This is LA. He's originally from a tiny village in North Wales, but he's been based out of Brighton in southern England for most of the past 12 years or so. He mostly lives in Calgary, Canada currently, where his doctors are based because he needs almost constant medical care, but he travels when he gets the chance. He's been back to the UK a few times, and he made this trip to LA. I'm not 100% sure, but he's been working on a project for Netflix, and besides this video, I think he was there working on that.
Ren's giving homage to Damian Marley's Welcome To Jamrock in his new opening. After that Ren then gives homage to Dr. Dre with the guitar riff from "Next Episode" ft. Snoop Dog. Also the Toblerone line he say's "Beotch" this time instead of "Bitch" which he said in the original, this time it's a homage to Snoop Dog who made that slang famous. ❤🤯❤All this because he's recording this in L.A. ❤🤯❤. Ren's guitar solo was also an homage to another one of Ren's musical influences Django Reinhardt, probibly one of the most famous Jazz guitarist who, if I'm not mistaken, was actually the 1st person to bring Jazz to the UK. That was very much a 30-40's Jazz riff reminiscent of Reinhardt's music..
@@ChrisLawton66 I realize Levy was the original writer/performer of Murderer but I refer to Damien Marley's Jamrock because he made it famous all over and Ren performed Jamrock busking in Brighton many times.
@@robmarar I merely mentioned Levy because if we're going to list all of the influences on this track, his is without question the primary influence and should be at least mentioned.
Yes the line murderer, is taken from a Jamaican singer name Barrington Livey and hot the hotstepper line is from another Jamaican song by Inie Kamoze go check them ones out, so your mate was partially correct
The beginning is tribute to Damien Marley - Jamrock (of which he has done busking), the “murderer” chorus is homage to Barrington Levy from his track of the same name from 1993 iirc. In the middle he did the DRE riff which I presume is as it came out on the 50th anniversary of hiphop. R.E. no sun in the U.K. we do have sun, maybe 2 days a year if we are lucky 😂😂 but yeah this was LA. He’s from the Isle of Anglesey in Wales but spent a big chunk of his adult life in Brighton, England but has been in Calgary Canada since January having treatment for his brain damage etc due to the misdiagnosis’. You need to go further down the rabbit hole but also get your mate in on it, he doesn’t have a clue what’s coming 😂🖤
Yeah, it was just a brief break from his treatments. I think he had some meetings while there. He’s got a bracelet on in this video because he attended a concert that day.
Hey!! Love this reaction!! So enthusiastic and authentic! BK girl here myself. Love that we appreciate the same music!! Thanks for sharing this with us. All love ❤
watch Ren's right hand in every "live" or "one take" video where he's playing the guitar or singing over someone playing the guitar. Whoever he's with watches his right hand and Ren is doing his thing and counting out the beat like "1, 2, 3, 4" and then he'll point or close his fist and the other people come in or cut out at the perfect moment. Rapper, poet, producer, musician, and add conductor to the list too.
@@Bklynreau Tbh British weather is a bit all over. We don't get a lot of hot days (we do get some), but when we do it's usually very hot (at least to us, not sure if it would be to someone used to it). Looking at last year for example, the hottest day was just over 40C (104F), but our common hot days usual average in low to mid 30's (86 to 95F). A common saying in the UK is it's either too cold or much too hot, lol. Probably why a lot of us love the rain, you know what you're gonna get, and we get a lot of it ;) Love the reactions to Ren, bro, keep em coming, especially with your mates. Respect from England

Big up to our hometown on anglesey I won't say it incase he doesn't want it to be public where he came from
@@WelshAmethystGirl087 he's discussed it in several interviews. I don't think he's ashamed of his roots at all.
@@jasonremy1627 fair enough but I've never heard him mention the town by name so maybe I need to watch more interviews I was trying to be respectful
He’s working on scripts to put to Netflix it in the future, we all hope. 🤞

Great reaction guys! Also, it's not a cover. This is the acoustic version of Murderer, which is a song he wrote and performed.
thank u
the 1st bar is a Barrington levy sample
This is LA, which accounts for him dropping a nod to Dr. Dre with the Next Chapter vibe.
thats LA❤
Don’t let Your friend watch any Ren,
Watch them together
You make a good Team
I’ve Subbed

I agree. Bring him back 😊
The first line is from another artist but the rest is his lyrics
Yeah Barrington Levy. See MrJBoyd’s reaction of ‘Murderer’ - for more info

Great Ren reaction, keep them rolling if you could please 🐊🙏❤️👍🦉

Your friend thought it was a cover because the opening line of this performance (but not the studio version) is from Welcome To Jamrock.
