It truly is amazing... people who have to live with health issues become "doctors" themselves, and know so much about what they need! And especially people like YOU who want to help others with what you've figured out!! BRAVO!! 😊

I think that its wonderful what you are doing. I'm so glad that I ran across one of your videos. To be honest I wish I would have seen them before now. You are an inspiration to anyone that has an osteomy. I just wish that I would have kept my osteomy rather than getting a 2nd j-pouch. I'd be a lot better off. Live and learn.

So I am very new to an ileostomy. Just got it April '23. I got the stoma dome right away b/c I didn't like the feel of anything touching the stoma for example a seatbelt. It's fantastic. No one notices it no matter what I wear and you will want the velcro to keep it where you want it. It helps when you're wearing tighter clothing and allows for output to flow down. If you're working out and need to be on your stomach it protects the stoma. You'll find many ways it improves your comfort. I wear it 24/7. When you need more velcro you can just order that and don't have to reorder the plastic piece over and over again. I hope it works for you as much as it has for me.

Hi from Boston!! I’ve been wearing the stoma Dome for a couple of years. I had the same problem w high waisted pants. But it’s also good for when my dog snuggles w me and his back is against my belly, the dome helps keep my output flowing when it used to pancake when the dog laid against me!! Happy 2024!!!

My favorite product I bought last year was a Stoma Goggle! It's a big suction cup that goes over your bag for while you're in the shower to keep your bag and wafer dry... it's silly and not totally necessary, sure, but I do really love it (and I've found that it keeps my wafer from peeling away prematurely, since I can make a bag+wafer last a whole week).

I also just switched to Liquid IV. The peach flavor is too sweet for me. I’ve been mixing the peach 1/2 and 1/2 with unsweetened decaf iced tea. You can use caffeinated tea…I feel better without the caffeine so that’s my choice. Anyway, I love the peach tea combo. I agree w Maggie, it’s thickened up my flow a little bit. Yay for small victories!

I used Thermacare heat patches or the CVS brand for period cramps. They helped a lot when I was working full time. The instructions say to stick them to your skin. I reversed them and stuck them to my underwear. My skin is too sensitive for most adhesives.

Hi Maggie, for cramps I highly recommend Buscopan (hyoscine butylbromide). I was in hospital for severe period related issues and one of the nurses casually said "oh we all use (this medication) so we can go about our day when cramps are bad".
I had it in the house for IBD anyway (severe bowel cramps) and it actually works!
*Disclaimer make sure you ask your doctor, especially if you are on any other medication.
We can buy it over the counter (not prescription) in the uk so I imagine its not particularly dangerous!
The other life saver product i bought after ostomy was a U shaped body pillow. Hands down the best purchase EVER as I sleep so well now!

For period patches, my sister has some gnarly period symptoms and her stomach doesn't tolerate pills, so she will use pain relieving patches on her back and abdomen (usually the Icy Hot brand). Tiger Balm has some great products she uses, as well. My sensitive skin won't tolerate any of that, but she swears by both the patches and balm.

I take the liquid iv and put it in a bottle, dissolve it in a little warm water, shake it up and then add the cold water to it and shake it again. I store it in the fridge and trade out bottles as I empty it. I don't like artificial sweeteners and the small amount of sugar is just enough to trick my brain into really liking it. My flavor is watermelon. So good!

Do you think using a pessary would help with that outpouching problem? I know next to nothing about them, since I had a hysterectomy long ago, but one of my old neighbors had a uterine prolapse & used a pessary to help support things. Then again, using a pessary & a tampon at the same time might be no bueño, too!
