OMG!!! YOU ARE RIGHT!!!!!!!!!! Woooowww!! Could someone else be behind the scenes taking the photos with the Hasselblad?!? She was clearly shooting with a Canon.....
I don't think she's ever taken an actual photo that has been used... And legit every photo shoot she has ever done is always some type of B&W edit. Istg, it's a totally coup.
@@JessicaKobeissi I'm no pro but I'm beyond amateur and shoot mostly abandoned buildings and urbex type stuff but she holds the camera "correctly" and always looks so into and engages the girls... We know her acting is over the top but I have felt some the first time she started doing this that looks can be very deceiving.
Hey Jessica. My ethnicity is Hmong. We are minorities mostly scattered in China, Vietnam, Laos, and Thailand. Depending on the region we reside in, our clothing and dialect are similar but very different at the same time because it gets influence by the area we live in. I personally love the styling in this shoot. It is very similar to the Miao/Hmong-Chinese ethnic group in China. The hairstyles on the model Chantal is very much like how the Miao women style their hair. But I think it would be nice if ANTM mention the actual ethnic group they used for inspiration and not just refer to “Chinese” because traditional Han Chinese style and traditional Miao/Hmong style are pretty different from each other. I’m assuming when you said the style doesn’t look Chinese, you were thinking of Han Chinese. Han Chinese is the dominant ethnic group in China and probably what you will usually find in movies. In this shoot, it seemed like they styled the models based on various minority ethnic group in China and that’s probably why you didn’t think it was Chinese. China is very big and have a lot of hill tribes/ethnic group there. ANTM should’ve but didn’t explain that. I hope you get to read this comment and have some sort of clarification or understanding.
@@stephanieh1657 You’re definitely entitled to your feelings and they’re valid. I was mainly focus on explaining to Jessica about where the inspiration of styling came from because Jessica did not seem to be familiar with the Chinese minority tribes fashion or how the styling in this shoot was associated with Chinese in general. I know a lot of people don’t feel like it’s appropriate to create styles from other cultures but I personally enjoy seeing the uniqueness and twist that artists can create with a culture traditional fashion, especially when it’s done in a respectful way. In general, I don’t appreciate it when others are making profit off of designs based on other cultures traditional clothings while not giving any proper credit or profit to where its due. I also want to mention that China themselves don’t care about the minority groups in China. Chinese who are not part of the minority ethnic group have used Miao/Mongolian/etc styles in fashion shows and editorial magazines without the credit. I doubt any profit was given the tribes. While everyone is saying ANTM is being disrespectful to China…if China was truly offended, they would have definitely address it because China gets offended by everything lol. I don’t feel like editorial fashion have to be historically correct all the time either. Art is subjective. But that’s just my personal feelings. I don’t speak for all Asians.
From a psychological standpoint, the comeback of “We ALL want to be home” to her saying she’s homesick is SO INVALIDATING. It completely shoots down the persons feelings and belittles them as not important. As if they are not allowed to feel that way because everybody does too. This whole show is just a bunch of gaslighting and psychological warfare lol.
Completely invalidating. Also homesickness isn't the same as "wanting to be home". It just isn't. It can sneak up on you and just completely overwhelm you. I lived abroad as a teen and all of a sudden in the middle of dinner about a month in, I just broke down crying and could barely breath. I was just suddenly so homesick that I couldn't function. I think I terrified my poor host family.
@@rebeccajesse4604 exactly! I also have just never cared for this show because of how they treat these girls. Literally so manipulative and emotionally abusive. They all deserve better. How this show has lasted is beyond me.
it is the WORST when people do this kind of thing. when you're telling someone about how you're struggling and they come at you with a "oh but it's hard for EVERYONE" (I've experienced this with work a lot during covid) it just feels so awful and invalidating, you're right.
I almost appreciate ANTM for being so consistently offensive. It doesn’t sneak up on you, ya know? You just see the title or screenshot and you already know something is going to be problematic. It’s like an unintentional content warning.
@@Halo2glitchlover22lol well duh 🙄 it's still offensive how they treat them here and always lol that's the point. No one is saying the shoot itself is offensive 😆
Jessica, have you made a video yet where you explain the purpose of the portfolio and why they wouldn’t be able to use so many of these photos in them? I’m really curious on the process - maybe bring in one of your model friends to discuss it with you! Maybe watch a few ANTM shoots together and discuss the pros and cons of the shoots themselves and the technical component, and how the photos would hurt them more than help! (Same for the photographer!)
Yes I definitely will be filming it soon! Probably this week. I wrote all my notes on it already, just really behind on current work and trying to get to everything in a timely manner 😝 But it will be out soon for sureeee!!!
