(IMHO).
Great choice medic, my brother, buddies and I bought Torrents last winter, and they are still going strong. They are water proof, we tested it many times, we drove them in the winter every day, and mine has been under 4ft of water. We put in Castle brush less systems and they are super fun. We have a video from when we picked them up, and a long term update too.
I bought this truck as my first rc i love it i just wish there was more upgrade parts i converted it to brushless and run 3s now i break something every time i go out but its a blast like u say u dont have fun till u break something
Normally companies skimp out on the bodies for cheap SCT's, this one looks perfect, the shape, colours and decals are awesome Congratulations ECX and Horrizon
Well, this certainly gives me a lot to think about. I'd been searching around for another short course truck for the past couple of years. I have a Slash and love it, but it wouldn't hurt to have another simple RTR SCT...just because. ;) I was leaning more towards the Associated ProLite, but the fact that this comes with an hour charger (i.e. not having to buy plugs for a different brand of battery) is pretty neat. The fact that it says "FULLY WATERPROOF" right on the box just sweetens the deal! I'll definitely put more research into it, guess we'll just have to wait and see when I've got some extra money to play with.
I'd never recommend a nimh battery to start, unless it's for like a kid under 12. There's no point, just go lipo first off. After a few charges worth of runs on nimh you want lipo. Love the vids mate!
Not to mention better tires than the slash ....also comes with a better stock charger ....and the slim chasi design helps keep it light and easy to jump ...
Teach your kid to drive it, ecx is soooo durable that he can drive it into aton of walls and jump it into whatever and it will be ok. Its a perfect car to learn on.
This was my first rc car. I got it when I was 7 and bashed it to death for 5 years as I am 12 now! The only thing that broke on it was I stripped the barrings... My dad bought the traxxas slash and raptor and broke them on the things that I was doing when mine didn't break! GREAT vehicle!
+Thundering Dragon I run it in sandy clay out where I live all the time! It won't be going 23 mph obviously but would be fun to put around with! Just give it a good bath after wards and oil everything up and you will be good!

This was my first r.c. I actually like it a lot I beat the crap out of it ...only weak points I say would be definitely the drive shafts after I went to a lipo keeped breaking those ...and rear body mounts after a couple flips starts to get soft ...other than that always keeps up with my brothers slash 2wd ...and beats it hands down in the corners ....slash with all that high center of gravity just rolls in the turns..

I have one andbits one of my favorite Rc's. It jumps nice andis pretty tough. I replaced the stock plastic gears with the heavy duty steel upgrade before I went brushless and haven't had any problems. I have jumped my full size truck with it on several occasions. Thumbsup Medic. Its good to see a po mans rc come across the rc sparks table from time to time lol :)
Dude I droped a brush less in there and it moves. . . I cut my fenders off and put some 2.8 trenchers and its a tank!!! I hope u like that truck u can't get a better one for the price
I'm from Canada and I got my hobby shop to order an ECX RTR. After 6 weeks of waiting I found out that they can't ship it to Canada because the charger doesn't meet Canadian safety regulation.
I love the cross wrench!!! This truck is amazing! The only thing I don't like is the fact that mine came with a 15 turn motor (instead f a 20, but not to big of a deal), and a charger that does not tell you when the charge is complete(big no, no).
Hi Medic how you doing? It's N8knox a follower of your adventures. What a weird bit of weather in your area I noticed.?.?. You may or may not remember I'm on a very limited budget. I can usually get about $200 together for my "hobbies and fun money" so this is something I'm very intrigued in. I came close to buying the 1/18 scale SC truck by Dromida fully RTR like this(and only $99) but I held off just to see if I could get a full 1/10 scale RTR. I really like the Red pick up 4x4 pathfinder or trailfinder scale truck but it's not in my price range. At this point I just want back in the hobby. Would love a scale truck but a SC is my 2nd choice and look forward to seeing this perform as is. Thanks for keeping guys on limited budgets in mind😊!!!
i had an ecx rc they are extremely durable only complaint I have about them is that they don't come with metal gears out of the box , and the electronics ( besides the radio and receiver) are horrible , but for another 100$ you can get a castle system and have one hell of a basher , and get metal gears about 20-25$
they don't have metal spur gears they make metal gears inside the transmission case , I only blew out one spur gear with my boost , that's another thing I wish they would fix , ya know ?
angelxofxdeath1111 To prevent stripping your Spur Gear again, check your gear mesh constantly, make sure the motor is tightened and won't move, loosen the slipper clutch a bit and don't land from a jump while on-throttle.

Looks like it has a pretty high center of gravity, because of the middle part of the chassis (and the battery which is quite heavy) being so high. Curious if it rolls on the lid easily.
both Red lights go around the white button and controller works Engine is cooled down after running it in tall grass at full speeds fully charged before i brought it out battery still charges and charger still. works so whats the problem if Anybody knows please help being having so much trouble with this truck
hi I have a traxxas slash 2wd and I was wondering what else I should get because ive only had the car for about a month. So do you know what I could get that's a decent price.
I have this truck and have played around for a year or two with it and I was thinking of upgrading to something 4WD and a bit more powerful but not ridiculously expensive. any ideas for me?
I'd recommend getting a less expensive rc car if you're new to the hobby. If you're looking into a good beginner car, I'd recommend the traxxas bandit or a 2wd slash. But if you want an x maxx or a slash 4x4, if go with a slash 4x4 :)
I have the same exact truck and it is really fun to use. Pretty soon I will be upgrading it to a brushless motor and Lipo battery. But I have a question, does the Lipo battery make the car go faster then with the oj battery?
I got one of the first generations one and it doesn't do to well in snow if it is more than 2 in. The only thing you can so in the snow is drift around. Check out some of my videos of it in the snow.
Hey rc sparks got a question. I've got the same thing except its brushless so not the same at all lol anyway. I've run into an issue where the thing only chirps when you try to hit the gas. Upon further investigation I found that the red wire to the motor was kinda half ass crimp connected. I've got new bullet plugs on the way hopefully that fixes the issue but if it doesn't where do you suggest I start looking to resolve the issue

Cool to see you doing reviews like this. The torment is a good basis for learning. I've had almost every ECX product, and they are a good value.
ECX is RTR batteries charger and all! ALSO they are VERY strong! LOVED mine! But a brushless motor in it and WOW!!!
I love the torment over my 2wd slash. To me its well balanced and sturdy! Best bang for buck!
For $180 that's a lot of truck.

Jacob is right I was at the track with my slash and a didn't see a torment and I shattered the shell, broke a control arm or two and both of the axles
bought my son one of these to get him started in rc bashing, for 159 bucks it was a great little truck

This was my first official truck getting into hobby rc. Mine wasn’t waterproof, but it probably was the bottom end version. Great truck.

Cool truck! The only downside is the Spektrum remote, I've had three and they've all broken for me.
I have 2 1/10 orange ecz torment and they are both brushless and I love them. I Also a 1/16 torment 4x4 and I love all of them

I recommend you getting upgraded drive shaft things and the esc will fall off heads up
