Thankyou for this video. Can you tell me what have you put on the audio input area since the Audio recorded on the g7x is trash and there is no mic input!
Thanks Sarah. Yeah audiowise, I don't actually mind it when I am out vlogging. I have put what the call a "deadcat" or essentially a windshield over the top of the mics to help reduce wind noise. Doesn't completely remove wind noise but helps. When indoors doing a more studio style shot I generally record to an external audio device or my phone using a tie clip mic. Hope that helps

Hi Isabel, I believe the Face ID feature is only available on the G7X mkii. On the mk iii it has improved face detect where it can focus on multiple faces at the same time. If you are trying to film yourself, Can I suggest you start close to the screen touch the screen on your face to focus, then hit record and slowely move away from the camera checking the box is still around your face. hope that helps.

Heya, i you go into the menu system and look for "HDMI info disp" (HDMI info display - I believe in menu 5), you will have an option to set it to "clean" and choose whether output is 4k or FHD.
Hi, I've got the mark 3, I don't see some of these options in the menu. I've tested it for my Podcast and as I'm speaking it goes slightly blurry and then goes back to normal again (it keeps doing this)... I assume its something to do with the auto focus. Is there a way I can have it recording normally without it doing this? Thanks a lot
Heya, with the mk3, the best thing you can do is to prefocus, as in hold the shutter half way down and let it find focus before starting recording. Things like face detection are automatic on the mk3 so don't need set up, but pre focus is important if you want to save the drifting. If it continues to do so, probably means one of two things, either you are not well lit and it can't detect you, or your background is too busy and it doesn't know where to focus. Fixing these will help. Good luck 😀
Hello I am trying to use these settings however Face ID does NOT show up at all when Im on the camera, menu 2 part. What am I missing
This is SUPER helpful for me!! A game changer!!! I’ve had this camera for a few years now making RUclips videos and I’m just now realizing I didn’t have complete focus through all videos!! Wow. This is great. Thank you!!!! You use external audio recorder for your videos? I find there’s a soft background buzz with the G7 audio so I always use Zoom H1 to record the sound and then add it onto the video in editing. Any other suggestions?
Heya, thank you for the feedback, glad I could help. Sounds like you are pretty much there. Yes I use an external recorder also, though doesn't matter too much which one. When vlogging I use inbuilt mic and it seems okay. You may find the pre focusing may help with the noise.
Otherwise check out my best settings video to help minimise editing in post (this will be down to your style if it suits but worth trying). All the best man.

Hi Marlon. Thanks for the video. I recently purchased a G7xiii and loving it. To see the screen better in low light, I am getting a LCD viewfinder, but to keep the viewfinder on the screen I would like to be able to move my focuspoint (single point) without the touch screen. Do you know how to do that?? :) Thanks!!
He showed it in the tutorial video. You can choose Single Point Focus, and also lock the focus point.
I film tutorials for nails and auto focus with the gx7 mark ii seems to be my biggest issue. As my subject comes in and out of the shot due to having to set the products off camera. Is there anything I else i can do to enhance the autofocus for this sort of scenario?
If you have the camera on a tripod, i would try and lock the focus when your nail is in the shot where you expect it to be. Then you can move it around in and out of shot and it will stay locked in the focus of where your nail will be.
Alternatively, go in manual mode and adjust the aperture to f4 which should help keep things more in focus but will need good lighting to compensate.
Hi sorry if you’ve covered this but what is the best setting on the dial to take bright pictures in pls? I get so confused with AUTO. AV. MANUAL. CUSTOM etc. Which one should I have it for photos?
Hey Robert, if you want it relatively automated, I suggest moving the mode wheel in to "P" mode. From there you can use the compensation dial on the top to make your photos brighter or darker. For example, if you have the shot lined up but you think it needs to be brighter, move the wheel to +1 or +2 and fine adjust from there.

Can you do a video of focus noise? i just get my canon g7x mark ii and even if i'm in the same position it sounds so loud. The focus lock really help, also i just try to turn off IS. But i don't know what else to do if im not recording a face.
Heya, thanks for getting in touch, can I ask what sort of things your filming when this happens. Ie indoor/outdoor close to the camera or far away.. just so I can understand when it happens for you. If you have a videk live you can link with a time point in the video to check, happy to take a look also.

yes - same here. The Mark iii doesn't have the face id function which I miss. I still struggle with the Mark iii somewhat. Marlon I was hoping to see more about the Mark iii in your tips. Do you have a tutorial specifically for this newer model? The updated firmware doesn't seem to help much.

Regarding auto focus lock, unless you have the camera set in the same location permanently, I would suggest you set it each time before shooting to ensure you have correct focus.

Hi, I film in 60fps mode and then adjust the speed of the video down to 24 frames when doing my slow motion in post production. if your project is set to 30fps then you would need to slow it to that speed instead of 24 to ensure the footage looks smooth.

Hi, yes this is normal, they removed face id from mk3 and created a new optimised face detection mode which doesn't register faces. It's a shame as I liked the fact it would prioritise registered faces over non registered ones.