As a Mongolian, I can tell that the main elements of the clothing were based on our tribes' traditional garments. Every time we're mentioned, I always know how they're going to portray us. Whenever I talk to Americans I can tell its what they imagine as well - because it's the only version of us that's ever been in mainstream media. Please remember that we are beyond these stereotypes and that we are, in fact, "civilized" - we actually combine modernity and tradition. We have 3 million people and 2 million of us live in the capital city where we have internet, TV, smartphones. We have free healthcare and education, and we amend our Constitution regularly because our votes actually matter! Some people still live nomadically in yurts, herd sheep, and ride horses but they also have satellite TV so they can watch K-dramas!
I feel you on this. As a Cajun, the stereotypes are numerous!! We are laughed at in every way… but we are the only ones who will help you when you really need it….
I don't know other countries but because of our semi-conjoined history we always have been taught how fierce and extended was Mongolian culture. I thought it was common knowledge (I don't mean that we know Mongolian culture in detail, bu, similarly to southern Asia, just a few fundamentals) but according to many comments I saw, it isn't the case, which is a bummer in my opinion.
That's kind of funny cause some say she didn't actually take the photos. So basically she's just standing in for the real photographer who didn't want their name on it! 😆
As a Mongolian (aka "the Hun"), here's my answer to common questions I get: Yes we have our own culture Yes we have a developed city No I don't know how to ride a horse but some do for tradition's sake Yes we are an independent and democratic country, though we used to be part of the Soviet Union until the 90s Our primary language is Mongolian (has Russian alphabet and the language sounds more Turkish/Kazakh)
I'm from Poland. Before beeing a part of EU (2004) many people believed we had wild bears on the streets....And when we were a host UEFA Euro 2012 many journalist from other countries and tourists were like "omg, you have skyscrapers in Warsaw!". Yes, how surprising it is that civilization is not only the US or Western Europe 🤨🤨🤨
@@aguedafescuca might be because old European cities don't usually have skyscrapers or very tall buldings to not ruin the "aesthetic". It can look out of place with everything else. At least for me, I think of Poland as one of the older countries/empires in Europe.
I listened to a podcast today called "Anything you say." It's about police interrogation and the tactics they use (Reid technique), I found that most of it can be applied to this episode and others. Basically, the interrogation officers present exaggerated or fabricated evidence to try and force a confession. There is also manipulation, coercion, and contamination (when an interrogator offers specific details on a case to a suspect to trick them into acknowledging something they had no clue about). They also talked about how interrogators use empathy to trick the suspects into thinking they are on their side on other episodes. 1 Example: Jenahfelt homesick, plain and simple. But Tyra manipulated her into thinking it was something more. She told Jenah she didn't remember who she was. Another judge said the model felt lost (this is exaggerated evidence). Jenah mentioned she felt lost but, only due to feeling homesick and nothing more, there is no deeper meaning.) 2 After Tyra has planted with her statements that Jenah has no sense of self and she has no direction, the second part of manipulation starts. (A feeling that was never there has now appeared and the model is being asked to elaborate on it. Now that Tyra stated it, it must be true.) Tyra uses empathy to appeal to Jenah after confronting her: "I know this is hard, tell me what's going on" 3 Tyra is the main judge of the show so, the models feel whatever she says goes, so they feel forced/intimidated to obey her. This is coercion when she asks Jenah to talk about her "immense feeling of loss". (The model is forced to talk about a feeling she hasn't expressed having to this extent. So the model gives an answer Tyra wants because that's how Tyra set it up to be.) In the end, after using all of these tactics, Tyra gets a forced/false confession.
After rewatching ANTM as an adult I always hated when they would tell the girls they “don’t know who they are” or that “they don’t seem confident/comfortable in their own skin.” These girls are typically ages like 18-21 of course they don’t know who they are yet, that’s like the prime age of discovering who you are as a person.
And on top of that, they strip these contestants of who they are as soon as they arrive - makeovers, specific clothes they have to wear to judging "to look like a model," tell them how to do their hair and makeup, keep them all together all the time, and as soon as someone voices an opinion or a feeling it gets shut down IMMEDIATELY. Of course the judges "don't know who they are"
The only reason they did that to Jenna is because they wanted an excuse to eliminate her. Because she was a great model and took good pictures throughout the cycle so they had to find another reason to eliminate her.
Jenna was always my favorite, and it just occurred to me after reading your comment that they had to find a way to eliminate her, because she would be too strong to go against Saleisha - who they wanted to win - in the final 2. (They eliminate Jenna in the next episode for some bs reason.) Not sure if that theory has already been presented with the speculation of the season being rigged for Saleisha, but I just thought of that.
There's no way Tyra is editing the photos. Especially because I can't imagine them not bringing it up if she was, complimenting the editing in judging etc. And also I agree with you, the small manipulation tactics seem so transparent to me now...
