You know. These spiders are the thing of nightmares. But, with this video, it just proves that even terrifying things are just scary things that fascinate. It is absolutely breathtaking how gentle all of your spiders really are. With the reputation this species has, I am so amazed at exactly how calm the male really was when moving him. Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful.
Not to mention it's a primitive creature with nowhere near our level of understanding or intelligence... it most likely has no idea wtf is going on all it knows is its home is being destroyed by an aggressive giant hand
Most of them attack only as self-defence and if they don't feel you as a threat they will just crawl on you and that's it. People are scared cause they look intimidating.
Dave, you are my favorite channel for spider videos, which I am deathly afraid of...your calm demeanor is soothing to me as well as to your spiders...thanks! It is a form of therapy for me to watch...its called flooding in Psychology.

Hi there Dave, do we have a version of the funnel web in britain? I've seen a few of them in the past, even got a really good photo of a massive 1 10 years or so ago. But maybe able to find the photo if you ever wanted to have a look
@Dave's Little Beasties cheers for your reply, after looking into it again it looks like it was a green fanged tube Web spider. Can see why i thought small British funnel Web, ha.
No idea how this came up on my youtube suggestions but im glad it did, such a fascinating video! I live in Sydney and these funnel webs are so feared but its always interesting to learn about them and their behavior. Well done Dave, brilliant!
Japanese funnel webs should be introduced to Sydney to see if they could introduce some "chill" genes to the Sydney funnel webs. Of course, Australia pretty much seems to make everything maximally deadly...
I didn’t know they had Japanese funnel webs ? Why do people keep such deadly pets? Wow the webbing is amazing! I’m quite captivated watching you carefully work
These aren't known to be as toxic as the Australian funnelwebs (Atrax/Hadronyche/Illawarra), who've been reclassified as Atracidae, whereas Macrothele stays in the Hexathelidae family. I did read of a case of a 4 year old being bitten and hospitalized in Taiwan - "Lab data showed leukocytosis and mild hypoglycemia. 10% Calcium gluconate, glucose-containing fluid, antihistamine and prophylactic antibiotics were prescribed. Patient was discharged under stable condition 48 hours later. The spider was finally confirmed as Macrothele sp." It's important to note that this was a 4 year old and not an adult, it could have been M. holsti, taiwanensis or Gigas and although the boy was given treatment and recovered there is no antivenin, so although envenomation is likely to be VERY unpleasant, it is in not proven to be deadly - not that I'd volunteer to test it out!
Its also very cool to see the male basically telling the female he wants to do it outside the hole because he feels uncomfortable without a way of escape, or atleast thats what i think is happening lol
This is truly incredible. I don't think I've ever seen a male so aggressive towards a female like this. Telling her to keep her distance or he WILL strike. Very unusual indeed. Fantastic video.
Oh bloody Hell, the Aussie funnel webs are bad enough... Japan has giant ones?! Why?! Ok, seriously though, this video is fascinating, thank you for your work in learning more about these critters.
All my life, I've had an incredible case of arachnophobia. "People fear what they don't understand", I was told and therefore, I tried my hardest to learn lots and lots about them. Spent a year in the Australian bush, and I thought that after that, I would never look upon tiny European spiders and fear them. It didn't work. I've been in contact with someone that keeps spiders as a hobby. He had one of his Tarantulas crawl over my hand. Didn't work. In fact, made it worse. I cannot even peel shrimp now. Crabs, lobsters, larger insects are now all included in my irrational fears. But, because I looked up all this spider stuff in the past, RUclips still recommends me spider videos every so often. To me this is a horror movie. A very informative, scientific horror movie. And in some weird, self punishing way, I am intrigued and look forward to seeing the spider babies.
@@daveslittlebeasties That is highly doubtful, and fine, too. It was fun to watch, though. I've seen the [Sydney] Funnel Web spiders, but not the actual funnel webs that they spin. It was.. fun.. getting such a good view of it.
Arachnophobia extending to shrimp, etc? LOL ...Like the protagonist in "Starship Troopers" (book). It'd be hilarious to remake the ruinously shitty movie, opening with a closeup of this guy's video at first to rickroll the audience into thinking that Hollywood used live spiders to skimp on the FX budget.
@@JakeWitmer There is two things you don't understand. 1. It's neither the concept, the knowledge nor the idea of spiders that frightens me. It's the sight of them that greatly disturbs me. 2. Starship Troopers is an an incredibly awesome movie, and in no way, shape or form should it ever be remade.. But it's satire. You have to get it to appreciate it.
