CARP FLATS | Fly Fishing For Carp On The Front Range Of Montana

In the late summer months when water temps are too warm for trout, we begin to look for tailing carp in the central Montana "Carp Flats". This particular area is stacked with big Carp and is shallow enough to see their backs wake through the water and tails up as they feed, just like Redfish.

For the production quality of this, i'm surprised the channel isn't bigger. But i'd love to fly fish for carp, i need to look for some places around me where i can actually catch them

Most cities stock them in lakes. Just be aware you need a heavy rod. I would recommend a 6-8 weight rod.

For sure some mud… cool thing about this spot there are large areas of just hard bottom as well.