Right? The obvious favoritism towards her during the judging pisses me off. The judges made her out to be the next big thing when she was nothing but a Dora the Explorer lookalike.
I agree. I always felt Chantal had what it took to be a full time model and Saleisha was great but they definitely favored her. I was so disappointed when she won and she’s not even a model now. She’s an extra on like Days of our Lives and Chantal is still modeling.
@@marlyd I think I only saw about 4 or 5 episodes back in the day. Here in Canada it was taken off the air. Never knew why...but seeing this...I totally get it.
They were all ganging up with the gaslighting on poor Jenah. These poor girls. I feel for them. I have a coworker that has been picking me apart at work lately. I can't even describe how drained I feel when I'm done talking to him. I also become hyper aware of every mistake I make which makes me make more.
Hey Jessica! I actually had a recommendation for you, actually in antm cycle 21, episode 13 a drama rose up when Yu Tsai called one of the contestants Winnie Harlow (referred to as Chantelle on the show) a 'panda' as an apparent 'nickname' whilst being aware that she has vitiligo. I would really like to see your views regarding that particular incident. Have a great day!
@@zombei_kid do you know what the title of the video is? ive tried looking for it. quite challenging bc there are so many! any help would be appreciated!
As someone that studied history in college I really wanna know what people these “invaders” are based on? What are their references in terms of time period, outfits, hair, and tribe? Is it just suppose to be a general eastern “barbarian”?
I think this photoshoot idea could work, I do wonder if it's even historically accurate I feel if it's based on history and they are wanting to make an art piece to replicate that, then that's super cool to me. But antm is known for just being horribly, almost naively racist, so they'd probably mess it up regardless 😂
I am not a historian major but I do love history and I honestly have no idea. Like I even tried to find some historical accuracy but nope. Honestly, even younger, I always hated this photo shoot just because it just felt wrong.
they looked like a loose interpretation of traditional mongolian hairstyles and dress used for ceremony. imo the whole look was so extra that it looked almost cartoonish, like a caricature.
Same! I studied anthropology and this episode pissed me off. Literally using stereotypes to characterize a “barbarian”. They definitely didn’t do any historical research on ANTM.
They didn't build the wall for fun. It outlines the northern border of the Middle kingdom and it's purpose was to keep the Eurasian nomadic tribes on the other side. And yes, as its original name suggests, just as any other politically and culturally dominant powers during Antiquity, China considered itself to be the center of the world, and everything else was 'barbaric'. More specificaly, they named the biggest groups of non-Han people that surrouded the Empire, Wu Hu, or the Five Barbarians. These were people of diverse ethnicities - Mongolian, Turkic, Tibetian, and some unspecified, so I think even an actual historian whould find it challenging to say exactly what they looked like fifteen centuries ago. Some of the hairs, by the way, are an obvious reference to the famous Khalkha princess hairstyle, which was also used for Amidala in "Star Wars: Episode I".
I feel like if Jessica were to run a new Next Top Model show, it would be like the Great British Bake Off of reality shows. Everyone is nice and encouraging and it is lovely to watch.
As an adult i realized that none of these shoots were worthy to be in the portfolio! I used to be so confused when they went on go-sees and the people used to be underwhelmed and disgusted 😂 like you’re not impressed by my circus photoshoot when i was dressed as an elephant???
lmao. They really did have a photoshoot where one of the girls was dressed as an elephant. Didn't they even put a fake trunk on her? lol. Also, to be fair, a lot of us were kids or teens then and knew nothing about modeling, so we were probably just like, "Oh, so this is what it's like!"
Tyra not only comes up with a bunch of speeches but she puts so much emotion behind it. The commitment is pretty impressive as well even if I find it corny sometimes (I usually get reminded of that movie she did years ago, Life Size)
Salisha's photo is less saturated than the others and that always bothered me. Like they were trying to highlight her photo and go "See how she stands out?"
I would love a video where Jessica shows us what a model portfolio SHOULD look like, and what a photographer is looking for in them. Has she done this? Can someone link?
I actually would love a real documentary of a few models and fashion photographers in THE REAL INDUSTRY and what they go through on a daily basis. That’d be dope
There’s no way Tyra is editing these photos. Most top tier fashion photographers do not edit their own photos, they work with retouchers to execute their vision. You can see the work process in Annie Leibovitz‘s Master Class. And also, on most top tier fashion shoots, the photographer will indeed walk onto set with everything already set up by assistants, light tech, etc. and they just point and shoot.
