  • What's the difference between Current and Voltage?
    Current = the number of electrons passing a given point in one second
    Voltage = The difference in electrical potential energy, per unit of charge, between two points

      I looked at several videos and still don't really get it - I get the gravity analogy - the potential changes with height difference - but with electricty it's the same at every 2 points on the wire connected to the battery. How is that?

    • @world8805
      @world8805 2 года назад +5

      @@LiborTinka the electrons are forced to move when a force is applied. Using magnets to make those electrons do that for example. A battery is the same when not connected to anything. Just electrons hanging around. But complete the circuit and they want to move electrons so they move to the negative charged side (less electrons).

      @@world8805 I know but how do the electrons "know" the circuit was suddenly closed? Force is a very elusive term - I understand things in terms of wave propagation but most tutorial videos work in such abstract terms as forces and often even use terms like "zero at infinity" which we know does not exist in reality and is just a concept - I would love to understand how it actually works, the dynamics, voltage is just a concept, but where the information about the voltage is stored in the piece of cable?? there are just metal atoms with free electrons - so where is the voltage under microscope?

    • @wbeaty
      @wbeaty 8 месяцев назад +1

      @@tunkunrunk It's "easy" to explain, if the explanation is actually wrong. (Actually, voltage is like altitude, but using electrostatic forces rather than gravity forces.)
      And, when you get to college, if you believed the explanation in this video, you'll fail your physics-exam questions (maybe just one, if you're lucky.)
      Voltage is not potential energy. Voltage is something called "potentials," with little relation to energy.
      THINK: several different capacitors can all have the same voltage, yet different stored energy. THINK: if voltage is really just energy, why do we need "Volts" at all? Why not just use joules?
      Where is the specific flaw here? Well, when we divide energy by charge, *it's not energy anymore.* It turns into something weird, something called "Potentials." With a water-height analogy, voltage is like the height of the water, NOT the potential energy stored in the water. We can even remove all the water, so the energy is zero, *yet the height is still there.* The taller the water tank, the higher is the voltage, even if the water is removed and the Potential Energy is zero. Voltage and potential energy are two completely different things.
      Or, if our analogy involves lifting boulders, then voltage is the altitude through which we lifted the boulder. Different size boulders give us different amounts of potential energy, even while the voltage (the altitude,) stays the same. (And, if someone tries to convince you that altitude is a form of energy, you'd better be suspicious.)
      But what is voltage, REALLY?
      Here's the simplest explanation: voltage is a way to describe e-fields. Voltage is something like flux, like "force lines," but where voltage is at 90deg to the flux, and voltage appears as thin membranes, not as thin fibers. Voltage appears wherever fields appear, and patterns of pure voltage can exist in empty space. Wherever we have fields and flux, we also have invisible sheets made from "Potentials." Magnetism potentials. G-potentials. The E-potentials are called "voltage."
      Even simpler: there is no such thing as "static electricity," even though Electrostatics certainly exists. Electrostatics is the science of capacitors and surface-charge ...and high voltage. When dealing with Electrostatics, we're dealing with high voltage at zero current. Really, we've mistaken the voltage for the "static." When you touch a VandeGraaff generator, and your hair stands up, your hair is showing the shape of the invisible e-field. And that invisible e-field is made of pure voltage, a voltage with no current.

      😢Leviticus‬ ‭18:22‬ ‭KJV‬‬
      Thou shalt not lie with mankind, as with womankind: it is abomination. Ephesians 6:10-18 says, Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; and your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints. The bible is no old book. You have to really let Christ open your eyes; to see the world in shambles. Many people say it's a religion to lock up people in chains, and say it's a rule book.. why? Because people hate hearing the truth, it hurts their flesh, it's hurts their pride, it's exposes on what things have they done..people love this world so much, s*x, money, power, women, supercars.. things of this world. Still trying to find something that can fill that emptiness in your heart. You can't find that in this world.. only in Christ, the bible is no chains, it's a chainbreaker. Breaking your sins into pieces... Repent now, and turn back to the true Lord only.. God bless.

    In AC power, current continue to flow without a losing any energy whereas voltage drops during a complete cycle? Why is that, I've thought of a scenario that if you replace the tank (potential energy) at the top of the platform with a strait pipe every time the voltage energy difference drops to zero with the water still flowing (current) and then swap back to the tank when the energy difference level is rising similar to a flow of a wave chart.
    With the current still flowing does that mean there is energy still available through the current? Because if the is a negative energy potential then there has to be a positive energy potential to somewhere to assist the continuous current flow. Please help me understand

    Is Voltage the difference between the amount of electrons between the + and - side of the battery? Like when the battery is charged there's a lot of electrons on one side of the battery. When you close the circuit the electrons flow from the full side to the empty side. That means that when the battery is used, it's voltage drops. Am I understanding it correctly?

    If you do not understand, let me try to help.
    You could see Voltage and Current as cause and effect.
    It starts with a voltage.
    Closing that potential with some value of resistance (wires, components) leaves you with some amount of current
    A 1.5V battery can produce 2 amps of current if shorted with a wire, but putting your tongue in series to this wire wont electrocute you. (Tongue has more resistance so current would be limited)
    Touching city AC in series will result in higher currents that can be fatal, unless the current is limited by resistance.

    But how is it that some devices draw more current than other devices connected to the circuit even though the voltage source is fixed? for example when we short circuit, the amount of current keeps increasing (reaches infinity if there is no fuse) even though we have a 10v source?

    • @hafsafatima1193
      @hafsafatima1193 2 года назад

      @Thaer K.
      Voltage is just the difference of potential energy of the charges. So if voltage is 10V and there is no resistance in this case if at once there are 20 positive charges and and 10 negative charges there will be a difference in the energies of two terminals because wire would have a smaller resistance which will dissipate energy to small extent..
      And if at another time of observation there are 40 positive charges reached at positive terminal there will be 20 negative charges at negative terminal the potential difference would be increased between the component(load) and current will also increase beyond the limit of load and will cause short circuit.. But voltage source has fixed Voltage..
      This means that source only regulates the flow of charges it don't tells the potential difference across terminals of load..
      There always remains potential energy difference in circuit due to the resistance of wire causing steady current flow..