@@redelephantsdotnl There are a thousand things you apparently don't understand: 1) I never claimed to know your relationship with spiders. I get that it's fear/revulsion, and it's a common thing among human beings, somewhat myself included. (Even so, the guy who created the golden shawl also overcome his fear of spiders, before harvesting silk from over 1M of them, in Madagascar...) The Starship Troopers book describes how the main character is revolted by spiders, and doesn't like anything remotely like them...'won't even touch shrimp or crabs served in fancy Earth restaurants...' IIRC 2) Starship Troopers is a shitty movie that communicates a dumbed-down version of a message that is diametrically opposed to the one the book created and explored. Verhoeven is, politically, a dumb socialist/leftist whose admittedly brilliant Robocop positioned him to misinterpret and (as he's admitted in interviews) completely ignore Heinlein's brilliant source material. This is almost a hanging offense. ...I say that Starship Troopers is 'a shitty movie' because (a) it stripped all the genius-level ideas of Heinlein out of it, and reiterated the uninformed leftist thinking that already dominates dumber-than-shit Hollywood. (b) it completely ignored the source material, by design (c) James Cameron was so inspired by Starship Troopers that he had the actors who played the marines in 'Aliens' read it before they began their roles, and that decision alone resulted in a far better movie than 'Starship Troopers.' ...but Verhoeven couldn't be bothered to even have even enough casual respect for the source material that he'd read it, _himself_ much less, assign it to the actors. (d) The book explores in detail whether or not a mostly-free-and-democratic society can be continually-tested by a determined military enemy, and still retain its democratic capacity or its individual freedom, or whether it's only possible when dealing with an enemy that one profiles as 'human' (e) Verhoeven stated in an interview that some dumber-than-shit leftist friends of his claimed that Robert Heinlein was "a fascist" and that "the message of the book is pro-fascist" so he mindlessly believed them, and didn't even read the book. Nor did he even slightly investigate their claims. In point of fact, Heinlein was the most anti-fascist, anti-totalitarian, and pro-freedom author the world has ever produced, so Verhoeven sinks further in my opinion for being such a dolt that he listened to his stupid and uninformed friends. If Verhoeven had not titled his movie "Starship Troopers," it might be said that he made a semi-entertaining kids movie about poorly-armed and poorly-armored people fighting 'evil space bugs,' based on a far-removed bastardization of some '1950s-style' sci-fi ideas that, themselves, are bastardizations of James Cameron's 'Aliens,' which was, itself, intelligently inspired by the actual Heinlein source material. In any case, the book deserves to be made into a movie that's respectful of the source material, and I'm fairly confident that it will be, after "The Moon Is A Harsh Mistress" is faithfully adapted. A few years ago the Heinlein book, "The Puppet Masters" was partially faithfully adapted, and it wasn't terrible until it was 'forced' to deviate from the source material by all the nudity in the source material. (People not allowed to go outside clothed, lest a space slug be attached to them somewhere, controlling their nervous system.) Hollywood got the tone right, but couldn't bring itself to show nudity or the desperation of the humans depicted in the book. Ah well, at least it didn't depict _the_ _opposite_ _of_ _a_ _pro-individualist_ _message._ ...Additionally, aesthetics-wise, actual spiders are far more terrifying than the spiders in the Verhoeven movie, and the same was not true of the ones depicted in the Heinlein book. Heinlein's diamondoid-exoskeleton spiders digging through rock like a burrowing spider on Earth sounding like frying bacon as they get closer is a terrifying thought...(fairly well-depicted by James Cameron's 'Aliens' on the rifle-mounted radar units) ...as are the first armored K-9 units committing suicide when they encountered 'giant spiders' ...because the situation was 'one they weren't evolved to process.' ...maybe like dogs barking at coconut crabs here on Earth... In any case, everyone should read Heinlein's books, and think more advanced thoughts. .02.
@@daveslittlebeasties would you know if the japanese version is venemous? If it is does it share the same toxins as the sydney version? Obviously not being as potent if it does?

Thank you this is what we are trying to show, if you done annoy them they are pretty good natured 👍
Very fair statement about aggression and defensive. Imagine if someone was disrupting your home what would you do ? You would defend it.