Also, about the model feeling lost and homesick, when she was saying that in hair and makeup before the shoot, soon after (or right after i dont remember) they cut to another model saying "i love travelling all over the place going everywhere all the time. I love it" which made me feel like "oh that model has it in her to do this type of work and the homesick girl just isnt cut out. And it took me til judging when jessica comments on it more for me to realize how they edited the clips to really put down this girl for being homesick, when OFC its ok to feel that way and it doesnt mean shed be a worse model than the one who was more energized by the travel
i think tyra got a lot of backlash for this season because the winner went to tyras bootcamp or something like that and then appeared on the show and ended up winning. everyone in my opinion was set up for failure because of that.
You’re beautifully refreshing. While the toxicity of this show has been actively recognized these days, I’m also happy to see reviewers criticize the negative and still give credit to the positives. When I watched that season, wasn’t a big fan of a lot of the girls but I recognized when they took really awesome photos. I saw there were so many terrible treatments of models, judging panels, photo shoots, advice..etc on the show, but there was some good ones too. I love your reviews on the photos, the shoots, the care and love you show for the models, and you’re adorably funny. “You get a snickers, you get a Milky Way, you get a babe Ruth, you get a butterfinger. I kinda want all that today, I’m going to get some chocolate after this.” 🤣💀🤣💀🤣💀🤣 Can’t wait for the next.
I wasn’t even allowed to watch this show when I was younger because my parents thought it was horrific but I’m so invested in your videos on it. Also shout out to Tyra for butchering every language she finds
Props to your parents! My mom had me watch this with her religiously from age 8 because she had wanted to be a model. Rewatching these makes me see how much I took in from it. Not okay!
I HATE when they say "you don't know who you are" to these JUST BARELY LEGAL girls! *how do you want "fresh faced, new (young) girls" , but also think they need to have life experience and who they are figured out?!* not only that , *do you know who YOU are , even at middle-age?* also , THIS is them FINDIND themselves!
This kind of reminds me of that one episode where Winnie Harlow was called a panda because of her vitiligo by an Asian photographer and the photographer was offended that she was offended because he thought it was a cute nickname..
Even worse was that based on what aired, she was being professional when addressing it whereas he was the one being overdramatic. She started softening her tone ("Oh, I know YOU use it as a term of endearment--I'm worried about others using it.") once she saw he was getting pissed off and very defensive.
@@skurinski stop being offended by people making fun of a medical condition? Maybe the actual lesson is some people in the world, like you, will never learn to express proper empathy. Best to ignore them like the simple animals they are
Tyra had an assistant hold her camera strap I wouldn’t put it past her to have someone else editing. 😂 never forget the man dedicated to holding the strap 💀
Jennah breaking down over wanting her two little sisters to look up to her only makes Chantal look worse in the next episode when she said “Well, I wouldn’t want MY little sister looking up to her…” What an incredibly catty thing to say.
Lol I love Tyra’s face when Jena admitted to wanting to know who she was. It was like she was saying “yeah! Got her! I know how I can tear her down at panel!” It was a total trap. I hope you react to the episode right after this one cause it’s much worse. Poor Jena 🥺 I’m still upset about it, she was my favorite.
you know what would have been a cool shooting in china? they could have made a shoot based on silk. wasn't it china that found out about the mysteries of silk? this would have made even more sense, since they are fashion models and not warriors (sorry for my english)
Super late, but they actually did that in Cycle 18 when they went to Macau, but... they also included silkworms in the picture so... not sure how you'd feel about that.
Aww..., Bianca. I loved her buzzed cut hair, it really brought out her amazing features. I'm happy and proud of how much she grown and developed into a refined, mature woman and now has long hair. 💖💜💖💜💖💜

Ahh yes. This photoshoot. I remember watching this and actually being so confused with the whole concept, like it's cool, but once again, photos can't be used in the portfolio! And a portfolio is important for a model if they wanna make it in the industry especially if they go on go-sees like they should've stopped and actually seriously asked the creative heads to give ideas which would bring out a usable product which the models could've actually use for their portfolios!
omg I've been waiting for this oneeeee. PLEASE watch Jenah's elimination. The judges are insane; it made my blood boil and I still get irritated to this day. I really liked Jenah as a person, and she was, to me, the best model of the season. I also find her to be the most memorable model of the entire show. And Tyra pushed super hard for Saleisha to win cause she like went to her model bootcamp when she was younger.
I don’t think the group photo was to pit them against each other. I think it was just another opportunity for Tyra to “play photographer” and have more focus on herself and how great she is. Tyra loves being the photographer, as long as somebody else sets up the lights, works out the exposure, adjusts the settings on the camera, carries the equipment…
Jessica I would love o see you react to Naomi Campbell modeling show. She has them so realistic catwalks and photo shoots that ACTUALLY would help them in they career and give them a good portfolio.