Hi Vanessa, from speaking with other mk3 owners, it seems the face registering part has been removed and they just have auto face detection built in and turned on now. A little annoying as I did like the fact on mk2 it would prioritise a known face over others, but overall auto focus is better on mk3 to mk2.

Heya, if you push the menu button when in a photo mode such as Auto, on the first camera menu. Click on the "shooting information display" menu item. Then in there go to grid display and I use Grid 1 which is rule of thirds.
You can then come out of then menu and cycle through your display info by clicking the info button (down arrow) on the back of camera.

Thanks this is really helpful but what if i want to stop the autofocus when i take shots of subject and not a face? the autofocus is so annoying when i try to take a shot of a cup for example, half the cup is focused and the other half is not!! do u have any idea how can i fix this?
Heya, sounds like you are using a wide aperture of probably F1.8, you need to raise this to maybe F4 or just enough until more of your shot is in focus. This effect becomes more apparent the closer you get to objects so if necessary back away slightly to get more in focus.

Canon m200 or Sony a6000 which one is better for food photography please suggest me
I think both will work well for food photography. You will need to invest in a good wideangle lens also.
I would probably go with the m200 as its newer. But also consider the a6100 which is the replacement for the a6000
Just got this after trying that other well known brand and not liking it. Can you do something similar to the product showcase eg if you hold something up close to the lens it doesn’t focus just stays on face
Heya. I dont believe there is an option for this, however, the focus is a bit slower than on Sony cameras so it shouldn't be switching as fast and should still be prioritising the face if you see the box around it. Only if the item takes up a large part of the view will it potentially try and refocus.
You could lock focus but at risk of your face being out of focus depending on how much you are moving around.

Hi, If you try to get to focus on a blank white sheet it won't work, put something with detail in the middle. Frame your shot focus and focus lock, then record, then remove said item and start filming.

Heya, many thanks, I dont think the mk3 has the same face setup like the mk2, however the mk3 has built in face detection which is meant to be a lot better than the mk2. Under the Q menu, you can change the type of focus it uses, make sure you select the one with a face in it to ensure best face tracking

My mark ii never focuses on the sky.. it’s too bright? like it looks whit when I turn it toward the sky
The sky is generally really bright. If you are outside, make sure you have the ND filter turned on (from the Q menu). Then if you look at the sky, use the exposure compensation dial on the top to darken things dow until you can see it. If that still doesnt work you may need to go into manual mode and use high aperture F14+, nd filter, higher shutter speed if needed and keep iso as fast as possible iso100.

Hey Athena, go into the menu and check the screen brightness, if you have it on full or close to the highest setting it can look like that, but shouldn't record like that. If its recording like that, try and put the camera in auto mode when filming and use the compensation dial on the top and reduce it to -1 or lower which should stop that from happening.

There's an auto focus clicking noise when I record. How can I get rid of that?
Try focusing before you hit record. Try not to focus from near and far in one shot, if you have to, use a higher apature setting. This should help prevent this.
I record my videos by myself, how can I focus my face properly and then lock it? I usually just sit in front of the camera and shoot ... any tips?
Hiya, thanks for your comment. Sure, I have registered my face so the camera will prioritise focus on my face when it sees it.
Before filming i will put my face in front of the camera at arms length, click the shutter half down to trigger a refocus, which detects my face. Then I click record, move back to my recording position and wait a few seconds until I can see the square around my face ia locked in again. Then I start my content.

I believe they removed it on G7x mk3 to make it more automated. It's really annoying as I found it an advantage to give priority to camera owner or families faces for focus

It might sound worse if you edit with headphones maybe? I notice the focus sound for me only gets bad if you switch between close and far. If you try and keep same distance from lens generally the noise is quite low. Like for example, when i vlog, it will be at arm length the whole way through so not too bad. If you are moving around and you have lots of light you can try increase the apature to see if that helps. I feel like I should probably make a video on the topic if you will find it helpful 😀
Why doesn’t the canon g5x ii have Face ID? Shouldn’t it be the same?
The g5x is a completely different camera and released at a different time, so features will differ between them.
Needed this advice. I have this camera and I cant record quality videos for S#!+..... I've had it since March 2020. It made me feel like a wasted my money. I even stopped doing youtube videos because I cant config this camera. I'm going to try these tips. I wish I had a camera man lol

Really!? I've had to give the mark iii back now so can't check but when I went through the menu systems, they were almost identical. Sorry man. Maybe the option is still there but in a different menu.

MK3 doesnt have Face ID
The mark ii and mark iii is completely different. Please change your title as its miss leading.
Hi Jessica, there will be some minor differences but they are very similar and the settings you do have that match if you use like on this video is a really good place to get going with. Was there anything in particular you were looking for or that didnt work for you that I might be able to help with?
They aren’t much different at all like Marlon said. The only difference is that the Mark III doesn’t have a way of adding a face but apart from that, they’re exactly the same.
This video title is misleading. The Mark III has none of the options mentioned in the video.
Hi krzysztof, sorry to hear that. I had the mk3 for a limited amount of time but when I went through the menus they were very similar to my mk2. I understand the saving a face option is no longer avaliable as they updated their auto focus face detection in the mk3 but I was sure the other bits still worked? Thanks for letting me know.