Not to mention it's a primitive creature with nowhere near our level of understanding or intelligence... it most likely has no idea wtf is going on all it knows is its home is being destroyed by an aggressive giant hand
I'm absolutely terrified of spiders yet I still find these videos interesting.
Thats awsome my friend 👍
Most of them attack only as self-defence and if they don't feel you as a threat they will just crawl on you and that's it. People are scared cause they look intimidating.
the sound the legs make inside the plastic container give me shivers.
Omg yes 😱
I know right!!! It made my eye twitch 🤢🤢
@Romeo @victoriareffin Why do you ask?
@@victoriareffin2429 you got gottemed
@@odk1105 I have no idea what that means 😂
What’s the difference between the Sydney Funnel Web and the Japanese Funnel Web?
Different groups and the Sydney is much more venomous 👍
this is absolutely fascinating. i'm 15 minutes into it and i was so hoping there would be no attacking spiders and so far so good. just fascinating.
❤️❤️❤️❤️👍
I hate Spiders but I was fascinated from start to finish. Such misunderstood creatures
"He's coming through the backdoor." Giggity.
“I don’t think he did inseminate her. If he did then he would have took off after.” This video is comedic gold.
Did you miss the part where he came flying out of the burrow ?
Went to get the "spider milk" 😏
Dave, you are my favorite channel for spider videos, which I am deathly afraid of...your calm demeanor is soothing to me as well as to your spiders...thanks! It is a form of therapy for me to watch...its called flooding in Psychology.
Thats awesome ❤️❤️❤️
You're so incredibly calm and I love how your content is relaxing despite being about one of the faster spiders out there who tends to bolt in a skiddish fashion. I definitely flinched a few times and you just calmly go on with what you needed to do. I'm impressed~
Thank you so much!
Dave, you are the bravest man on this website, holy shit.
And this male spider is a distant second. And then your cameraman is #3.
Thank you my friend 😂❤️❤️❤️
Their webbing is incredible. I never hear about this species. In fact, I didn’t realise Japan had such a spider.
Also, I had a mint heart attack whenever your fingers went inside the enclosure. 😱
They truly are a magical spider 👍
Hi there Dave, do we have a version of the funnel web in britain? I've seen a few of them in the past, even got a really good photo of a massive 1 10 years or so ago. They loo exaactly like a funnel web except smaller. But with the exact same shiny black appearance... And there was no way i was gonna pick it up either! ha. But maybe able to find the photo if you ever wanted to have a look
No we dont have anything like them here 👍
@Dave's Little Beasties cheers for your reply, after looking into it again it looks like it was a green fanged tube Web spider. Can see why i thought small British funnel Web, ha.
"We'll put all his stuff back" ... his books, CDs etc.
Sometimes I can almost hear Steve Irwin's voice in the background exclaiming, _"Crikey!"_
😂😂😂😂
No idea how this came up on my youtube suggestions but im glad it did, such a fascinating video! I live in Sydney and these funnel webs are so feared but its always interesting to learn about them and their behavior. Well done Dave, brilliant!
Same here
Thank you som much glad you enjoyed it 👍❤️
Japanese funnel webs should be introduced to Sydney to see if they could introduce some "chill" genes to the Sydney funnel webs. Of course, Australia pretty much seems to make everything maximally deadly...
Edge of my seat and halfway up my wall watching this. You're amazing, Dave.
"These are extremely dangerous and fast spiders."
*touches webs with finger*
Me: *sweats nervously*
Im fully aware of where he is at all times 😂👍
I didn’t know they had Japanese funnel webs ?
Why do people keep such deadly pets?
Wow the webbing is amazing!
I’m quite captivated watching you carefully work
These aren't known to be as toxic as the Australian funnelwebs (Atrax/Hadronyche/Illawarra), who've been reclassified as Atracidae, whereas Macrothele stays in the Hexathelidae family.
I did read of a case of a 4 year old being bitten and hospitalized in Taiwan -
"Lab data showed leukocytosis and mild hypoglycemia. 10% Calcium gluconate, glucose-containing fluid, antihistamine and prophylactic antibiotics were prescribed. Patient was discharged under stable condition 48 hours later. The spider was finally confirmed as Macrothele sp."
It's important to note that this was a 4 year old and not an adult, it could have been M. holsti, taiwanensis or Gigas and although the boy was given treatment and recovered there is no antivenin, so although envenomation is likely to be VERY unpleasant, it is in not proven to be deadly - not that I'd volunteer to test it out!