Hi Jessica! You should start reacting to Asia’s version of ANTM. It used to be called AsNTM (Asia’s Next stop Model) but this recent season that’s currently airing is now called Supermodel Me since ANTM has been discontinued. They have better production and are more sensitive to their models and their well-being. There’s a little drama, like with any reality tv show, but the judges are not problematic like Tyra was with ANTM. I do hope you react to their videos and give your thoughts on their photoshoot concepts!
@skurinski blackface was also entertaining. Do people really think that white people performed in blackface to be mean to black people for no reason? No, it was to entertain, albeit at the expense of respecting black people. Point is, just because it entertains you it doesn't mean it's not hurtful to others. That said I do think people take things way too seriously and out of their cultural and time period context and act like everything is an atrocity because they're so privileged that they don't have any real problems to solve (or they'd rather focus on small things because bitching about something offensive is easier than admitting you're powerless to change, say, healthcare/gun/education etc reform). Eh, whatever.
Ok but you mentioning that someone can be made to question their identity is EXACTLY what happened to me growing up with my family constantly telling me what they thought I was thinking/feeling and when I countered them I was lying to myself and didn't know who I was... I legitimately still really struggle with my self identity because of it and it is so exhausting. Watching them do this intentionally and on national television like it's ok is just sickening to see...
I completely agree with you, and I had the same problem growing up. Luckily my now husband and my best friends helped me so much with finding myself. I don't know you but I already love you and know you're an amazing person.
China consists of different ethnicity like Mongolian or like tribe groups like Miao. What is best known to western society is Han people because they are considered the majority in society. There are many more minorities or mixing of cultures/clothings if you visit the borders. What the models were wearing are qipao style dresses when they're doing the reviews with Tyra. And the ones they wore in the photoshoots looks more like tribal outfits. And of course for both outfits they collect styles here and there and their own twist on it. Personally I don't hate it, but I just think the hairstyle could be better put together lol.
As a 1990's photographer I love sepia & black & white. Also into the early 2000s people in the photo industry still looked down at digitally enhancing photographs. At least in the industry that I worked for, I also worked for a photo house that developed for Newsweek Time National Geographic Elle, etc. just film printed on their paper choice. Of course editing was done i.e. I looked at the negative and deciphered if it needed magenta yellow or cyan added or removed and of course the density. In addition to it coming out of the dryer each print was always work they had to make sure it was dust free and that the color and density looked correct If enhancement was done it was done in a different part of the building. But mostly that was used by wedding photographers. Anyhow that's my two bits
wasn’t there drama about saleisha being rigged to win that season? her photos and challenges throughout the show of course made her stand out more because she was a model prior to being on the show. it just made the other girls just at that point pawns throughout the show (more than what they are already). i just felt so bad for chantel & jenna because they both deserved so much better.
You really need to watch the interview with Lisa from one of the seasons and who came back and did the all star season. She did an interview on RUclips with Oliver Twixt. She explains how the producers pull the models aside when the cameras are off and manipulates them based on the psyche evaluations they give to get on the shows. It’s really insane. They play serious mind games just to create these storylines and drama for the show.
I'm so horrified by how manipulative this show was and as a teenager I didn't notice that. What they did to the girls, especially Jenah, is totally unacceptable. They just treated real people like pawns in their game, how cruel is that... Shame on Tyra, shame on the judges and producers who encouraged this...
What I find interesting is that they always bounce back and forth on when they want or don't want "dancer" poses. I remember multiple girls who came in with that background were criticized for being "too dancer, not enough model", and then they would turn to someone else and say they want them looking like ballerinas. Also, did anyone else not like the desaturation in Jenah's photo? Between her outfit, the armor, the Wall, etc., everything kind of seemed to have the same depth and blended together. Tbh, her skin was what really popped as a contrast to everything else and helped draw attention to her.
Even when I was still a fan of this show, a loyal watcher from Season 15 to 21, I always hated the fact that when models reveal their concerns, weaknesses, or problems, the judges will always find the way to use it against them. Throughout the whole show.
10:58 Loved your instruction for Arabic numbers 1-3. Haha whenever someone asks me to say something in Arabic and I can't think of anything I just count to ten 😅
I am 100 percent sure that they could have easily found a broke, desperate photographer that would have done it for the exposure in a heartbeat. No, it’s because Tyra has delusions of grandeur and wants people to think she has talent, other than being a has been model. Typical narcissistic behavior.
