We have a Russian food store not far from our home, and they carry a lot of Eastern European food, so we go there about once a month to get breads, cheese, smoked meats (my favorite) and fish. My mother is from Eastern Europe and my wife also. So, my entire life, even though I was born here in America, I get to enjoy all the things from Eastern Europe. Thank you for sharing this video. Very accurate assessment of Russian products. The "REAL" supermarket chain has everything and more compared to even the biggest of American supermarkets. I lived in Kazan for several years and always enjoyed the local farmers markets and supermarkets. Good job on the video.
Wow, I have never cooked with oil, ever, I always used George Foreman grill and grill everything. Never used sugar or butter either, nor cream or cheese, eggs, bread, I use lots of milk, chicken, rice, cereal (muesli) fruit, coffee, vegetables, I think I could live quite cheap in Russia. There is Russian cafe in my town called Babushka, I was told beetroot soup is most popular called Borsch (not sure if borsch is spelled right.)

For Russian standard it's a small provincial town, you are right, the population is around 1 000 000 with suburbs, and it's a very cultural town, but still, many people in Russia and especially in Moscow would call Saratov - a village.
Thank you Brandon, I'm a bit busy right now planning a trip around the world :-) In Russia we have a lot of foreign food, but Saratov has many farms so we eat mostly fresh food from local farmers :-)

Wow, it's a bit more expensive than I thought. Food is cheaper in the UK for sure and the wages are much higher. Average wage in my town is £29,000 a year. 4 pints of milk so 2.3 litres is 1 pound. This is actually too cheap and the shops don't make money on this and it is just away to get you to shop in their store. Cheap loaf of bread 50p but a nice loaf would be £1.50. Cheese for the same amount would be £3. Very interesting and thanks for the video

The prices are 60 - 70% as here in Washington State US BUT what You have there is REAL FOOD! We only get mass produced hormone and MSG filled Corn Glucose Crap that is barely even food! Romania integrates perfectly among the slavic nations(my opinion) but the single difference is the language now, but in the past we used a bigger number of slavic words and some of them still remained today! check for: Romanian words of slavic origin

I am from Wisconsin, so Prices vary a great deal over the US, we grow a lot of dairy so dairy is less expensive as is ground beef. But for me I would say your meat is more expensive kielbasa is usually about 5 dollars and can be found on sale for about 3 dollars . pork cam be found for about 2 dollars a pound and chicken that same , beef ground or stew meat is about 4 dollars a pound and steak cuts are about 6-9 dollars a pound depending on the cut Your milk is slightly cheaper a liter for us it is about 2 dollars/1.89 liters. Eggs we can get for 1 dollar when on sale and 2 dollar when not on sale and they sell by the dozen not 10. price varies a bit over the year. We also have farmers markets in season carrots 1/2 Kilo peeled is 90 cents to 1.50 in the grocery store. and 50 cents a 1/2 kilo at the farmers market. Farmers markets start in about June and run through the end of september and we have similar prices for fresh vegetables at the farmers market. canned vegetables at the store are about 50-80 cents for a 425 gram can. Pretty sure nothing made with fish eggs is ever on my grocery list lol!

In St.Petersburg, prices of rent is more lower than Moscow and they is about 20 000 - 23 000 roubles or 580 - 670$ per month. About price of entire apartment i don't know but i think that it near to Moscow prices. Get a citizenship is much easier than in America. You need to know just basic knowledge of Russian language. You don't need to wait five years and you don't need to pass exams for it. It's much easier. You don't even have to marry on somebody but it still an option. I don't talk about job. Of course it depends what you can do. If you don't have a good profession for example you are lawyer (yes it's bad because in Russian every 1 persone from 10 is a lawyer) or something like that, you will don't find good work. But if you know Russian language very well it's good opportunity to earn good money because teaching Endglish language is very much in demand in our country and well paid. The "green" or "back to the land" movement in the USA is new but in Russia it's over a century old and still growing in popularity.

girl38rockify well, we call it Soviet attitude :) never smile and look with suspicion at a stranger :) unfortunately, it's very common, especially within older generation, don't take it personally :) well, if they don't speak English you can find in the Internet what you would like to try, make a note or print a list of products in Russian and give it to them, I'm sure they will'be more helpful :)

Lots of us grow our own vegetables though 95% of all veg bought is from supermarkets. That chicken is cheap. Not true: contaminated areas are huge. Belorus is rather higher contaminated though, which does not stop it to be a largest milk powder supplier for Russia.
so everything costs the same as in America, pretty much, but the difference is that even the lowest paid American makes $7.25/hr in theory, in reality these days everyone is paid about $10/hr.
I am from Wisconsin. we have had milk in bags here from the Kwik trip convenience store for over twenty years. It is the cheapest way to buy milk and it is very fresh because they turn over the product faster because it is cheaper . They have a reusable pitcher you can set the bag in. better storage as the bags are opaque so you do not lose vitamins and less mass for the waste.
Same here in Mexico, besides bagged milk, also have powdered milk and milk in those non refrigerated tetra-pak containers, requiring refrigeration upon opening the container.

Not true: contaminated areas are huge. Belorus is rather higher contaminated though, which does not stop it to be a largest milk powder supplier for Russia.

so everything costs the same as in America, pretty much, but the difference is that even the lowest paid American makes $7.25/hr in theory, in reality these days everyone is paid about $10/hr.

Bagged milk? BAGGED MILK! What kind of sacrelige is this?!
I am from Wisconsin. we have had milk in bags here from the Kwik trip convenience store for over twenty years. It is the cheapest way to buy milk and it is very fresh because they turn over the product faster because it is cheaper . They have a reusable pitcher you can set the bag in. better storage as the bags are opaque so you do not lose vitamins and less mass for the waste.
Same here in Mexico, besides bagged milk, also have powdered milk and milk in those non refrigerated tetra-pak containers, requiring refrigeration upon opening the container.