Its also very cool to see the male basically telling the female he wants to do it outside the hole because he feels uncomfortable without a way of escape, or atleast thats what i think is happening lol
imagine that with humans
This is truly incredible. I don't think I've ever seen a male so aggressive towards a female like this. Telling her to keep her distance or he WILL strike. Very unusual indeed. Fantastic video.
OI! not ALL us males are ruled by their 'Spinerettes' :[
Stick with us mate you will get better 👍👍
@@redelephantsdotnl There are a thousand things you apparently don't understand:
1) I never claimed to know your relationship with spiders. I get that it's fear/revulsion, and it's a common thing among human beings, somewhat myself included. (Even so, the guy who created the golden shawl also overcome his fear of spiders, before harvesting silk from over 1M of them, in Madagascar...) The Starship Troopers book describes how the main character is revolted by spiders, and doesn't like anything remotely like them...'won't even touch shrimp or crabs served in fancy Earth restaurants...' IIRC
2) Starship Troopers is a shitty movie that communicates a dumbed-down version of a message that is diametrically opposed to the one the book created and explored.
Ah well, at least it didn't depict _the_ _opposite_ _of_ _a_ _pro-individualist_ _message._
...Additionally, aesthetics-wise, actual spiders are far more terrifying than the spiders in the Verhoeven movie, and the same was not true of the ones depicted in the Heinlein book. Heinlein's diamondoid-exoskeleton spiders digging through rock like a burrowing spider on Earth sounding like frying bacon as they get closer is a terrifying thought...(fairly well-depicted by James Cameron's 'Aliens' on the rifle-mounted radar units)
...as are the first armored K-9 units committing suicide when they encountered 'giant spiders' ...because the situation was 'one they weren't evolved to process.' ...maybe like dogs barking at coconut crabs here on Earth...
In any case, everyone should read Heinlein's books, and think more advanced thoughts. .02.
Next time, try a little Barry White to set the mood.
Japanese Spiders prefer Baby Metal. 🕷️
I just think it's so cool when they web up their entire enclosure. They really are amazing creatures.
same and it also gives me Arachnophobia (1990) vibes hehe
*Me, who has a lifelong fear of spiders and who would probably cry if I saw a tiny jumping spider on the bed next to me:* Ooh, interesting!
Oh no - not me... these things should be burned with fire.
Same. Remote viewing only, though

The fact that It’s a spider doesn’t scare me, what scares me is the fact that it’s one of the most deadliest spider’s on the planet.🕷
These are not the Sydney funnel web ?
@@daveslittlebeasties would you know if the japanese version is venemous? If it is does it share the same toxins as the sydney version? Obviously not being as potent if it does?
@@justarandompersonontheinte5044 Yes they are venomous but dont carry the same toxins as the Sydney but still strong just not enough to kill you 👍
Imagine that a giant spider comes by and just pull the ceiling of your house off, take you out your bed and put you into a box. After that the spider says "Nah, I'm sure you can rearenge that house later". How would that feel? 😂😂😂 Just joking with ya. Amazing video, I love spiders.
I would definitely be startled 😂 also, that's funny to imagine 😂
These are fascinating! I see now that human intervention really isn’t possible during mating, not with all those web caves. The male’s survival is due to his own ingenuity, which really sucks given their unicorn status.
The sound of the male scurrying in the container is ghastly.
😂😂😂😂
I'm not sure what I've been watching that would cause the algorithm to suggest videos of giant spider sex, but I did watch to the end.
Welcome christie ❤️👍
I was wondering if they were going to kill each other. But then I realized that they aren't even married yet.
Are we still making "haha marriage sucks" jokes in 2021? You chose to get married. Especially if you're a guy as you're likely the one who made the proposal. Married men also live longer than un-married men on average. The opposite is the case for women. So women should be complaining about marriage if anything.
@@DM-nw5lu If this kind of joke gets you triggered to a point you cant help yourself and brag about gender equality and what not, even if you are right, you probably die alone anyways. Do you really think that nagging at innocent people for making harmless jokes actually helps your cause? Only thing you achieve with this behavior is to create more people who use term like SJW or femnazi unironically.
@@thefearhawk8805 I'm annoyed and bored. Not triggered.
@@DM-nw5lu even worse...
@@thefearhawk8805 Sure? I just genuinely don't get why men depict marriage as torture when they're the ones that chose it. Explain that to me?