19:49 not only that but all the judges have their phones, communication and what not to the outside world. The models? Nothing, they can’t bring their phones so ofc that can take a toll on them at some point and even feel isolated.
can you react to a covergirl shoot and let us know how similar that is to like real world commercial shoots/if those pictures could be used in a book?? (the prime cover girl shoots are anywhere from cycle 6-17 so any would be good, just want your take on that. also there is one every season in the finale 3)
"she was doin her makeup in the morning and then someone invaded the country" is exactly the description the makeup artists were given by creative direction, jessica, i would not doubt it for a second 😭ily
Meanwhile The Great Wall is disintegraing at an astronomical rate because tourists literally break off pieces of brick to take home, deface things with names etc. Nvm the fact that the 1 million + a year foot traffic wears down the stone so fast it can't be maintained so great job ANTM for contributing to the destruction of a wonder.
Lmao what, you make it sound like the Chinese governemnt itself doesn't market The Great Wall as a tourist destination for money and people just randomly show up walking on it unwelcome
It's amazing how when someone actually shows the girls what they are talking about, they understand what the judges are finally talking about. Such a shock lol. Imagine if they did that with all the girls on all the shoots lol
Jessica! Love love love your page, you're personality shows and it's amazing!! Side note: notice how the one judge made a stereotypical comment about Bianca's face looking as "mad".. flash forward when they cut to the other girl talkin about positivity and the showed Bianca face. That hit home. No one should be put in such a corner especially when you get painted a certain image. For everyone reading this be you and own it. Greetings 🇵🇾/🇦🇴🇨🇩
the worst part really is, even if the models do a really good job, they're being judged on their personality or character or whatever. as u say, it's not therapy. if she did a good job that's that and the rest shouldn't be the judge's business tbh
I think some of the hairstyling is inspired by the Miao (?) people. They wrap their around a horn or a comb of sorts and tie it in place with white ribbon. The hairdo is very impressive!
they tell so many of these girls "you seem lost, you don't know who you are" with like no evidence that the girl herself feels that way?? maybe she's just quiet and nervous because she's on a competition show??? the judges make me so mad oh my god
Thank you for calling them out on that question of “who is she”. It reminds me of the song by Amos Lee called Soul Suckers. If you haven’t heard it, it totally makes sense in this context.
This show cracks me up with how they build up Tyra. "You know what's just as amazing as The Great Wall of China? Tyra! She's like the 8th wonder of the world!" 🤣 I hate how they ask the girls a question then punish them for answering it honestly 😠
You should never admit anything , or be completely honest. Those judges are vicious and use anything against them for the views. It’s like number hungry and disgusting.
I had shot a wedding gave the client 500+ pictures and the bride called me up to complain about one photo where her brother who "almost" died of alcohol poisoning was cut out of a snap shot I had taken. She gives me the image number, I pull up the shot and it was a candid picture of groomsmen goofing around her brother was in the background. She wanted $100 discount because of 1 picture out of hundreds.
Hey Jessica, did you ever made a video explaining models portfolio? I hear you always say that the girls on the show couldn't use their shots for that and I wonder why
It seems like Tyra wants to be everyone's psychologist, wants to be some kind of a spiritual leader or something so she needs to give speeches in every show. A body language expert analyzed Tyra's body language a few years ago. He said that she's jealous of Oprah. She wants to be Oprah.
I wonder if they have Tyra be so nice and fun and excited on purpose, to make her seem better that the other photographers, and to make the girls like her more. Cause all the other shoots have people that are like, super mean, or Jay is mean and the photographer doesn't talk at all.
please react to the death photoshoot of cycle 8 and the camel photoshoot in cycle 16 (Tyra said that if the photographer didn't like the model he can give any bad pic he wants, and they never say it's bad photography but rather "the model looks like crap" I really want your opinion on this)
She should also react to Cycle 3 retouch beauty photoshoot where they did Kelly dirty by *deliberately* choosing a bad photo of her then ridiculed her and placed her in the bottom 2 for "making excuses" or "playing the blame game".
Okay but did anyone else notice she jumps out with a Hasselblad and then in the actual shoot she’s shooting with a canon?? I call Bullsh**

Glad to hear your perspective!
Your culture is fascinating and beautiful!
Pin this! 📍
love to read your comments guys💞
From a psychological standpoint, the comeback of “We ALL want to be home” to her saying she’s homesick is SO INVALIDATING. It completely shoots down the persons feelings and belittles them as not important. As if they are not allowed to feel that way because everybody does too.
This whole show is just a bunch of gaslighting and psychological warfare lol.
Joyojiyijojpojpokps

The only improvement would be to just change the title to America's Next Top Dumpster Fire
Aside from the way the models are manipulated and treated by the producers and judges, there’s nothing offensive about this shoot.
😂
Yes I second this idea please!

Sounds great! I want to live there.
Mongolian culture is one of the absolute most beautiful and fascinating ones I’ve learned about 😫❤️
Isn't it Mongolians that hunt in traditional wear but on, like, ATVs? I feel like I read that somewhere and thought it was so cool
why do I feel like every time Tyra is the one to take the photos, its because no photographer wanted their name on the shoot
I was thinking the same thing.
