This show changed everything about BAC, this year they hired a bunch of staff members from the Cadets and turned from just barely making it into finals in 2016 to an astonishing 6th place finish. A real shocker to everyone and a sneak peak of things to come for the next couple seasons.
Right?? Not to mention some of the staff from Carolina Crown’s guard moving to BAC just that year, right after Crown won the Zingali in 2016! Their come up these past few years has been so cool to watch
Sure did change them. But I must say that I missed the Boston style. They lost some of there identity in my opinion. I'd love them to do a Spanish themed show with the current corps. Anyway they are still good.
Hey Courtney! You’ll probably never see this, but I was the vocalist for this show and I just wanted to tell you that watching you react to the ballad like that was amazing and I may have cried a little bit. Thank you so much for posting this one and for all the kind words! P.s. the spoken words were all prerecorded, but I sang live for all but 2 shows when I caught a cold. Let me tell ya, spinning half a show before you have to sing is hard enough when you’re healthy 😅
I can attest to her killing it the the entire season! I too, may or may have not cried a little to this reaction also, but nevertheless well done! (George Pinillos, a mellophone from the 2017 Boston Crusaders!)
I'm honestly not a huge fan of ballad vocals in shows, but I think this show was one of the few that did it right, in my opinion. Great performance and beautiful voice! This is hands down one of my favorite shows!
I saw you all on a rehearsal day, and even that was amazing, honestly. Your vocal solo is my favorite vocal part of any DCI show ever. You have some amazing pipes, young lady. I think a lot of people in the crowds for your performances shed a tear or two while you were singing.
I am a 55 year old old school drum corps member from the mid 1970's. I heard of the changes, the amplified music, the new instruments etc. I hated the idea because that is not drum corps. Well I regret that notion now. The singing was fantastic. The drum line was awesome. Those rifles just killed it. Forgive me it is still drum corps but so much more progressed. So why the hell did I have to carry those huge tritoms lol.
I aged out in 2007, still playing a bugle no less and winning. So that should narrow down my corps. I have loved watching the activity progress since I left it as a marching member. Yes it’s different. Yes there is singing. But the more I see people pointing that out the more I still see great brass, phenomenal drums and wonderful colorguard. The activity changes, but isn’t losing its soul. That’s definitely worth celebrating. DCI will have a future worth enjoying for sure.
@@pxevo2418 I agree with you. When I matched tenors we moved but not as much as the drummers do now. I notice the music is more opera or classical based as well. I can remember Phantom Regiment doing Star Wars with Darth Vader making an appearance. I also remember Bridgemen recreating a civil war battle. But damn this show is so creative and on such a dark theme. I have changed my mind a lot now.
I saw them do this show on a rehearsal day at a local high school. When they turn around and face the crowd for the first hornline blast toward the start of the show, the brass line is SO LOUD it's just crazy. Probably my favorite DCI show ever. The vocal solo, that girl has AMAZING pipes, and then they reprise her vocal solo with the mellophone solo right before the "now she must burn" scene. Holy cow, that was such a great show. I'm SO disappointed we didn't get DCI in 2020 and what we're going to get is VERY limited in 2021. I miss seeing these performances SO much.
this show has some of the best drill design and drill execution of any show ever imo edit: especially when you consider who boston was the year prior !
I'm so happy you reacted to this show! This is one of my all time favorite shows and it is the main reason why I ended up auditioning for Boston the next year! You should totally react to more Boston shows like 2018 and 2019!
This show led to one of the highest year-to-year placement increases I have ever seen. In 2016, Boston Crusaders were 12th place, barely making it into DCI finals. In 2017, they were SIXTH, jumping by almost nine total points in just one year. Most corps only move up or down one or two spots from season to season, but a jump like that is truly amazing. Just goes to show what well coordinated staff placement, great recruitment efforts, stellar instruction, and a well designed show can do to completely turn a program around.
So excited to see you react to the Boston Crusaders. They are my all time favorite corp and I plan to audition for the 2022 season. Great video and I hope you react to more of their shows!
I’ve been watching Courtney’s dci reactions since the beginning and this one feels the most natural and like she understands the nuances and musical stylings and enjoys the shows now (not saying she wasn’t before) yes yes yes loving the dci content. Please keep em coming
Hey Courtney! Enjoyed this reaction, the only thing is that this show happened in 2017, not 2007. Just a minor title change. This was a great show that cemented BAC as a top drum corp for color guard!
Please do 2000 Boston Crusaders: “Red” It’s such a classic show. Great moves, awesome music. Also, the way the stadium was lit that year made their drill look all that much more intense.
Kudos to the guard staff and shame on the guard judges to not give you the guard title this year. People use to say Boston area kids came out of the womb spinning a sabre and it shows here . It’s a shame camera missed the sequence during the vocals (also a magical moment). Well done entire corps. Best show since “Red”
you know what's cool is they use that same fire prop in their next years show called SOS. they lay out the field like they've been stranded on an island and it's repurposed as a signal fire
I got to see this show performed live in Florida mid season and it moved me to tears. One of the best show concepts I've ever seen on the field and I am no Muggle.
Just a little thing for story. I believe I could be wrong this is centered around the Salem witch trials. These were a bunch of deaths ans trials that occurred because people thought there were witches( a long time ago) in Massachusetts. So the names(Sarah Good...) those are the people who were accused and maybe died.
Please please please react to Boston 2018 and 2019. They have THE BEST colorguard in DCI. Like the skill level of the guard and the difficulty of the choreography is off the charts and they are clean as hell. Michael Townsend and Kylie Hubbard and their staff are all truly LEGENDS in the colorguard activity
Courtney, I was a part of DCI as a marching member in the late 80's and early 90's, amplification and voice singing back then was strictly forbidden because it started out in the 1940's as just brass, percussion and color guard. If you think is amazing with amplification, you should see the shows from my days of marching. To be honest, DCI lost a lot of fans when they started using amplification and human voices.
I think you should check out Carolina Crown 2007 when you get the chance I’m sure you have a ton of videos to react to but it’s a fun show and I really think you’d love it
Check out The Cavaliers 2006 show. I added a brief description as well I sent a link to your Instagram. Cementing themselves as the corps of the decade, the Cavaliers won their fifth title in seven years with a show entitled MACHINE. Scoring a 97.200 at finals at Camp Randall Stadium in Madison, it featured, among other things, crowd surfing and robot dancing. In caption awards, The Cavaliers won the Jim Ott Trophy for best brass for the second time in the corps' history, as well as best effect and best visual performance. The Cavaliers were also awarded the Spirit of Disney Award for Innovation, which marks the first time that a corps has won both the DCI Championship and the Spirit of Disney Award in the same year.
The names of the voice overs were taken from a book and movie called "The Crucible". I highly recommend reading and watching it because it relates perfectly with the show concept!
This is 2017 Boston Crusaders, not 2007 though I'm sure others have probably corrected that by now. The fire prop was cool, but all the voice over in this show was/is just not my cup of tea and just ruins my enjoyment of it. That's just my opinion and I'm happy for anyone who loves this show. Unfortunately, my brain just doesn't work that way. I personally thought 2018 was a lot better year for them.
