Best starting moves play for otomo ever: 1. do the blitzkrieg in this video IF you want. 2. build nanban quarter and start pumping out nanban trade ships 3. don't upgrade the castle town in Bungo, and dont build any happiness increasing structures there. 4. Lets the shimazu take bungo, so that you can build a nanban quarter in Buzen. Retake Bungo at will. Shimazu will convert to christianity upon taking Bungo, and start to convert their provinces to Jesus land. 5. If the shimazu get wiped out, you can let a rebellion take place in bungo, and let the city be taken by rebels before building a new nanban quarter. In any case, you end up with two nanban quarters, which is excellent. In fact, if you take Bungo back from a christian Shimazu, they may build a new nanban quarter, and when you finally crush them, you will end up with a whooping THREE Nanban quarters.
That's what I do but I prefer to provoke a rebellion on Bungo. I build a nanban quarter on Satsuma to recruit Portuguese Terços with 13 armor. This unit is insanely good and since they have very high accuracy they don't need more and armor is ever helpful. Six or seven units of these terços can handle three enemy stacks on siege defence. As soon as you queue the Nanban Quarter you can recapture Bungo. You can have all the Nanban Quarters you want, but I am fine with three (Buzen for cannons, Bungo & Satsuma).
Thats pretty smart! The problem I'm facing with the game is that I HATE naval warfare.. so I HAVE TO play as a christian, so that I can take down medium bune and his friends using cannon fire (making the sea battles quick and easy)... But I want to play as ikko ikki :(
I'm a Shogun 2 newbie, and I want to ask: is it a good idea to build a lot of nanban trade ships? In ETW and NTW you could build more powerful trade ships such as indiamen or galleons, but they cost more to train and maintain but didn't bring in more trade, making the cheapest and most defenceless trade ships the best option for generating income.
Andrew Wang each trade node should contain one nanban trade ship plus a bunch of regular trade ships. Your actual navy however, should contain ONLY nanban trade ships. this is because they are incredibly cost effective compared to a bune stack. a single nanban trade ship can fight off a full stack of Japanese ships and yet, it's upkeep is lower. also, make sure you find the black ship and capture it
I tried to mimick this, but sagara ended up hiding their army in the woods and, when i was right infront of the castle, they fell me in the back. Obviously im not that good at fighting battles and just closed the game and didn't play for a week.
Just came from your Otomo Overview video, Otomo is by far my favorite clan in Shogun 2, and this strategy im definetly gonna use from now on as i usually get bogged down fighting off the Ouchi and Shoni and dont get a big enough army fast enough to deal with them until after i wipe out a few of there armies. Definetely my new strategy for the Otomo.
Your gunners weren't firing because the individual men need to have the enemy in their sights. It isn't a question of range, but bullets and musket balls travel in a relatively straight line. Unlike archers, your gunners can't arc their shots. They were blocked from shooting because of the slope of the hill. :)
I took your strategy and tactics into account while I did my take-on on the legendary campaign and also in Coop Multiplayer: Unfortunately in my playthrough the opponent generals are not that suicidal and they do not directly walk straight for my General. They actually tried flanking. Wonder what I did differently what prompted them to actually flank. Maybe its those Defensive Structures you put down ;P
I wonder if they're going to make part 3 of this game. I like it. I like the fact you can change your troop cloth color and name them. That was amazing and your main character you can do the samething
Jesus Christ I’ve been playing this game for more than a decade but i didn’t know about that trick (clicking the general when your whole army is out of move) to attack an army/castle
I feel that something was patched, because no matter which clan I play on legendary, every time it's almost impossible to get trade agreements and other clans declare war on me for no reason. I find very hard much more enjoyable because of that: the game is still difficult at the beginning, and at the same time not as ridiculous as on legendary
Just to throw two things out, even though these videos are old as fuck: In Shogun 2 and FotS, gun units won't shoot at your own men nor will they shoot if they don't have a shot. In Empire and Napoleon they would engage in both of those circumstances, so your men would shoot at one another if they were overlapping (or light infantry was not in loose formation) and they would just shoot up into a hill even if their bullets wouldn't hit. Your men conserve ammo that way. As for the Yai wall failure, the enemy general was too close and technically engaged, and you cannot put units into a formation once the game determines them to be engaged in a melee.
If the sagara fail to attack you on the first turn then the following turn you are in for PAIN. Its not impossible guys, you can beat them, its just really really hard.
@27:15 how can he fail so hard at controlling his units and still the bot doesn't just run him down.. meanwhile I'm getting shredded playing against just Hard bots.. did they redo the AI?

Took again Shogun 2 after a long time, wanted to play an Otomo Legendary Long Campaign. Note: I own only vanilla game, no ROTS / FOTS and only Otomo DLC iirc. Watching your videos I've seen the blitzkrieg style. But I am wondering: is there a chanche to defensively stand at the very beginning? I've tried to stockpile units but is an endless siege. I've also tried to forfeit Buzen and just defend my capital, but the same if not worse. Suggestion for playing a legendary otomo without blitzkrieg? Thx
Jack Dan I know this is a little late but yes it’s very useful but the risk is putting ur General in archer or rocket range but in early game it’s helps a unit come back from routing (not breaking)
How did you get sagara to attack you? Every time i try this on any difficulty the army always shows up, then turns around to get another unit, and makes me attack.
This happened to me too. The only thing I can guess at is that playing with different unit size settings causes the A.I to evaluate whether or not it attacks differently. MrSmartDonkey's using ultra settings while I am using medium currently so that might impact it.
+SaschaMai Actually Donnerbüchse literally means Thunder Box because of the sound it made. Normally "shot"gun now is called Flinte. Just a side note. :)
i know this is 2 years old but not really back in colonial age where guns became popular it's very easy because when there's a lot of men infront of you, wherever you aim you're bound to hit something not to mention the enemy usually just charge at you with spear, sword, horse etc but as modern time progress and unit got smaller it become harder and soldiers need to train accuracy more and time progress and military became like what it is now in 2020
@@kelvinmelon1668 It is less that and more that guns just outright required less skill and effort to make a solider effect with. The little thing a lot of people don't realize about good archery is that it requires you to develop your musculature in the right way. If you wanted to take a person who had no archery training, it was entirely possible you be better off just teaching him how to use it well so you could have him teach his own son to use it, who grow up developing the correct muscles. Your upper arm strength was only relevant in regards to aiming and not dropping it after you fired, which can be handled with just sheer muscle mass rather than having the correct muscles developed the right way.