Hold on 🤔 you right
omg
That's kind of funny cause some say she didn't actually take the photos. So basically she's just standing in for the real photographer who didn't want their name on it! 😆
PROBABLY
As a Mongolian (aka "the Hun"), here's my answer to common questions I get:
Yes we have our own culture
Yes we have a developed city
No I don't know how to ride a horse but some do for tradition's sake
Yes we are an independent and democratic country, though we used to be part of the Soviet Union until the 90s
Our primary language is Mongolian (has Russian alphabet and the language sounds more Turkish/Kazakh)
My Chinese uncle says I look Mongolian because I’m mixed. Do people ask you where you’re from a lot, or confuse you for something else?
They called him “the Hun” because he was such a hottie.
Jenah mentioned she felt lost but, only due to feeling homesick and nothing more, there is no deeper meaning.)
2 After Tyra has planted with her statements that Jenah has no sense of self and she has no direction, the second part of manipulation starts. (A feeling that was never there has now appeared and the model is being asked to elaborate on it. Now that Tyra stated it, it must be true.) Tyra uses empathy to appeal to Jenah after confronting her: "I know this is hard, tell me what's going on"
3 Tyra is the main judge of the show so, the models feel whatever she says goes, so they feel forced/intimidated to obey her. This is coercion when she asks Jenah to talk about her "immense feeling of loss". (The model is forced to talk about a feeling she hasn't expressed having to this extent. So the model gives an answer Tyra wants because that's how Tyra set it up to be.)
In the end, after using all of these tactics, Tyra gets a forced/false confession.
Do you have a link to this podcast? It sounds very interesting.
That sounds like a really interesting podcast! I looked it up and I think it’s on Spotify. Is it by VAULT Studios?
You can watch examples on the "explore with us" channel on interrogations they break it down step by step .
ANTM is turning Jessica into a psychotherapist y'all, those analyses on how they're communicating with the contestants is spot on.
After rewatching ANTM as an adult I always hated when they would tell the girls they “don’t know who they are” or that “they don’t seem confident/comfortable in their own skin.”
These girls are typically ages like 18-21 of course they don’t know who they are yet, that’s like the prime age of discovering who you are as a person.
And if any of them are neurodiverse, that question/statement of knowing who they are can be detrimental.
@@simplesimply3753 EXTREMELY.
i can't explain how many times this question derailed my recovery from several disorders / toxic coping mechanisms
Of course the judges "don't know who they are"
I'm 51 and still learning who I am...because different experiences and just normal life growth/stages change you. Hopefully for the better.
So true
The only reason they did that to Jenna is because they wanted an excuse to eliminate her. Because she was a great model and took good pictures throughout the cycle so they had to find another reason to eliminate her.
The whole "we don't know you are " actually means "your boring and need to start some drama or something cause ur about to go home"
@@koalapillars someone else said covergirl was the one choosing the models.
There's no way Tyra is editing the photos. Especially because I can't imagine them not bringing it up if she was, complimenting the editing in judging etc. And also I agree with you, the small manipulation tactics seem so transparent to me now...

As someone that studied history in college I really wanna know what people these “invaders” are based on? What are their references in terms of time period, outfits, hair, and tribe? Is it just suppose to be a general eastern “barbarian”?
I think this photoshoot idea could work, I do wonder if it's even historically accurate
I feel if it's based on history and they are wanting to make an art piece to replicate that, then that's super cool to me.
Heather was so mistreated and Jenah got robbed as well. The way poor, naive Chantal just ate up Tyra and her awful narcissistic ways is so cringe.
I feel like if Jessica were to run a new Next Top Model show, it would be like the Great British Bake Off of reality shows. Everyone is nice and encouraging and it is lovely to watch.

I feel like her role was perfect for her. She can get this very weird energy around her, and it fit well for a doll coming to life.

Ahh I love Annie Leibovitz's. She's my favourite photographer ❣
And Tyra pushed super hard for Saleisha to win cause she like went to her model bootcamp when she was younger.
Damn. This supportive Tyra full of helpful advice really shows the unfulfilled potential of the show.
I don’t think the group photo was to pit them against each other. I think it was just another opportunity for Tyra to “play photographer” and have more focus on herself and how great she is.

I do hope you react to their videos and give your thoughts on their photoshoot concepts!
who cares, problematic is way more entertaining than PC reality tv
Let me tell you, when you yelled, "It's not about you!" at the screen, I straight up cheered. 🥳
It's been so long ago, but if I remember correctly, Saleisha went to Tyra's boot camp, so they already knew each other or something like that.
Cultural appropriation or disrespectfully historically inaccurate? Wait! Why not both?
