Sorry to hear SMCR has problems Greg. I keep thinking of getting a KTM and then I hear another story like yours for a bike that’s been well maintained. I think I’ll wait a little longer.
Had a KTM 1290s could not be relied on, constant electrical problems
My SMCR 2016' has 80.000 km without major problems. Runs like new (y)
Greetings from the USA, land of Harley Davidson. Harley riders are sensitive because they know in their hearts they overpaid for an over-weight, under-powered bike that won’t turn, solely because it has HD stickers on the tank.
I'm a Brit and own a Harley Davidson Fatbob114 amongst other bikes and the Harley is my favourite.

@marcoluoma3770 I used to be all Japanese and maybe a little Italian when it came to bikes. The more I read, heard, and seen with Harley's, the less I liked them. That was until I rode one. Absolutely love my Dyna low rider. 113hp at the tyre. It's comfy, it sounds great and boy does it have some presence.

Hey Greg, keep us in on your 690s story if you don't mind. Keep thinking of adding 1 to my garage had plenty of the 640s 660s, 950s and 990s but keep looking at the 690. Every thing i read led me to believe they're reliable.

I agree, don't take a backpack on a tour. I'd add to travel light as light as you can. You don't need to take as much as you think. I wouldn't even take a change of clothes. Just buy t-shirts and the like on your travels. A pair of jeans and a comfy pair of shoes along with basic tools is mostly all you need.
You chaps need to get on the gs love. They are an awesome do everything motor cycle. I’ve got a litre naked and a gsa 1250 and the gsa is fun in fact both are fun in there separate ways.

Giving road example from france with better tarmac is 🎯 i agree. Uk uses very cheap tarmac & if weather is excuse swiss roads get more snow than uk

Enjoyed that particularly the shitty roads problem,adventure bike is anthema for me, strongly drawn to the M1000R for its adaptable suspension but the ‘wings’🙈looking forward to the rebuild of the motard and Mossy content 👍🏻

For my 3 bike garage, I'd go for the Ducari Street Fighter V2, I'd agree with Gregg and have a new Honda Gold Wing, and for the 3rd bike, I'd keep my 2018 1290 Super Adventure S.
Oh, I might have to break the rules and have a Ducati MultiStrada V4 Pikes Peak as my Backup bike. But I think the 1290 might be more reliable 😂

I don't think there's technically been any "road" tax for many years. The tax is for the vehicle and emissions etc. No requirement for it to go back into roads unfortunately. As likely to be spent on immigrant hotels or debt interest! Toll roads would be the answer. M6 toll is perfect surface and never busy.

Not sure about KTM reaching capacity in Austria as I thought I had read that KTM had made 300 redundant and moving more manufacturing to China for the cheap labour.
I think KTM alliance with China will eventually come back to haunt them

Ducati, "peaky"...no good as a ADV bike,so the engine would need a redesign, if that is to be used for other models?

I once heard the UK has a road system built for 20,000,000 cars, with 40,000,000 cars on it.
Though, I think the answer is the UK government wastes money on what city dwellers want, and appeasing their feelings, than bothering to sort out the nitty gritty things that a country actually needs addressing.

Sadly your vehicle tax, supposedly based on emissions, has nothing to do with the money spent on roads. That comes out of general income tax etc. Nobody in the UK has ever paid "road tax" as most people understand it unless you're old enough to have been driving in the 1950s.

CFmoto already outdoing KTM in classes that they share. All CFmoto needs to do is release a supersport (600cc, 675cc, 750cc, 1000cc) and KTM has nothing to compete with it.

Please do more stuff than tourers. I know everyone is different but touring tests with the Tracer etc are boring as (sorry boys who love those bikes, it just sends me to sleep).
I'd love to see more unique, but exciting content that people aren't tending to do. Used exciting bikes group tests (if you can partner with a good bike company), like for sub £5k, £10k.
Compare winners to modern new bikes. KTM Superduke generation back to back tests. That kind of thing.
Gregory is going to excellent to do additional tests, you two are good foil 90% the time and like two children 10% the time lol.
