Thought did cross my mind before to implement some kind of a ranking system per each bike when I put these out. Would love to hear ideas cause I'm not a creative man to come up with something smart.
Fantastic video, great review. I am in line with a lot of your bike choices. I tried to buy a Canyon years ago before the US distribution, and shipped to another country, it was too much trouble. When it came time to buy a new bike this year I debated hard between the Soloist and Canyon Ultimate or Endurace. I ended up buying an Endurace, and your summary of how the bike feels and rides is dead on. I debated hard because of the geometry issues and I was between sizes, and their sizing is funky. That said, I am 100% in love with the Canyon, and I can say with confidence those who question the Canyon model and sales should not think twice about buying one. I had to put it together, it was incredibly easy. I would say the ride, balance, and simple smoothness of the ride is incredible. The bike is heavier than my last bike, but I feel faster on it because it is so balanced. The integrated cockpit is fantastic if you can make it fit. No cables, super clean lines- and the bike is ultra quiet. If you ride on pothole filled streets, the Endurace is amazing, how it takes the jolts out of the ride, and saves your back. I thought the bike would be slow, it’s not in any way- it actually feels quick and nimble. I believe the Ultimate and Endurace are similar, doing a lot of climbing I like the geometry on the Endurace for long days where 6-8k feet of climbing is normal. This review and how the bike feels is 100% accurate, and I would say that after watching your review, I would have bought one. I will say this: I am 5’8” and ended up getting a “small” even though Canyon recommended an XS, but the bike feels perfect because like you I have a long torso, and the shorter stem would’ve made me feel cramped, like you. The reach and cockpit on the small is prefect for my body, yes I may have a little less seatpost coming out of the frame, but otherwise the geometry is dead on for me….
Glad to hear you got a ride that is doing you well! Thank you for your time spent with me watching me rambling on!!! Sizing is tricky indeed since you can't exactly go to a local shop and throw a leg over. Although, I think it's possible if you are able to visit their Carlsbad showroom. Either case, you got a bike that is servicing you nicely which I'm happy to hear! Be safe out there!
Another great review DC, thanks! The Canyon brand has always been a bit mysterious to me. I have never known if I should seriously consider the brand or if everything I was hearing about Canyon was just RUclips influencer hype. Thanks for helping to break through that struggle for me! While I would not ride the Ultimate, I would absolutely consider their endurance line of bikes. As I was watching this video I had a look at the Canyon site and I agree, for what you are getting with the various specs, Canyon seems to represent a pretty great value. The only thing that might be missing for me at this point from Canyon would be the ability to customize a build. While I did like the value I was seeing on their site, I was not happy because it seemed like each option I was looking at for the builds, I was having to make a compromise that I was not wanting to make. As a direct-to-consumer brand, you would think that Canyon would want to excel in this area of customer service.....possibly in the future! When it is time for my next bike, Canyon is now definitely on the short-list. You are the best DC!! Thanks for all of the work in making your content great!!
Batman!!! While I can't say a Canyon is a bike to retire with, a Canyon is one of the best tools for the job just being out on the road smashing it. Whether it provides a visceral emotional connection 10 years from now is debatable, but what a bike...
I have that exact bike. I love it. I'm 5'9" and got a size small. I too need a 100mm stem length. Canyon sold me a 40mm x 100mm cockpit and because I purchased the bike they took15% off the $399 price tag. They were very helpful when placing the order. One weird thing did happen upon receiving the bike. It comes with force AXS. Mine had several Red components swapped out for Force components. I called Canyon and was told sometimes during build up they will sub out higher end compomers when others are out of stock. Love the bike.
Another stellar review! Thanks again for sharing your experience. I have to admit I was a little nervous when you did the “would you rather” section as I just ordered a Cervelo Soloist frame (in no small part due to your review) and am preparing for the build:)
Terje! Lovely to hear from you again. AND WHAT? You got yourself a Soloist?!!!! NICELY DONE, sir! Whether just performance only or performance/$, Soloist can't be beaten easily I must say. CONGRATS!
Another great episode DC! Thanks to Canyon, now i own a dura ace groupset. I have always had Ultegra 10,11, 12 speeds because i cannot afford the dura ace. Hehe. And Thank you for showing my black stallion Ultimate n your video.