People often forget ballet is merely poses in motion.
Even when I was still a fan of this show, a loyal watcher from Season 15 to 21, I always hated the fact that when models reveal their concerns, weaknesses, or problems, the judges will always find the way to use it against them. Throughout the whole show.
Your face when Tyra came out was priceless. Laughed so hard.
Tyra to Bianca: “You have come a long journey…”
Jess: “To China? Ohhh”
😂😂😂
Finally someone who sees reality TV as they are, the show plays just want to stir drama when there is none.
10:58 Loved your instruction for Arabic numbers 1-3. Haha whenever someone asks me to say something in Arabic and I can't think of anything I just count to ten 😅
So I’m curious if they can’t get a photographer or they fall through. Do they just have Tyra shot it.
Yeaah, I have the feeling a lot of photographers would not be comfortable shooting this concept.
I am 100 percent sure that they could have easily found a broke, desperate photographer that would have done it for the exposure in a heartbeat. No, it’s because Tyra has delusions of grandeur and wants people to think she has talent, other than being a has been model. Typical narcissistic behavior.
19:48 .... Miss J: We ALL want to be home
excuse me, YOU are getting PAID to be a bully, the models get paid NOTHING and are the VICTIMS.
I'm half Chinese and is totally fluent with the language. When Trya said "Ni Hao" during her introduction, that gave me a lotta chills somehow.
19:49 not only that but all the judges have their phones, communication and what not to the outside world. The models? Nothing, they can’t bring their phones so ofc that can take a toll on them at some point and even feel isolated.
Ahhhhhhh so excited!! I love all your antm reaction videos so much. I check your channel almost on a daily basis. Will watch this one later 🤩
can you react to a covergirl shoot and let us know how similar that is to like real world commercial shoots/if those pictures could be used in a book?? (the prime cover girl shoots are anywhere from cycle 6-17 so any would be good, just want your take on that. also there is one every season in the finale 3)
Yes! I want her to do the one with Jade, when she talks back and says but my other take was better
"she was doin her makeup in the morning and then someone invaded the country" is exactly the description the makeup artists were given by creative direction, jessica, i would not doubt it for a second
😭ily
Meanwhile The Great Wall is disintegraing at an astronomical rate because tourists literally break off pieces of brick to take home, deface things with names etc. Nvm the fact that the 1 million + a year foot traffic wears down the stone so fast it can't be maintained so great job ANTM for contributing to the destruction of a wonder.
Oh wow. I had no idea 😳😢
Lmao what, you make it sound like the Chinese governemnt itself doesn't market The Great Wall as a tourist destination for money and people just randomly show up walking on it unwelcome
I love that affirmation: there’s nothing wrong with being nervous. We all get nervous.
Such a memorable episode! Xx
Yayy! I definitely needed this today.. Thanks Jess! Another great video as usual girl!
☠ "The Wall Out Of This Show"! GOOD ONE!! 👏🏻
Ya no!
I have no idea how I used to enjoy this (America next top model) 😭
Me too 😩
Tyra: I don't remember you
Model: you may want to see a neurologist about that
Hey Jessica, did you ever made a video explaining models portfolio? I hear you always say that the girls on the show couldn't use their shots for that and I wonder why
I appreciate your constructive criticism of the show. I really like the episodes you do with Azizi. You guys do a great job together.
I only watch for Jessica’s conspiracy theories revolving the show lol 😂 love it !
Zelda and Ace Attorney!? Love your taste in games ❤️
It seems like Tyra wants to be everyone's psychologist, wants to be some kind of a spiritual leader or something so she needs to give speeches in every show. A body language expert analyzed Tyra's body language a few years ago. He said that she's jealous of Oprah. She wants to be Oprah.
The first model was the most beautiful imo and there's NO WAY Tyra forgot her, she did SO WELL !!!
Hahahahahaaha I friggin love your comments. “She was doing her make up in the morning and someone invaded her country..” 🤣🤣🤣
I wonder if they have Tyra be so nice and fun and excited on purpose, to make her seem better that the other photographers, and to make the girls like her more.
Cause all the other shoots have people that are like, super mean, or Jay is mean and the photographer doesn't talk at all.
I absolutely love the earrings! Thanks for another great video.
please react to the death photoshoot of cycle 8 and the camel photoshoot in cycle 16 (Tyra said that if the photographer didn't like the model he can give any bad pic he wants, and they never say it's bad photography but rather "the model looks like crap" I really want your opinion on this)
She should also react to Cycle 3 retouch beauty photoshoot where they did Kelly dirty by *deliberately* choosing a bad photo of her then ridiculed her and placed her in the bottom 2 for "making excuses" or "playing the blame game".
She already reacted to the death shoot
@@grantmegan91 where ??!
