    This just may be the single best automotive how-to tutorial that I’ve ever seen. My wife’s CX-9 started running horribly yesterday. Out of nowhere, my gut feeling was that it was an ignition coil or a spark, plug, sure enough it kicked up a misfire on cylinder three (Natalie had to be cylinder three, the absolute worst one to replace). I’m handy, but I’ve never done anything like taking off the intake manifold. It took me a while, and I must’ve watched this video 10 times total but I was able to get through the entire job and it resolved the issue for 100 bucks out the door. If I brought that to a shop, it would’ve been hundreds more I’m sure because of the labor. Thank you much dude, you’re a lifesaver!!! Literally everything you need to do for this job is in this video.

    Thanks for this tutorial. My Mazda CX9 has been running horribly for a long time and thought it was a transmission issue but after reading some of the comments to this video I thought maybe it’s worth changing the plugs and the coils at the same time as it’s such a pain. WARNING there is one plug that is missing in the video on the back driver-side near the hose that is a bit of a pain to get out, I found it easier to pull it out of the top of the engine than to pull the clip off the Air intake. Also make sure no debris falls down into spark plug holes or intakes. Good luck. No misfire codes were up but was misfiring at about 1500rpm under light acceleration. Suspect original plugs at 250k km. Gap was 1.7mm. Recommend is 1.3_1.4mm. Not one miss after one week and better low down power. 👍👍

    This is very helpful for me, as a beginner with limited skills. Thank you. My buddy had a 2008 CX-9 Grand Touring that the water pump failed on - and he got a hefty estimate for the pump repair so I bought it from him because my next door neighbor is a great mechanic & recommended I get it so he can help me. That engine is too concerning for me after reading in forums that when the water pump fails, the coolant mixes with the engine oil... which is never good so I'm selling it because I don't want to take the chance, even though my neighbor thinks it's just laborious. I'll put the parts back together now after watching your video.

    • @DJR5280
      @DJR5280 5 лет назад +2

      Keep in mind Ford updated the water pump. It also has a weep hole that's supposed to leak externally out of the block before the pump fails and leaks coolant into the oil. Check your oil and coolant level when you fuel up and you'll be fine.

You've successfully squelched my concerns about doing this myself, a pain in the back side no doubt - but doable. You've also proven why this is worth it when paying a professional mechanic to do this - it's very involved and time consuming.

      Probably five hours or so. Only thing I did different is removed the fuel rail from the injectors by removing the clips while it was in the vehicle. My injectors were stuck so I didn't want to damage the rail by pulling the injectors out with the rail. Then I clamped some channel locks lightly on each injector and pried with a screwdriver on the jaw of the channel lock while pulling. That's only if they are too hard to just pull out. Reassemble the injectors, rail and clips like he did in the video, lube with some silicone grease lightly and they should seat in nicely. Make sure the clips are seated correctly. I gave the clips a little pinch before I reinstalled them. I also removed the battery, cleaned the intake manifold and cleaned the throttle body. Also you can leave the hose on the back left clamped on the manifold and just disconnect from the bottom because there is no clamp it just pulls off. Last thing, clean the injector ports real good. Mine were filthy. I used a Phillips screwdriver and covered the tip with a rag lightly turned the screwdriver in each port till they were clean. Very light though, you only want the rag touching no the tip of the screwdriver. Last thing, I removed the wire harness covering and replaced it because it was brittle and cracking, it will get everywhere so just replace it if it's cracking. I blew out the engine area and wiped the down till all the crud was gone. Sorry for the novel but it's fresh in my head. Hope this helps.

My mechanic is saying he cannot install my recently bought NGK LTR6IX-11 for my '08 because it is not the same size as my current one, and if the NGK ones are installed, it might hit the pistons which will cause serious damage to the engine. @@maolo76 How is this any different than with older cars? If you are somewhat handy with tools and want to invest the time, you do it yourself. If you aren't, you pay somebody.
      These days, you just pay them more than you would've 50 years ago ;).

    Great video and very helpful. Gould you write here also a cylinders order in mazda cx 9 v6 3,7 l, because i have cylinder #2 misfire. I'm pretty shure that i've to change an ignition coil, but i'm not shure which one is it. I've found new different opinions about that in the internet. Is the 2nd one rear in the middle?

      I am late by a year, but rear middle yeah. Pretty sure you figured it out by now 😁

    Okay so I did all of this without watching this video but I have a question. I ended up with an extra bolt that is the same as the bolts holding down the spark plug coil 8mm bolt except it is half as long. Any ideas where I took it out of?

    My only issue was a wire and plug not mentioned on the intake which killed me as I ripped the wire right out of the plug while shifting the intake to get to the last hose.

    Do you have to replace the intake gaskets. Is it one set or 2
    What’s the spark plug gap supposed to be. Just to be sure

    Assuming no broken or cracked connectors during this process, what's the ballpark for how long this will take someone who is moderately handy?

    The first model year for the CX-9 is 2007. It had a 3.5L engine during that first year.