hahaha, that is exactly what I did. I grabbed coffee and watched;))) I really like your channel mate ;) super nice comparisons of the bike by regular dude no a pro or semi pro rider
@DiabeticCycling nah, the guys riding the E3 get their bikes for free. I'm just doing my part to support your "own damn wallet" for all the reviews you enlighten us with.
If you had to choose between giant tcr or the ultimate cf slx 8 which would you choose? I'm going back and forth between both bikes, i dont know which to choose.
TCRs have always been so great both in terms of value per performance as well as ride quality itself I feel like. You really couldn't go wrong here either or if you ask me. Perhaps one has a paintjob you prefer over the other? Both pretty good value (I say that cautiously as bike price overall still bonkers)
Great review! Would a 1.7 cm lower stack be noticeable/uncomfortable, If reach is the same on two bikes ? The ultimate has 1.7 cm lower stack than the Soloist
Its worth noting this is a 2022 Ultimate and this generation is no longer being sold by Canyon. It's a great bike though especially if you are allergic to brake lines in your headset.
Previous gen Ultimate 2016-2022 was way ahead of competiton, even now looks spot on, and performs excellent. Current gen is also good, but not better. By far the best value was the Ultimate CF SL8 rimbrake version for 2000-2400 USD/Euros, a 6.9kg/15 lbs bike right out of the box.
Hi Mason. Thanks for your time watching. I couldn't tell you personally how it compares since I've never ridden an R5, hopefully someone else can chime in.
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, but I just don’t love the look of the Ultimate. I do really like the look of the Aeroad, so not a Canyon issue. I own a Soloist and it’s so pretty - esp that white one with the cockpit you’re running with fully integrated cables. I know looks aren’t everything, but if you love your bike, you’re gonna ride it more.
Until 2021 CF SLX was the top tier, CFR did not exist. So this was the top tier. Current gen is sold in the US for 5500 bucks, with Ultegra Di2, DT Swiss ARC 1400 wheels + 4iii powermeter, which is good value.
that for 5500 is more than competitive compared to other names, not to say 5 and a half bills would be small chunk of money. one would definitely get more per dollar with that build FOSHO!
Unclear why?! Is it more comfort? Is it more stable? Is it more pedal down power feel direct? Good reviews, not stellar. Jourdain Coleman did cut up one & stated the Canyon were super thin.
Good to see you again! Ultimate, SL8, or Soloist, none of the 3 bad bikes. Matter of fact, all 3 are great. I just happen to love the on-bike rider feedback on Soloist and Ultimate more than SL8.
@@DiabeticCycling havé you tried thé Addict? I wonder if you will find it as comfortable as the Ultimate & enjoy it up hill. I appreciate your further feedback. There maybe participative bias, like I have with my first carbon bike brand: thé Scott addict. I rode since age 3. Always have 12 bikes approx in my garage. I tried the TCR Advanced Pro 1, for example but found my Scott Addict of say 2016 with high rear stays a better bike. Better up hill, Better compliance, better power down efficiency (could be thé OEM TCR wheelset which had 19mm internal!, but is a decent 1450g approx!), better feel, better aero (maybe in the head). However, the SL7 is better & arguably SL8 (are both the same), as the marginal watt difference is minimal (I refer to Tour Magazines data). We have 60 riders. 4 now have the golden Goldilocks bike (Soloist), it gives comfort, compliance, weigh between 7.6-8.2kg, all arounders. Later this year I will do some tests between: SL7 w/upgrades De Rosa Super King Foil RC w/upgrades I have been trying different wheelsets btw. I like you did this as well. Superbly. I plan to try ProX who Hambini tried. They have a carbon C67DB spokes wheelset. I have already used Élite a lot, decent.
Yes, I am here and will always watch your reviews! Please keep them coming! Thanks, DC! Coffee in hand and enjoying!

DC, as always, very useful information! Question: What are your thoughts about the Canyon bottom bracket?
Great content, as always! Keep it up
Thanks, Daniel! I appreciate you spending your time with me!
My new Ultimate CF SL 7 Di2 should get here tomorrow!
Ramon, by this time it should've arrived! Hope you got it put together and riding the hell out of it.

Mr. Gordon, good to hear from ya. Thank you for your time and the kind words!
Doing a w9rko7t indoor. Trapped watching MvDP dominate e3 classic on a Canyon, and you judging the Ultimate lable 😂

Curious your thoughts on the Ventum NS1.
If a right deal comes along, I would love to throw my leg over one for a while. Curious myself.

What is your opinion in comparison to the Cervélo Soloist?
Ahhhhh. I can only dream how an Ultimate CFR rim brake rides 🤤
Beating everybody else to it, Katusha Alpecin and Movistar never rode the Ultimate CFR rim brake version
My CF SLX then rim brake, crushed every and each time out.
Great review! Would a 1.7 cm lower stack be noticeable/uncomfortable, If reach is the same on two bikes ? The ultimate has 1.7 cm lower stack than the Soloist
